Awesome Truck and Story! My Grandfather left me a 1965 Chevy Impala convertible when I was in my mid 20s but unfortunately I was not able to afford the up keep and stewardship of owning the car at the time. Luckily in a similar situation My Grandpa's nephew, my Moms 1st cousin offered to buy it from me and also said he would give me 1st option if he ever sold it to buy it back so it could stay in the Family if at all possible.
Yup I got my grandfathers 1988 Grand Marquis LS which I got to use during Community College years then it went to my parents as a vehicle they could use when they came back State side from overseas. Then I got it back after being married in 2004 but in 2007 moved to Colorado from MI so I didn't want to haul it out here (wish I would have) and gave it back to my parents who bought a place in TN and my mother was back State side full time so drove it down there and they used it for years and ask me if they could sell it to a neighbor as he NEEDED a car. I think $500 to help him out. I kinda wish I would have said no, power antenna, seats all worked. It was very nice as my Grand Father kept it up...any rust he take it in and pay to have it fixed and painted. Not many people do that today. He always owned Grand Marquis, it was what he liked and could pay cash for (a Generation where they didn't take loans). I miss him and I miss the vehicle. I had a Limited Grand Cherokee, my daughter 4 at the time still remembers it because it had a TV in the back...LOL I'm surprised she remembers it, for her she will always remember that like I remember my Grand Father in his Grand Marquis.
Cool truck. Back in 80s when I was a kid my grandparents had a black '85 loaded XLT, Lariat or whatever the top of the line was ext cab. It even had a cellphone. Business was good for them at that time.:) Good 80s memories.
Absolutely beautiful rig. My very first vehicle was a 1982 F150, reg cab short bed, with the 300 six and a 4 speed manual, its maroon with the same red color interior. I got it for $1000 in 2004 as a beat to hell rusty 22 year old Iowa truck. Now days it is now an even more beat to hell 38 year old Iowa truck, its mostly been used as my mud truck and scrap hauler for the last 15ish years. Damn thing just refuses to die. Its 4 years older then me and it'll probably still be running when I'm long gone.

I had a 82' F150with the 300 six and it was THE most reliable vehicle I've ever owned. In 13 years and 220000 miles the factory starter went at 165000 miles,, exhaust manifold at 180000, and two or three carburetor rebuilds and two stuck open thermostats, and a total front end rebuild at 140000,,,THAT'S IT ! Sold it at 220000 miles in late 1995 and the smog pump, alternator and voltage regulator, A/C and total hvac system, water pump, fuel pump, power steering system all original,,, amazing..

great job, your uncle would be proud. I’m a Chevy girl w/an all stock original 87SS ElCamino,5.0, 350-v8;180 hp,original paint BUT still appreciate the heart & hard work it takes to maintain a real truck vs an overpriced oversized matchbox
My brother had a 1988 gmc 2500 for 30 years and he had over 600,000 miles on it got junked due heavy rusting on the underside courtesy of Illinois and Wisconsin winters and the use of road salt
Yes, he did the artwork on the truck. talked to him in 2015 when my parents were selling their house and he was representing the buyers. It was a small world.
I just picked up an '83 with the 302...75,000 miles (119,000 km), I'm the second owner...truck was parked for the last 10-12 years in a garage. I got it running....fixing a few things... I have all original doc's including the bill of sale from the dealer in 1983. I used to have an '82 with the 300 six.
Miss my 89 with the straight 6. One of if not the best engine ford built. Has timing gears!! The 89 had electronic fuel injection. Around 200 horse but more torque and it was low end torque. Engine ran perfect but the body and chassis succumbed to 23 New England winters
Love that truck and that body style I have a 1980 ford f100 ranger with a 302 4 speed manual it's also a rare color combo blue and gold it use to be my great grandpas truck and it was passed down to me for my first car after for sitting for 10 years in the elements and it cranked right up with just a new gas tank and fuel pump it's been running like a dream ever since they don't make em like they use to
I love all the comments. I had an 87 Toyota pickup with a 4 on the floor, 22r carbureted 4 cyl engine. Bought it for $3,600 drove it for eight years. Never replaced clutch or brakes. It went through mufflers and tail pipes. Replaced slave cylinder only in eight years and changed the oil in my driveway. Castro’s 10-30 all year round every 3k. That’s it. Thing was awesome and I kinda beat on it. Sold it for $2,000 . Cost of ownership was next to nothing. Now I got a 2016 Tacoma trd off road all loaded up. Cost me $32,000. It’s super efficient. Lotta things that can go wrong though. I’d take the 87 over my 16 all day. That’s just me.
Excellent video, thanks for sharing. I really enjoyed seeing this beautiful truck and am glad you now have it. This video and the story made my day. Your uncle sounded like a cool guy.
I bought the same truck in 84 and charcoal grey. It went a little over a hundred thousand with excellent care but a wrist pin decided to let loose too far from home so goodby and on to the next... I feel you on the It advances/LOL

