Jake had a vision. It was his, the only real one he'd ever had, and he clung to it. It had always been the blues. Even back in the Rock Island City orphanage (that sweaty kid factory) Jake and Elwood were saved by the music. Actually, saved by a gray-haired janitor everybody called Curtis. He wore sinister midnight shades, a narrow black tie and a porkpie hat that he kept pushed back on his head. Curtis wrapped his waxy brown hands around his guitar neck and played the most dangerous blues this side of Robert Johnson. The nuns scorched the brothers’ days with holy threats and Curtis rescued them by night. Down in the coolness of his basement he taught them the blues and set in motion their mission: to live the healing message of music.
Silent Elwood never did put more than two sentences together, but all those lost words burned from his Special 20 blues harp. And Joliet tore that voice from some hidden darkness, twisting his chubby body, snarling at the heavens, a born sinner. They used the basement because it was secret and because the echo gave them a nice dirty sound: Howlin’ Wolf and Little Walker, slapping like a bad dream around the chilly room. And then one night, Jake brought in a gleaming E string he said came from Elmore James’ guitar. He held it tight and as it glowed in the bulb light, Jake sliced Elwood’s middle finger and then his own. Now the solo boys with soul in their blood were brothers. Jake and Elwood Blues … the Blues Brothers.

This may not the most famous Blues Bros song, but I'd argue it's their finest. Absolute perfection.
Along with jailhouse rock
Amen 😎👊👍
I would strongly agree. I've had this nagging in my mind for 3 week .....and my wife's too. 😂😂
The original by Taj Mahuls great too!!!
Totally agree 👍
They don't make masterpiece like this anymore
On the surface, people may think this is a joke band without being aware of the absolutely insane gathering of amazing talent it really was.
Boggles my mind to this day that this SNL bit transitioned into just a powerhouse band with chops to match any other band out there.
I have been saying best band ever assembled since SNL/movie.
Very True , I was 5 or 6 when this came out. I didn't find out till alot later the talent in this movie👍🏼
No doubt. When they do "Soul Man":, and Belushi iterates the interjection, "Play it, Steve," that really is Steve (Cropper)
That band was the "wrecking crew," but from Memphis instead of L.A.
Not to mention the rejuvenation of Blues music popularity. All the Blues musicians that had a piece in this movie experienced an increase in sales volume of existing CD’s
Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin & all the many others income increased.
That bass line. It’s always been a fantastic version of the song, but man, that bass line.
Agreed! Rest in peace Mr Duck Dunn, sadly missed. Absolutely brilliant
Learning this one on bass now! Literally pulled it up to practice along with it.
Love the train horn sound near the end
So good
My Dad showed me this movie when I was 7. It literally changed my life. This track especially gives me chills it's so good.
With all the swear words and everything? I wish I could find the tv edited version.
@@tomsriv they will learn it anyway. Might as well be from you so you can have the talk afterwards. This movie should be played in all music classes around the world. Young or old this movie should be appreciated.
@@joshgreen5399 hey Josh, how old are you? I only ask because my dad said the same thing to me when I was that old, I was a early 90s kid in single digits and I grew up on 70s bands from my mom and dad.
Nice one man. The best movie any parent could ever show a kid.
Dad was a trucker my uncle was a biker/union construction worker. I was well educated.
" The light was Yellow, sir. " . That line there started the adventurous journey.
For those who might be curios, the "Katy" was the Missouri-Kansas-Texas railroad, which became known as the Katy after its initials, M-K-T. The town of Katy, Texas took its name from the railroad.
i thought the katy was the girl he was cheating on, and when his girl caught him, she left him with a mule to ride.
I've always wondered but to lazy to Google meaning lol.. Thanks
Learned something tonight. I always knew the Katy was a railroad, but I didn't know that Katy, TX actually got its name from the railroad.
Tan Mahal wrote the song and Albert King has an awesome version as well!
One of my uncles lived out his days in Katy & was a B-17 flight engineer…
One of the handful of films I can watch over and over 100 times. Still be entertained!
Never gets old!.👍
Come on, seriously you guys, the food here is really expensive. The soup is fucking ten dollars. Come on let's go outside. I'll buy you a cup of coffee.
