I cannot STRESS this enough for those planning a Japan trip with plans to stay/go to Kyoto. All of the iconic temples and places Allan put here WILL be SUPER CROWDED if you go during a normal time like 11:00 AM - 6:00 PM. So if you want to have the temples and locations more to yourself, do your self the favor and GET up early af every morning when doing iconic Kyoto attractions. The crowds in Kyoto are not to be under estimated and they will kind of drain you as you traverse the beautiful city that Kyoto is. Kyoto's public transport wasn't designed with the mass groups of tourists it gets in mind like Tokyo's super dense city a large public transport was built up over the years. Kyoto just became a hot spot in the past 10-15 years so the rapid public transport to fit hundreds of people into trains can be lacking in some areas. The buses can have large crowds to just get on the bus, I saw this when there last December. Kyoto is a beautiful city and is a must stop on anyone's Japan trip but is also VERY crowded all the time. So when you do go to Kyoto I stress that getting up early (like 5-7AM) is the best and most fun way to see Kyoto.
Having watched 100's of UA-cam videos on Kyoto, this is the most thorough and enjoyable video I've seen. I love that you don't rush through everything, allowing me plenty of time to take notes. Great job, Allan!
I've always wanted to visit Kyoto more than anywhere else in Japan, ever since I read 'A Year in Japan' by Kate Williamson. It's a book of incredibly beautiful watercolors of the city and culture. I highly recommend it 🧡
This video is amazing! It's one of the very few that actually deserve to be called a guide. Very informative! I wish I had seen this before I went there last year and found a lot of that for myself. If I had known these things earlier my trip would have been much less messy and I might have been able to see more of this beautiful city.
Thank you so much for all your travel videos. You have no idea how helpful they have been. I did an Iceland trip following your videos and I am now planning a trip to Japan heeding your suggestions. Your videos are stunning and succinct. No annoying chit chats, no wobbly vlogs. Just loaded with information. Thank you and please keep at the great work!!!
I rarely comment on youtube videos. Maybe once every two years. This is the quality content that I look for but never find. Thank you! Edit: subscribed, and forwarded to a few others.
I cannot thank you enough for all your amazing videos, with mind-blowing photos! You have a great talent and the way you cover everything, from planning to visiting, the pros and cons, the budget/funds to allocate, and so on, it's very commendable! You have given me the determination to forget about my apprehension and visit my favourite countries. Hopefully, soon enough, I'll be able to tick off all the places on my bucket list. Meanwhile, I'll just binge watch your videos and dream of lands far far away from where I am. P.S. If you could visit Scotland, especially the Isle of Skye, and cover everything that's important to note, I'd be very grateful. Thanks! Keep up the excellent work!
Your 2019 Japan video motivated me to visit Japan. I renewed my passport January of 2020 then covid hit. Now after 4 years I went with my brother. Kyoto was by far our favorite city! The best people and greatest memories created there. We vowed to return, same as you said no matter our itinerary!
BTW you can literally walk (if you want to have a walking day from around 9:00 to 22:00) there are plenty of food stalls in between the stops) from Nishiki Market to Fushimi and still end in pontocho. So first Nishiki Market - Pass the baton kyoto - Kagin yoshifusa - Yasaka shrine - Hanamikoji street - Yasui Kompira-gū Shrine - Ninen zaka path - Hokan ji Temple - Sannenzaka - Kiyomizu Dera - Fushimi Inari-taisha - pontocho. for me it looks like a fun trip, and if im going to go then I will walk this path.
This was so helpful! There are so many videos on Kyoto that it’s overwhelming, but this was incredibly pleasant to watch and I love the specific food recommendations in addition to the overall spots. Can’t wait to visit soon
My family's hometown and the place where I grew up (or spent the early years of my childhood) is in Kyoto. Thanks for providing necessary info's for those who want to visit the city.
First video I’ve seen of yours. Amazing! Super informative, easy to follow, and calming. Beautiful video and imagery. Thank you! Can’t wait to explore Kyoto.
Thank you so much for your amazing content Allan. This is far and away my favorite travel channel on UA-cam, and your videos are so informative and helpful. I’m planning a trip to Japan for me and my friends, and your videos are what inspired me to be so determined to visit Japan, so again thank you!
We are just about beginning the mid point of our Kyoto trip. Thank you so much for the wonderful preview!! The city is so overwhelming, awesome to get insider tips.
Sounds like the perfect place for me to visit. I always travel light, enjoy just looking at architecture, always up at 6am on all my vacations so pretty sure I’ll avoid the crowds, eat all day, love smaller cities and am content with doing nothing ❤
Your video really brings back the memory of me and wife when we visited Japan, through your video I felt the connection between your vlog and our trip, we hope one day when the pandemic is over we’ll visit again to explore places that we missed. Thanks Allan.
I loved bamboo forest and Arashiyama recommendation a lot, the temple was so peaceful and I captured peaceful meditation video there and did a skethbook by the trees on the little benches ❤ thank you for making this amazing guide video 🥹🎞️🍓🌸🐈
This is a really great guide of Kyoto Allan! you really made us want to go back to Kyoto again, love every shots and yes we should visit Nishiki Market next time, remind us of the Shinsaibashisuji in Osaka, and ohhh that matcha shave ice, looks super refreshing! love the leaves color, so beautiful. Pontocho, ok noted! your reaction on Kobe beef says it all, we need to try, we're foodies and love to eat and explore local foods! seems like we need to spend at least 3 days in Kyoto next time since we have kids which usually need more times amount to explore haha. thanks for all this info!
thank you, this year in late november will be my first trip to japan, and i chose autumn is the best view for me, and your video help to me to decide where to go, and your explanation very clearly to me
This is my first of your videos. I am now subscribed because your videos are amazing. The information, the stunning photographs and the subtle and complimentary music was stellar. We are heading to Kyoto Nov 12-18 for the first time. Now even more excited.
You captured the spirit of kyoto with your beautiful cinematography. I was there last year, and I cannot wait to go back. I have to say, I love your photo style. I have a Sony mirrorless camera as well, and I love taking videos. I'm hoping to get a gimbal in the near future for my travels. Though I'm sure the editing has alot to do with the final look. I'd love to see your photo/video process!
This video was my first introduction to your channel and I immediately subscribed. Great video and narration. Very informative, and I hope to visit Kyoto one day. Arigatougozaimasu 👍🇯🇵

Thank you so much for your video. It's really helpful for the first-timers. Also, your video style is so professional that it felt like a documentary, with beautiful bgm and composing.
Please share more on Kyoto's hidden gems, rather than the most touristic spots. Would like to be more mindful of my impact as a tourist and hope to give more attention to landmarks and spots that are not as well-known. Thank you!