Not this aluminum with all this horsepower but u really can’t take it 4wheelin with a $80,000 price tag and a thin shell. That’s just not right
I love these trucks. Ive had a 72 f250 and an 81 f150 and wish i still had both of them. the 72 had 360 ford engine and a dump bed that i took off and put a 50''s international 8ft stepside bed on. The 81 had the 300 straight six. It was a short bed with 98,000 original miles. It was very clean for a truck from new england. Only paid 800 for it and 400 for the 72..
For an older truck it's clean and well maintained. Dude, I was gonna name my truck "BIG RED".I have a 2009 red supercrew f150 and it's big so I thought that name was fitting.i like the old bug shields too good spot for the name. Keep on truckin'!
Years ago, I purchased a 96 F150 XL for $1000 because it had brand new tires. It has the 4.9 and a 5 speed. Nastiest interior I've ever seen: passenger dash appeared to have syrupy vestiges of a spilled soda, the floor and underneath the seat was littered with remnants of fast food restaurant paraphernalia, the vinyl floor so dirty it probably didn't remember what clean was...but for years, I've slowly been working on it. Drivetrain is tip-top. The engine was somehow running even though none of the spark plugs were tight; in fact, one of them was so loose I could spin it with my fingers. The rotor and distributor cap so worn, I actually would've thought it wasn't making contact. But still, it ran (not great, mind you). Tell you what, with a new cap and rotor and plugs, it started _right_ away and ran strong. I've rebuilt the front suspension (minus shocks) and have spent many countless hours sanding and removing old paint to make room for what is so far, an epoxy primer base. That is where it stands, along with a stripped interior. Can't wait for it to be done, not only so I can drive it, but to relish in the pride that comes with enjoying the fruits of your labor.
Ford still makes the best full size 1/2 ton truck in my opinion but these were built to last if you took care of them. Especially the 300 I6 I had a 1989 and I still regret selling it to this day. Chevy/GMC was the same back in the day but I can’t say that they still are as good. I’m currently driving a 2017 F-150 crew cab FX4 with 3.5L Ecoboost. Absolutely love it and plan on driving it until it dies. I also have a 2003 Ford F-250 Super Duty as my plow rig. I plan on fixing it up and improving it. I really love the 1999-2003 Super Duty trucks. Someday when I finally finish all the work I need to do I might make a video and send it in to Dude I Love My Ride Home edition.
My dad had an 83 f150 with a in-line 6 and 3 in the tree. I remember when he first got it in the spring of 83. He had “Rusty Jones” undercoating put on it. It got wrecked sitting in front of the house because some kid was running from the police and he crashed a stolen car into my dads truck in 1996.
Get all your stuff form Clifford. They are all balanced together. Webber carb, intake, cam and headders is all you need to double your power. I have 3 Ford 300's. Awesome truck!
I think that is the plan. The truck runs so good right now, I don't really need the extra power, but it would be nice. Also it is underwhelming looking under the hood. At a car show it would be cool to have an inline six with some neat upgrades to show off.
@@bigredauto6774 I agree. Do what you need when you need it. On my 95 300ci I just run the headders and a dual exhaust. It really helps the poor thing breathe and bumps the power, sound, and mileage! At car shows you gotta have the right sound. and the 300 sounds mean uncorked!
I had a Ford shorty van with 300 6 and a 1 barrel carb. The next year it was a 300 6 with electrics and that made a nice change but my van had the carb. Love the 300 6 way better then 302 or the small v8 around that size.
I have an 82 F100. thing has the same engine, 3 speed manual, no radio nor speakers, manual locks, manual windows, and the typical ford truck rust spots. the truck still needs a lotta TLC but I'll get it to look this good eventually.
"It doesn't accelerate as much as it advances." Reminds me of my great grandfather's '87 Ram-150 shortbed. Last year of the 225 slant 6 had 84 horsepower factory. I would draft semis on the interstate, then when I pulled out to pass the wind hit it like a brick wall!!! Slow as ot was it didn't know how to quit. Saw my grandfather drive it up the ridge to his house with a '77 F-150 on a two axle trailer and a 460 ties down in the bed!
Cowboy Car Crushing in Dallas Texas can bust it down for you. He busts down a lot of old trucks in his videos. They are not nice like this truck though. 1983 were some great times!
Great truck! Great story! However “Wild Man Uncle Gordy” buying a truck as nice as that, with only that 300/6? When the options list for that truck included more than one V8!
Dude I had a red regular cab longbed 4x4 very similar after high school. It had most of the same JC Whitney custom parts. Old guy had it since new and kept it covered. I even waxed the inside of the bed cause it never hauled anything.
Great story. Great truck. Those old Ford 300 6's are arguably one of Ford's most durable.
They sure are brother infact much more durable than any EcoBoost engine.
Have an 86 4.9 runs like a champ

