Pow...right in the kisser!!! Marty, I have been subscribed for months now and glad I am . You provide good fun and awesome hifi reviews and information here!! I'll be here as long as you keep doing it!!! Cheers from the States!
Nice job the pioneer was not that far off the leaks sound, you should try and get hold of a sansui 331 or 441 receiver, I have both and they sound fantastic. I bet you would not hear any difference between the leak or Sansui's, keep up the excellent work.
I agree with your conclusion. Leak is more open and detailed a bit more separation. Pioneer had more of a 'vintage' sound. A bit less precise and open, with some bass emphasis, which gives an impression of 'warmth'. Both were very listenable.
They sound almost identical, I would add 1 point to Leak for slightly more pronounced high frequencies, and 2 points to Pioneer for appearance. So I would keep Pioneer.
It's a master piece. Looks very nice. I remember a Pioneer equipment mounted in a tower. It looks impressive and sounds really clear. Thanks for shearing 👍🏼 Saludos 🤙
Until recently many snubbed audio gear more than 10 years old, now many realise just how good some (not all) vintage audio is, from amps to speakers to turntables, mini disc cd, tape and cd . Some older speakers 40-50 years old leave some present day speakers sounding pretty grim . Like most things it's knowing your stuff, I'm no boffin but I do read a lot and have used many older audio units, and there are some real diamond buys out there . New gear has to be honest better everything, however that does not equate to better sound, many audio companies have become so obsessed with measuring equipment, they forget music needs soul, a very big pointer is how many amplifiers omit tone controls.. If you get vintage equipment serviced and repaired chances are it will last another 20-30 years . (Some older technics have parts shortages) I use Technics SU-A8 Technics SE-A7 Pre and PowerAmp and it's a superb unit ..
I agree about older speakers. I have a Delcoid satellite/sub setup. In 1979, they were about $2000 for the set. Today maybe $7000. Price aside, they're some of the best sounding speakers I've ever heard. I love MBL speakers but I still prefer the Delcoids. Even my amp and preamp are old. I have a GAS Ampzilla and a matching Thoebe preamp. Both are over 40 yrs old and sound fantastic.
Nice video, as usual. I have one exactly like this in my bedroom (also have 2 more vintage Pioneers, the monster SX 950 and the SX 690). Still prefer my new Nad 3050 LE but i like very much this litlle Pioneer 520. I love vintage gear that's why i have 7 vintage amps or receivers in my colection (my prefered was a Sansui and a Revox, but still love the 3 Pioneers). Keep going with your ansome videos. Cheers from Portugal
nice of you to mention analytics, i thought i was subscribed but wasn't, but am now wonderful videos, down to earth guy not prancing around being pretentious :)
OK, nice channel, very nice reviews, with very "utilitarian" products, nothing hi-end with stratospheric prices. I really like watching your videos, simplicity and humility, why not? subscribed channel. Como dizemos em Portugal: Um grande abraço (As we say in Portugal: a big hug)...sorry if my English isn´t the best. Until the next video.
I have 2 amps a single ended valve which I love and a sansui au 101 recapped the valve is very good but the vintage sansui is a serious piece of kit considering its50 years old I use it at night because of the loudness button I have heard the leak it's a very nice amp
Well, it seems I belong to the 10 percent that subscribed to your channel, so, it resembles the good old sentence from the Bible, saying: '...many are invited, but few are chosen...' As for the gear, I have three CD players, two of them are by Pioneer, the third one is Denon. I must have been Japanese in my previous life...

I liked it better when Marty hit us with his fists :) Cartoon Marty hits uncertainly.
Older hifi still has a place in homes today grate fore budget listening 😊
Less cheddar for sure

Amazing how a low end Pioneer 50 quid amp is is holding well against a new 1000 quid Leak amp on this listening test.
I was surprised too, especially after 40 years!
I thought the Pioeer had more punch. It may be 1970's ears but I prefered it.
They sound almost identical, I would add 1 point to Leak for slightly more pronounced high frequencies, and 2 points to Pioneer for appearance. So I would keep Pioneer.
Nice. I'd take that Pioneer over the Leak any day! 💯

The pioneer hands down sounds better. I was surprised by that honestly. 🎉😊
I've got an 80s marantz amp, Denon cassette deck, ruark templers in the loft a Sony st tuner es in the garage, just can't part with them.
Leak is better and from blind I got it right still sounds good 👍
I remember MS stands for, music search.
Ah cool, thanks
