  • 4K ASMR walk through Kyoto's Kitano Tenmangu Shrine's plum garden. Enjoy the natural ambience of the walk, or turn on closed captioning to get guided explanation to the garden and the shrine's background.
This garden is only open a few weeks a year when the plum trees are blossoming.
    【What is "Nihon Walkaru"?】
Nihon Walkaru brings you ASMR walks through places in Japan, with optional descriptions of what you’re seeing. Turn on the closed captioning to get a description of what you’re seeing, or turn them off to just enjoy the ambience.
    "Nihon" means "Japan" in Japanese.
"Walkaru" is a mash up of the English word "walk" and the Japanese word "wakaru", which is "to understand" or "to know."
So Nihon Walkaru roughly means to know Japan through walks.

I'm glad you enjoyed the walk!
I put the commentary in the closed caption so viewers have the option to turn it off and just enjoy the plum blossoms. I may change that depending on feedback from viewers.

Hi johnpaul, thank you for watching. I'm glad you enjoyed the video.
Sugawara no Michizane's story is a little bit sad, but I like it. It's a very Japanese story, where you have someone who is talented and good at what they do, who despite that still doesn't have a happy ending. But people today still look up to them even though they didn't have a happily ever after ending. It reminds me that even though sometimes things don't work out my way, maybe that isn't the most important part.

There were so many plum trees in this garden, and even more in some other parts of the shrine that I wasn't able to film.

I came from Lemi. Your collaboration was really a great one. I enjoyed it to the max. Also this video is Kirei. I did wish I had the same Japanese talent as you. I am traveling in October to Japan for 2 weeks. Will be visiting Sendai also. But my Japanese is and still is basic. Also it is a little too late to get it up but I try. Beautiful video. I was in Kyoto in 2018 and enjoyed it very much. Luckily we went to more places then only the touristic ones. Wow Edited to add. I just put on the commentary and this is a MUST reading. Wow Thank you.

Hi Pagroove - welcome! I'm glad you enjoyed the video with Lemi From Japan.
Japanese takes a lot of time and patience to learn. I've been studying for over 30 years, so don't give up! (Most people take less time - I'm a little bit slow, I'm afraid.) Every bit you learn is helpful, and people in Japan really appreciate when non-Japanese people say even one word in Japanese. Ganbatte kudasai!
October is a great time to travel in Japan. I hope you enjoy your time in Sendai - it's a very pretty, laid back place.

Watched in replay, what are the crystal ornament attached to the trees, they look functional in design ?, kudos to the gardener, your style seems similar to Seoul Waker - very good; i have read that the Tori Gates (not all) are painted to specific colors, red, shades of earth tones, blue etc, what do the colors represent ? am courious, bery good camera technique, thank you 🌿🎦👍👍🙏🏼🙏🏼🫶🏼

The ornaments on the trees are lanterns that hold candles. At night they light the candles so visitors can see the plum blossoms by candle light. Unfortunately I wasn't able to see that, or film it. :(
Torii gates come in a lot of different colors, though most of the time they're vermillion (a very bright orange), plain wood, metal or stone. Some shrines will have their torii painted different colors related to the shrine - for example, Kogane Shrine in Gifu has a gold painted torii, since the shrine's name includes the character for gold 金. For the torii that aren't vermillion or a natural color why the torii is a different color depends on each shrine.