It's from Top Gear.
@@rhull3939You are probably right. I have been saying it about this truck for so long I forgot where I came up with it LOL Love Top Gear!

That’s amazing! God bless your uncle and always keep it just that way! My dad redid his dads 74 Chevy c20 heavy boy.
That's one beautiful clean old Ford brother.
Love it. What a great truck and your uncle would be proud.
"It doesn't accelerate as much as it advances."
Reminds me of my great grandfather's '87 Ram-150 shortbed.
Wow these are super rare you never see these trucks on the road any more.
My grandad has a 1984 F-350 with a 6.9 diesel. Still runs like the day he bought it.
long live old trucks
Love the old split rear windows. Wasn't real practical but sure looks good.
Nice story. I do like the strait up bug screens back then.
I love this body style of Ford trucks! This truck is beautiful!
Makes me want to drive around blasting ZZ Top’s eliminator
That ford 300 is a bulletproof motor, I have a 95 f150 and that original motor has 403k miles and still runs great
Cowboy Car Crushing in Dallas Texas can bust it down for you. He busts down a lot of old trucks in his videos. They are not nice like this truck though. 1983 were some great times!
A Six was rare on Super Cabs. This is a neat truck! Built Ford Tough! 😊😊
Great truck! Great story! However “Wild Man Uncle Gordy” buying a truck as nice as that, with only that 300/6? When the options list for that truck included more than one V8!
Inline 6 is a smooth reliable motor though.
92 horsepower wild mannnnnn
This is also visual proof how big and relatively luxurious half-ton trucks have become.
Beautiful Truck Man !
I have a van from the 80’s. I wouldn’t trade it for anything. Bought it from the original owner and the inside had been converted.
Dude I had a red regular cab longbed 4x4 very similar after high school. It had most of the same JC Whitney custom parts. Old guy had it since new and kept it covered. I even waxed the inside of the bed cause it never hauled anything.
My 84 just got it's 300 rebuilt same as this truck just gloss black, my 87 f250 300 is stock no rebuild and 854K miles
This is an MN truck! Maybe I’ll have to get my 86 and 88 fords uploaded.
Nice truck! I love that body style.
I have a pretty beat up 1985 Ford F-250 with a big block 460 and it sure goes
Now THAT is fuggin mint.
Yeah!. Love the sound of a split six!
One of the best motors made along with 7.3 idi non turbo
Fricken awesome!
These bull noses are beginning to raise their heads as a heavily appreciated body style....not as many out there as others too.
Nice Truck!
What a great story, and, of course, a great truck.
