Being my best friend from grade school up thru high-school was Filipino growing up, I dern near grew up on Pancit, Lumpia, halo halo, banana ketchup, and a bunch of of other stuff I forget. All the Filipino get togethers I was invited to, all the food and all the fun stuff. I haven't had Filipino food in a few years.
Wow, that's cool that they shared their food with you and invited you to all the get togethers. I really like Filipino food, but only started to get into it in adulthood. I never liked it as a kid. I guess my taste buds expanded.
Aloha Misty. I'm not too familiar with Filipino food, so I probably wouldn't know the difference between authentic and modern twist. The only food item I had tried was halo halo. Keep the great videos coming!!!
Amazing looking food. Those desserts looked amazing, and you aren't really into sweets, so it must have been a really good balance between rich and sweet.
Yes not into desserts although I have been eating them at every restaurant we've been to lately. I go for anything ube so that I will eat. If it's creamy I'll eat it. But not so into cakes and cookies, etc.
Thank you. This is exactly my issue with these kind of restaurants. At least keep the overall flavor of the dish the same while being creative. A lot of people will think this is traditional flavors when it’s far from it. For example, I overhead a tourist while he was ordering a loco moco asking why the gravy was brown because it’s supposed to be white. Apparently where he was from someone made the loco moco with white gravy which I’m guessing is a southern spot and hopefully not hollandaise sauce 😂.
Yes if it's far off then it's a no for me. I'd definitely go back for the desserts though. But not enough to make me come back for the entrees. White gravy on loco moco?! Lawd! 🤣
Aloha Misty!! Mahalo for sharing this place. And def would like to try the ube and the lechon that's different. I haven't met a purist when it comes to food but I do know they exist. Bougee is good once in a while😁 I look forward to your next review as always🤙👍😋
Man the desserts were fire! 🔥 You'd definitely like them all with your sweet tooth! Nhi would love the shrimp and fish. Yes bougee is nice sometimes but we've been a bit too bougee this month. 🤣 I also have another place we went that was very expensive but I'll hold off on that video for a bit. 🤣🤑
Aloha Misty, Chanel and Armance (my fellow 🐯s): Nice to see all of you enjoying the up-scale Filipino food. Everything looked really delicious, even the San Miguel Beer! Nice to see upscale Filipino food has arrived in Honolulu. My memories of Filipino food was Mabuhay Cafe in Chinatown - pork adobo and rice. Your vlog brought back those memories from the days past. Looking forward to the next great adventure vlog. Much 🧧 and Kung Hee Faat Choy, to you, fellow 🐯s and Aiden! 🤙
I have to be in the mood for fusion foods and have to really keep an open mind. I hear you - I expect a certain taste, but the “flair” changes it so much. Sounds like an interesting place, though, and like your friends said, it could make Filipino food a little more approachable, and maybe they can try more authentic dishes later (with you!). >^.^
Yes it was not my cup of tea, but I appreciate the creativeness. And like you and my friend pointed out, have people that are apprehensive try it out. I heard it is closed now for "renovations"? I think what is also off putting is the price point. But that's just my opinion.
Piggy Smalls closed? I took my daughters there for vegan pho and brussel sprouts because the Pig and the Lady was booked. What a difference a year makes. Peso looks masarap! 😋
Let me know if you find out. I have done most main spots like Thelma's, Elena's, Shay's, Sw8 Dada Sisig, and the one in Pearl Highland's food court. I have a hole in the wall I'd like to film soon but just never got to it yet.
@@FoodFiend Thanks, when Moanalua 99 was still open. There was this Filipino stall and I went there and asked id tgey had turon, she said yeah and pointed at the lumpia. I said no turon. Went back and forth a couple times and I just gave up.
Welcome to middle aged...bring on the colonoscopies and menopause, let us celebrate with a few extra drinks and desserts even though kinda pricey 🤣🤣🤜🤛!!
What’s better than sharing food and drinks with friends. The food looked great.
Yes it was a fun night!

@@FoodFiend I understand why that food looked really good👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
i like traditional filipino food
Me too.
You guys are pretty much on point but I like boujee the most.
Yes I love fine dining! Too bad most people are not interested.

Yes unfortunately they moved. Rent is probably so high there. It was good! Just different. 🤙
More Filipino restaurants please. I hear there's one off Nimitz. Industr I al area. ?

Wow, they have turon? That is so difficult to find.
Really? I think if you go to some mom and pop Filipino stores they get with the biko and Suman. 🤙

McKinley rock!
Yessss! 🤙🐅
I think if its reasonably priced its ok but the fact thats it's off the norm. makes it scary and pricey.
I agree.

Chopsticks? Filipino food needs a spoon and a fork.
Yep. Not sure what was up with that, but they didn't give us forks and spoons. 🤷♀️
Hey Misty!!! Nice video! I’ll go to Max’s instead. Peace out! 😂❤
🤣 understood. You should've saw my bill tonight. 4 hundo. 🤣
Oh my, my $$$ Ward restaurants would be off limits for me. I’ll go to Waipahooo for traditional Filipino grinds. 😂
@@SakuraSpring lol understandable but even before I did videos we'd often enjoy fine dining. 🙂
@@FoodFiend I’m glad you got to enjoy good food and time together with your high school friends. That’s priceless. 🌟