In a movie full of memorable scenes, that panning shot of that '74 Monaco ripping down Lake Street under the EL at over 110 mph NEVER gets old!
YOU ARE SO SO RIGHT, and sadly, others often don't understand that. My relative is a journalist who did a movie review when The Blues Brothers came out. She completely tore apart the film and brought our all of its weaknesses, but at the end of her review she told the readers that THEY HAD TO GO SEE THE FILM since it was so much fun and so remarkable and a great collection of incredible musical talents performing and just simply so silly and entertaining.
Sure would LOVE it if John Candy were still with us. Same with John Belushi.
And Back to the Future ( GREAT SCOTT)
This, Blazing Saddles, The Jerk, Airplane....I'm aging myself.
Our lady of blessed acceleration don't fail us now!
I just put this on to learn Duck Dunn's fabulously constructed bass line. It is a castle of sound. One of the most amazing bass lines ever.
Sweet bass line 💓. Pumps the blood through the system. Love yah, Angie! Good night and GOD bless.
“It is a castle of sound.”
That’s a beautiful sentence.
Angelaina Marie omg yessssss
Angelaina? Are still with us? Would be good if you responded I some way...
Listen to heartache tonight by the eagles, def influenced by this bass line.
Duck Dunn!! My Gawd, what a bass line!!
Would be really awesome to hear what Taj Mahal and others thought of the renditions of their music. I'm sure it would be subjective, but I'm sure responses would include "Thank you for adding to the song".
Donald Duck Dunn
Genius .. and I play blues bass
He was phenomenal.
The bass playing in this song is sublime.
Donald "Duck" Dunn.
Duck is a legend. Rock steady
This song is so freaking good. The Band is so on point. Donald Duck Dunn is straight thumping. The horns...the vocals...the harmonica...the rhythm..it's just there carrying you. The ebb and flow of every instrument, especially towards the end is just right.
Nice name ⭐
It’s a darn fun song to sing or play on the guitar
"Duck" Dunn a few years was Bassist in Claptons Band. Together with the other Tulsa men.
Scoot over goddammit 😹
Not enough people appreciate the bassline in this song. Pretty badass.
One of the best ever.
RIP to the bassist
@@AstrosElectronicsLab Donald Duck Dunn was a legend
@Fretless99 he was so cool af, he smoked a pipe while playing. He also rocked the biker beard
I still tell my wife I’m on a mission from God when she asks me why I do things.
:))))))
🤣🤣🤣🤣 Gat Damn Right!!!
reason she turns away from you is so her grin is hidden!!!
Love it ❤️
I salute you my man
This song has everything, killer bass, tight guitar, horn section, blues vocals and the harmonica. What else do you need?
A nun 😂
A mission... A mission from God
So good
A lighter! 😂
"She caught the KATY and left me a mule to ride" is one of the greatest lines ever recorded. It just oozes the blues.
I always had thought it was " she's complicated, left me a mule to ride" I was last week old when I found out. Heard it a million times. Still sounds like "complicated " to me. Lol
@mikec573 great lol. Now all i hear is "she's complicated" as well lol.
I think this is Belushi's greatest recorded vocal performance. He really knocks this one out the park.
Watching The Blues Brothers now 12-22-24. It's absolutely a PERFECT MOVIE. Thank you, Jake & Elwood...John & Dan❣
The finest collection of musicians ever assembled.
No argument there!
I agree, have you seen blues Brothers 2000? That's the only thing that beats it over 50 musicians playing together
Most movies do not have a very successful sequel but that is just solely based on opinion. My opinion is just as good if not better because of the lineup of musicians in from Eric Clapton to Boz scaggs to Bo Diddley BB King and not to mention blues Brothers band themselves with John Goodman
I grew up when they started out on Saturday night live and yes they were just a sketch band at that time but they got so popular so fast they actually went pro and produced a couple of albums and then John Belushi died I really like to see what kind of music they were done up to this day had that not
John Belushi died. I was 18 when that happened, the band formation I mean Belushi died I was 20.
RIP JB, let the blues live forever! Phenomenal talents!! All of you guys are missed sorely.
