Thank you so much for this video. After a lot of research in Honda forums and UA-cam, and wanting to avoid a tow and a trip to the dealership at all costs, I first went and visited with a full service locksmith. They told me if I could get the ignition lock out of the vehicle and bring it in, they could remove the broken pins, as that Is what I was thinking the issue was. I did not want to buy a while new ignition lock as I did not waamt to deal with reprogramming the key, these immobilizers will drive you insane. Anyway took the ignition lock in, a day later they said it was ready to go.They removed the broken pins that were not allowing the key to turn. The pins did not have to be reolaced, they are just there for added security. I got to keep my same key. Reinstalled the ignition lock and my car now works! What could have possibly been $1000 with a tow and a trip to the Honda dealership ended up only costing me $53.00. I could not be any happier! One thing I'll added, if you need to start shaking the wheel to get your ignition to turn, DO NOT TAKE OUT THE KEY! if to leave the key in the ignition you will not have an issue, only once you remove it and try to restart. Make sure you leave the key in until you are at your garage, locksmith, parking lot, etc so you don't need to get a tow. Without.the key turned forward, your steering wheel is locked, you cannot just pull the vehicle with a chain. Thanks so much for this video!

Great video. Worked perfectly on my 2002 Honda accord. I was a little confused about the new key. In my case, the key that came with the new switch was a dumb key (no chip) and couldn't be programmed. The Honda dealer was able to take the requirements, programming and tooth patten, from the original key and the new ignition key and make a key that worked for 37.28. Thanks.

First of all. Thanks for the vid! Any time I can save $$ on car repair, I'm all for it.
Point: at 1:55-ish he says heavy keys damage the lock. There's no actual evidence for this and he is speculating. As a matter of fact, I had an ignition cylinder go bad on an '04 and use a solo key - no heavy key-chain ever attached to it. Evidence leans more toward the cylinders themselves have a shelf life because of the number of bad ones that show up after 8-12 years.

Great video. I have a 04 honda civic the problem I'm having is when I turn the key to the on position the lights on my dash are not coming on so I'm wondering if that could be my ignition module or the harness that connects to the fuse box really would appreciate information

Thats cool, but now that key wont work the doors. Can you use the old key and have the new cylinder rekeyed to the old key so that one key works the whole car?
