What a great video explaining the air suspension. It answered so many of my questions. Thank you very much for taking the time and effort to make this - highly appreciated.
Not sure if I’ve ever commented on a UA-cam video before but have to say THANK YOU - used this excellent video, took some notes, and referred back to video for any questions throughout the install. Successfully replaced the airbags yesterday and my GX is driving so much more smooth. And the money saved is the cherry on top!
Wow thank you so much, cant believe I did this. Use Arnott spring (A-2949) cause Lexus dealership was asking for $450 for single spring. I did it without removing any tires ( just lower the spare tire)
Don't judge a book by its cover....it took me a bit to get used to your accent....at first I was like "this video is terrible"...but then after watching it a few times, I agree with everyone....it's fantastic and so well done. TY
Thanks for this video. It gave me some great direction. I stumbled upon a much easier way to seat the air shocks than turning on the car and the air compressor. I have two GX's and I replaced the air shocks on both this past weekend. On the first vehicle, I installed the shocks and was ready to seat them, but the compressor wouldn't turn on when I started the car. I was resigned to replacing the compressor, so I put the wheels back on and proceeded to take the car off the jack stands I was using. Upon removing the jack stands and lowering the second side with the jack, I heard two loud snaps. I looked under the rear axle and both air bags had snapped into place. I got lucky, but I could have just jacked it back up and re-seated them had they missed. On the second car, I lowered it slowly and when the first airbag made a little snug contact (on the side opposite the jack), I snapped the nipple in place, then continued lowering the vehicle until the air bage closest to the jack made contact and snapped it into place. Turned on the car and bingo! One additional plus, the compressor in the first car kicked in!
Wow I live in the rust belt and it’s so nice to see a undercarriage with no rust, it’s always enjoyable watching you and how you explain things with your broken English:) Thank You for sharing.

Nice work Peter. I recently replaced the rear air springs & shocks as well as the front struts and springs on my 2008 GX470 with ~ 130,000 miles on it. Used OEM parts as well. The rears went quickly although I will say reattaching the upper clip was a challenge. Especially on the left side. I like your airline release tip using the retainer clocked 90 degrees. Sweet. In my case I used a short length of 1/4" hard plastic drip tubing sliced lengthwise to fit around the airline to release the internal lock tabs. I could have saved some big $$$ going with aftermarket parts but why take a chance on inferior quality? My GX rides like a new vehicle. Keep up the good work!!!
Dude you are the best video ever on how to remove the rear airbags on this vehicle better even the repair manual, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you. And God bless you.
@@can-cruiser If it was up here in Canada but the owner was WILLFULLY ignorant of readily available, inexpensive and highly effective rustproofing options like Krown, it would indeed be very rusty. My 2005 'Toyota' gets plastered in salt every winter but has NO rust because I spend one hour per year at the closest Krown franchise. Failing to rustproof your car in the Salt Belt is as incomprehensible and inevitably destructive as failing to change the oil. One additional hour spent on an annual application of good quality paste wax will keep the shiny side looking good as well.
I suspect if your rear air suspension is blown, you should check your shocks. If the shocks are gone, it will put more sudden (instead of damped) stresses on your air suspension which might be why it failed.
I removed all that air suspension on my GX470 and installed old man emu suspension with Prado spring conversion kit from Metal Tech in Oregon. Easier and more durable than the air suspension. One of the things I didn’t like about my GX470 was the air suspension even when it was working well. Problem solved and now it really is more like the LandCruiser Prado it is!

How do you make it go back into itself?
Yeah I’ve got a 2003 Lexus gx470 and about each year I have to take it in to get the air suspension hose fixed, don’t think I’ve ever had the bags replaced only the hoses. Got about 174k miles on it and the suspension the only problem now and then
Hubby just replaces my brakes and rotors on the back. I think it's because of my lean passenger-side air suspension I think it's not working it's leaning. You did an amazing job explaining in leman's terms so we could understand what you were talking about. Now off to order my part. I have a 2006 Lexus gx470. I love driving her.
Hello Peter, do you know what the diagnostic procedure for the air suspension system is or where i could find it? My toyota Land Cruiser (same system as the gx) has a fault and the rear suspension appears to not fill up at all, the compressor works fine and I'm not sure on how to locate the problem.
Are there any decent sources for aftermarket airbags? Probably sell car in the next year so was hoping to avoid the Lexus penalty but also want the new owner to have a good five to ten years out of them

I had the 2 springs/4 shocks replaced on my 06' Sequoia 4wd at 174k in January 2020. I also have the rear air suspension. My mechanic said he called and researched everywhere. There is no company that makes aftermarket spring/struts for Sequoia compatible with air bag system. I had to go with Toyota parts. The parts cost came to $630. Considering how long the original parts lasted, I wasn't mad there wasn't a cheaper part option (also makes decision making easier having just 1 option lol). My air bags certainly have a leak but it is only noticeable after not being started after a day and a half or so, then a sag in height will become noticeable.