As if John wasn't already an unbelievable talent, that's Dan Akryode on the harp. They brought the best out in each other. Just phenomenal pair of talents.
Multi-talented. Both of them but especially belushi... he could of had a successful career singing bluesz
💯
And not only that but they claimed Belushi could have played division 1 football also
It's a harmonica mate.
@@robbdehora366 we call it harp in the states as well, i've heard it called a blues harp too..... mate.
True story. Me and my younger watched this movie and loved it. Next thing I know James is at the police auction buying a used cop car. You know cop motor cop suspensions etc. We sure did raise some hell with those cars. We could get one for about 400 bucks so if we screwed one up we just sent it to the junk yard and bought another. Damn that was fun. I still watch the movie every year around the holidays.😊😊😊
The Blues Brothers, redefined a blend of blues & soul, mixed with a touch of jazz and rock, Jake and Elwood are top drawer,on anyone's scale!!!
Reach back a little more, and you'll realize that the Blues Brothers were a tribute band to the Memphis Blues scene that spawned the likes of Aretha, and Otis Redding.
Any doubters of bass' importance need to hear this song
Yeah the whole band fizzes but without that bass, man.. it'd be nothing
John Belushi and John Candy will be missed! What great actors! Taken from us too soon! RIP guys!
Um, JB took himself
@@fernmann7 took himself from us ⭐
We're on a mission from *God*
*The band!*
Let's go Elwood
YES, I SEE THE LIGHT THE LIGHT
@@owenbestgaming3312 holy shitt Jesus Christ I see it I see the fucking light
Elwood: We'll be alright if we can just get back on the express way
Jake: DON'T LOOK LIKE NO EXPRESS WAY TO ME!
Ellwood: Don't yell at me...
Jake: The hell you want me to do Motorhead?
Rip John Belushi left us wat to young. The Blues Brothers were on the way to revive so many classics. Such a big loss to the music industry.
This is high level blues bass playing! Don't just listen to the notes and the groove. Listen to the timing, bass players. Bravo! RIP Duck!
Amen.
It’s all I hear every time I listen to them. They are all awesome but it’s the running of the bass that pulls my heart strings all every time.
Cropper and Murphy complement it perfectly!
We love you Donald Duck 🦆 Dunn RIP, we miss you everyday. You are the reason I am a bassist.
Duck Dunn one of the best.
Love Belushi's blue voice
M-K-T railroad. MISSOURI KANSAS TEXAS...Katy, Texas. Suburb of Houston just west on I-10.
One of my Midwest college friends ended up employed by that railroad right out of college.
Sadly we lost him a couple years later...to marriage. Miss you, Brett!
Used to see an MKT switcher engine working the tracks to Galveston in the mid-80's.
My Mother was dying in an old folks home One of Her last Wishes was to Watch the Blues Brothers Movie She passed in 2007
now there is a women...with impeccable musical taste ( ON A MISSION FROM GOD ) LOL
I have written it in my will, I want this played at my funeral.
You traded the Bluesmobile for this???
No, for a microphone.
A microphone?????? Okay, I can see that.
Fix the cigarette lighter.
You don’t like it?

@David McAninch thank you pal, the day I get out of prison my own brother picks me up in a police car
@Byron Gamblin Karen's line is from that movie too

New Oldsmobiles are in early this year!
Pier One
Disco pants and haircuts
Yea! Lots of space in this mall!
One of the tightest rhythm and blues bands I've ever heard. Awesome.
they had the ability to turn goat whiz into gasoline, ah tell yew whut
I met Steve Cropper at a BB King show years ago in Orlando. I had a chance to meet BB but the line was long and Steve was just hanging out off to the side by himself. What a humble and great guy, and such a legend. It was a true honor to shake his hand and share some words. 🤘🏻🎸
Elwood: “There's 106 miles to Chicago, we've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark out, and we're wearing sunglasses.” 🕶 🕶
Joliet Jake: “Hit it!”
Best line in movie history ;D
Got All That As A Tattoo 😛
I used to have this as my answerphone message.
Fix the cigarette lighter.
"Car's got a lot of pickup"
Greatest car chases and one of the best soundtracks in history!! Epic film 👍🏻
Love it. Pure magic. The bass line. The horns. Elwood on the harp. Magic.
