Now I'm teaching K-5th, I actually have a door I can close. When I taught at the community college, I had a cubicle and anyone could wander by and distract me.
Well Rachel, Have you ever thought about making you a sign that says "Sorry, I'm not available right now" to hang on the little peak window on the door of your classroom for when you have that personal time in your classroom to get things done that are weighing on you without being disrupted? #Justathought I hope that you had an awesome Valentine's Day. - Dwight
I remember hearing of co-workers staying past 7 pm or going into the school on the weekends. Then, I realized-what are they doing? I mean- not judging-but not for me. Grades, lesson plans, and such can be done at home on the computer. The time at school is for things like making copies. This helped tremendously.
Could you please tell me what grade you teach? I am impressed that you can get it all done within your contract hours. I never seem to be able to! I would love more teacher tips on productivity from you. 😊
I teach 4th grade. I do think it's easier to get more done during the day with older kids since they are capable of working independently for longer periods of time. I have a whole playlist on productivity you should check out! ua-cam.com/play/PL2VmkRuIvkfMkqV8Br3naIeNuD9JoU7i7.html
I get the written plans completed on Tuesday. The rest of the week I work on gathering materials, making copies, etc. My grade level team splits up the planning, I am only responsible for planning Writing & Word Study. I will say anytime there are new standards or curriculum, it takes longer.

Oh that would definitely be distracting!

Yes, I agree! I also had someone tell me "It'll be there tomorrow" and that helped to not feel like I had to finish something that day.

So, you get ALL your plans for a week done during your 45 minute planning on Tuesday? HOW?! And what counts as “planning”?
