I'm not from Saba, nor have I ever been to (even though I would like to visit, since one of my grandfathers was originally from Saba, before moving to Curacao in his early 20's). However, reading the comments, it seems like people (mostly from Saba) might have taken the "nothing to do on the island" the wrong way.
Thing is, she's not a true Saban, like was already rightfully mentioned, since she came to live there as a young child (and maybe never felt really accepted by the communityover there?), which means she knew how (different) things are outside of Saba. This obviously gives her a completely different view from people who were born and raised in Saba and have not lived anywhere else. "You can't miss what you never had" applies here for actual Sabans. This girl, on the other hand has seen and experienced different ways of life in much larger countries with undoubtedly a lot more "things to do" for children/teenagers/young adults, before moving to Saba. So, we can't really blame her for feeling a certain way, since she was used to a different life and found herself (not by own choice) on the island. So, even though it might come over as if she's "throwing shades" at the island, I highly doubt that it was her intention. She was just giving her honest opinions (maybe too honest, like most Dutch lol).
I personally would like to also see an interview with a born-and-raised Saban who has moved to the Netherlands, but I also found it interesting hearing from Zakiya's "not a true Saban" perspective of the (tiny) island life and the move to the Netherlands.

saying saba has nothing to do and then going on to talk about how you interned multiple times with the conservation foundation and how that inspired you to want to be a scuba diver but also maybe pursue marine biology is a bit confusing to me. While saba may have its challenges there are definitely advantages to living in a small community that you would not gain living in Europe. I hope one day this young lady matures enough to discover that.

This girl is not a true Saban and she shouldn't have been interviewed. This is a disgrace to Saba and the Saba people. The problem is that she was an over privileged child especially at elementary school, where her father worked and still works. Her mother also has a good job at the tax office. She doesn't know how good she has had it. She doesn't have a clue what the 1920's is like, nothing like the easy breezy life she has lived and living.

Every one has a right to their own opinion but As a person that in my view, was secluded from the Saba people , should in no way try to speak on our behalf .

I was born and grew up on Saba until I was 16 years old , I can accept everyone has their own perception, during my time there the opportunities were probably even less , yet you have to forge your path, that was what it meant to be a Saban!
next time come interview me for a different view .