Blues harp. Harmonica,
The horns and bass make the song.
One of the best movies ever!and one of the best soundtracks ever! absolutely love it!
My 7 year old loves the blues brothers. Makes ya feel like ya did something right.
Johns perfect singing, wonderful tone, Dan’s harmonious mouth organ, wow the band sheer perfection, still listening since released in 1980 xxxx
R.I.P each and everyone xxxx
Listen to the original class xxxx xxxx 😎😎
0:05 John Belushi
0:11 Dan Aykroyd
0:16 The Blues Brothers
Underrated comment!!
Perfection.. and arguably one of the best background bands ever assembled.
The first time I watched this movie was in a hotel room in Colorado in 1993 with my grandma. We turned it on midway through and my grandma was laughing out loud at the car chase chaos. Later that summer when I was home in STL I was delighted to see that KPLR 11 was going to be airing it. I fired up the VCR, got an old Maxell tape that had something less desirable on it, and recorded the edited version. For years it was the only way I watched the film. It’s also how I introduced it to all of my friends.
Wish I could watch it with my grandmother again. Or all of my friends as an elementary school student….. What a special film.
That bass playing by the one and only Duck Dunn is a masterclass !!! So smooth and sweet , while laying it down fat and thick!!! What a groove!! You still live on my brother!!!!!!!
Literally the perfect intro song to the movie to introduce both John and Dan!
Such a ln infectious bass line by Duck Dunn, it really drives the entire song. It's really hard to imagine it with any other melody underneath.
When I first heard this song (and saw the Blues Brothers) was in the made-for-TV version in the early 80s, which was the only version (being pre-teen) my parents would let us watch. For the longest time I thought he was saying, “She got the Caddy, left me a mule to ride.” 😂. I also didn’t know until much later it was Jim singing it.
One The Blues Brothers stand out tunes. This displays the true tenacity and conviction of Belushi's voice. A true classic for the lover of this underated genere
The band in the Blues Brothers movie was the absolute top musicians for each instrument at that time. They never played together again after the movie. I guess a public appearance would have cost in the six figures for that kind of talent.
Man the bass line on this piece ..
Donald Duck Dunn.
Now you know, this is important.
That is exactly why i love this song
One of the best music based movies ever made. An incredible array of both musical and comedic talent.
One of the finest songs ever recorded!
Jak tylko słyszę ten utwór uśmiech pojawia się natychmiast A dzień nie jest taki zły 👍👍👍
My late grandmother loved the blues brothers movies & soundtrack albums
Best intro song, absolutely legendary movie, and to put a bad ass bridge jump in that early was brilliant.
One of my favorite movies EVER!!! John Belushi was a monster talent. He is missed tremendously. Love Dan Aykroyd too!
This and Rocky Horror kept hundreds of independent cinemas alive for a decade.
I will, one day, get a ‘74 Monaco blues mobile replica and cruise to this song
mean_sbc86 amen!
Good luck, they are a pretty hard car to find, in any condition...
Since I'm in the Chicago area, I'd do the same and drift it on lower wacker with my friend while both wearing fedoras and sunglasses

As Chicago as these guys were it still brings me home to Detroit when I hear this song.

Awesome and timeless... rip john belushi and massive gratitude to mr dan ackroyd !!!
The best so far!! the bass is amazing
I was lucky enough to see the blues brothers live in Dallas back in 1981, Paul Shaffer was the musical director for the band... needless to say it was a great show!
Lucky Man! :)
Paul Shaffer from the 70's
cool guy.
This movie got passed down to me by my grandparents, and it’s still my favorite movie of all time. I’ve watched it about 5(?) times, and both me and my best friend love it.
My aunt showed it to me when I was about 12 maybe 14 I loved the Music. Im in my twenties now and watched it again last night, ending is always cheesy with the car jumps but w/e great movie.
That Night Train is a mean wine btw
In Memory of the past members of the Blues Brothers band and cast members in both 1981 and 1998. God bless the surviving members and may they continue their Mission from God.
What kind of music do you boys play?
We play both kinds: Country, AND Western
Wrong!
Misquoth.
Went to a bar on the prairies of Alberta, that had a guitar and a microphone. Anyone could pick up the guitar and play and sing, as long as it was one of the two kinds of music, country or western.
You're gonna look pretty funny tryin' to eat corn on the cob with no FUCKEN TEETH
Rawhide on A!
This was the first song I listened to after leaving my job of 9 years.
Outstanding.
Congratulations.
Madlad
After all these years...
I had the subtitles on when I watched "The Blues Bros." last week and saw that Belushi was singing "She caught the K-T"
Up until I read that, I had thought that he was singing "Smooth talkin' Katie"
That bass is incredible 😍
I listen to each Blues Brothers song 8-10 times just to focus on a single member each time. It takes a while but it's worth it.
Love the blues ....Lived in Chicago all my life but never went to The House of Blues ....SAD! I been a Mother with 2 girls and the last one is almost 18 so I’ll grab my purse and head downtown....I’m starting to cry ....Isn’t LIFE GRAND ! Such a Great movie! GOD BLESS!
i can't belive that new pop songs are more popular than this music genius.
I doubt anyone will be listening to that music in 40 years.....
A Chicago classic. This city might have it's problems but it's a great city where legends are from.
This music, and the whole Blues genre feeds my soul better than any bar none. Thank God
absolutely love this song. The Blues Brothers are class, we need more bands like this nowadays.
I love Duck Dunn's bassline. Awesome!
One of the best!
That was the first Blues Track ive ever heard. A big Salute to the Blues Brothers Band, of course Dan and John, John Landis.
This Movie made me love the Blues.
Such a talented Band. Best Movie ever made. So many Golden and unforgettable Moments.
This is a classic that should not have ever had a sequel.
Please don't say that...
I'd like to pretend that never happened 😕
The sequel was the first one I saw! I never even knew there was an 80s one till later 😂
Sequel should have been made much sooner than it was!
Bull! There is MUCH MORE Blues talent assembled in the Gator Boys than the Blues Brothers ever had.
Yep, Blues Brothers 2000 sucked!!!
Wow the late John Belushi sang this wow so niceee he has a smooth Jazz/Blues Tone in his music, Rest In Peace Brother🎸🎼🌹🍻
It's what you listen in the car to when taking a drive from Joliet to the 95th St bridge on the Calumet river.
Hooked the first time I heard them. Not enough songs feature a horn section. Saw them in seventh grade, wore the tour t-shirt so much you could see through it by the time I hit high school! This song and "B Movie Boxcar Blues" are 2 of my karaoke go-tos. I dig turning people on to quality rythm and blues. That's Jake and Elwood's (John and Dan's) legacy, bringing this great music to the masses.
I absolutely LOVE their take on this song.
Yeah. Love Taj Mahal but this is my favorite:)
They improved the song. The intro is fantastic
They play this track in heaven
Oh yeah!
Classic Music ,Sweet Suits , Great Movie
Never gets old.
FINALLY !! Justice for this fabulous movie, putting the WHOLE SOUNDTRACK TOGETHER, IN ORDER !! YEEHAWWW
For me this movie have the best soundtrack of all time i mean Cab Calloway, Aretha Frankling, Ray Charles, James Brown, John Lee Hooker and all the amazing crew it's just the best and actually this movie brings me into music at the age of 10 yrs probably the best thing my dad did was pick this in Blockbuster so thanks dad wherever you are!
They got Matt "Guitar" Murphy back in the band!
i love the blues brothers
Been listening to this since the film came out and just gets better and better every time
I had a flat, an old friend came in from out of time, there was a fire, an earthquake, locust, it wasn't my fault I swear to God.
"Let's go."

Hands down my favorite Blues Brothers song.
Aspiring bass players... hell, even 90% of seasoned bass players....take notes! This is how it's Donald F'ing Dunn!
Such an awesome playing style :)
its all about keeping the rhythm but not getting stuck in it
Amen
It's hard as hell, masterpiece of course
@@leogold75 Yes, a masterpiece in its entirety, but quite learnable note by note. Great stuff. Definitely inspired by James Jamerson, as well.

Damn, you beat me to it by ten months.
love that line!
Best line of the movie. Stiff competition, but that's the top.
