      Yes, they do. They believe in *their* logic which is absolutely illogical in most cases, e. g. "Oh, science can't explain how non-living matter came into being, ergo God did it. Checkmate, atheists."

If you know how non-living matter came into being, tell me, please. In case you didn't notice, there are quotation marks in my last comment for a reason.

    The fact that theists can even ask these questions with a straight face honestly terrifies me.
    Because it honestly speaks more of them than it does of me. Are they saying if they didn't believe in 'god' they wouldn't love someone?
    That alone implies they don't care about love or being good, they just wanna score brownie points with the big bad Mafia boss in the clouds.
    And that is neither altruistic or compassionate. In all due honesty, they do it because they're commanded to, not because they want to-they'd rather not do the job, but hey, they HAVE to, or they believe they,ll get flogged for not doing it.
    And that's just immoral... No. Not just immoral. It's outright cowardly. It's the most shameless form of suck-up in my eyes, and I have no respect for people who indulge in it.
    TL:DR
    Theists have no morals, just rules, are craven to the extreme, and don't have any capacity for love, empathy or altruism. It's just an act and they fail miserably at pretending they actually give a fuck about others so long as they can get their fix.
    The sheer selfishness of it all makes me want to puke.

      No. Theists can ask this question with a straight face because they have a diametrically opposing worldview from you where God IS love and where love is not a mere emotion. Emotions change due to stimuli, but love is eternal. Love supersedes feelings. Love creates. No, belief in God isn't what enables a person to love, because we believe that God IS love and everything he does is love including creating us in his image, hence our ability to love. So, simply because one does not accept the existence of God doesn't change the fact that they are his creation and made in his image so whether one believes in God or not, they have the capacity to love. It's just interesting to hear the explanation of it manipulated from an atheist worldview.

      How can you love your fellow human beings , them being not perfect , and not love Jesus , him being perfect ?
      Get off of your self righteous , bigoted , holier than thou high horse and stop judging people just because they believe in God .
      Stop putting down people who are different than you .
      Are you anti - Christian ?

    To be fair, Christians and Muslims define "love" as the thing the invisible guy in the sky has for us, despite being willing to sentence us to eternal torment and suffering for the slightest infractions or sign of doubt... so I'm not sure we're all on the same page about what constitutes "love".

    • @corbynself6682
      @corbynself6682 6 років тому +1

      You can’t know what a Christian thinks love is if ur not a Christian just like a Christian can’t know what a atheist thinks love is

    • @hundejahre
      @hundejahre 6 років тому +5

      Absolutely wrong. I can know exactly what a Christian thinks love is because they state it over and over and over again, and unlike say a fish describing what it's like to breath and I can never understand because I'm not a fish, a Christian and an Atheist are both human beings using a common language to describe a shared experience of which both are capable.
      So when a Christan says Jesus is love, and Jesus is God, and God is unchanging, and God hates gays, and God demands the first born of everything, including humans, be sacrificed to him because it all belongs to him, I can clearly understand love, hate, sacrifice, ownership. I know what all these things mean, Christians don't get a special pass to some deeper level of understanding, if anything it's the opposite; if a Christian claims the god of the bible loves us all while committing atrocities against us (or demanding that we commit atrocities against each other in his name), clearly THEY are the ones failing to understand the meaning of love. The concept of love long predates Christ, they don't get to change the definition to suit their perverted purpose.

    • @corbynself6682
      @corbynself6682 6 років тому +1

      Thomas Binney well 1. God doesn’t hate anyone, ya gays aren’t going to heaven but if they accept the Holy Spirit in their heart then they will forgive them and they can go to heaven because God will love them, that is love, God is love. Sending his son to die on the cross for us and suffering what he did. Is that not love, giving your life for someone. I’m a Christian and I love everyone, I would die for you but the only reason I would do that is because jesus and I know where I am going. I’m not trying to argue with you or say u r wrong because ur beliefs are your beliefs and I have mine, but I wouldn’t be happy or love as much as I do without God that’s why Christians say God is love

    • @corbynself6682
      @corbynself6682 6 років тому +1

      Thomas Binney and God doesn’t demand sacrifice that was only in the Old Testament before jesus died for our sins

    • @hundejahre

      +Howlingwolf/Pantherprod UA-cam
      quote: "Thomas Binney and God doesn’t demand sacrifice that was only in the Old Testament before jesus died for our sins"
      So in other words, god DID demand human sacrifices, up until he sent his son to be sacrificed. And his son had to die to keep us from going to hell, a punishment that never existed before Jesus. So before Jesus the worst that would happen is that you would die and stay dead, but after Jesus you get to suffer eternal torture. Remind me again why Jesus is supposed to be good for us? According to Jesus, to have any hope of obtaining heaven, you have to keep the Law better than the most pious priest, something NO modern day Christian does, so by your own god's words, you're all going to hell... which means we still don't get any rest from your complaining.

    My World Religions professor claims that we can’t explain love with just chemicals and no one had ever discovered why we feel love. In response, I emailed him an article detailing possible ways love evolved and how we can observe love as chemical reactions in the brain. To which he responded, “But that’s not love, that’s just chemicals! Love isn’t chemicals!”

    • @atreides213
      @atreides213 6 років тому +2

      "Are you saying all relationship problems could be solved by giving people dopamine supplementation therapy? Why has this not happened years ago?"
      I mean, we probably could if we wanted to. We already have drugs that correct hormonal imbalances fro people with depression. But we'd need to do a lot more research into it. Your question is kind of like asking, "Why haven't we discovered the cure to cancer years ago?" Scientific discovery isn't a loading bar that takes a set number of years to advance. It can happen very quickly or very slowly.
      "Is it just possible that there is a little bit more to the story than just brain chemicals?"
      Sure. It's also possible that a god exists, but that possibility is so slim that it isn't even worth considering. Nothing we have observed in any way suggests that our emotions are anything but chemically based responses to stimuli. If you have something to suggest otherwise, please present your evidence.

  • @Jesus2030King
    @Jesus2030King 6 років тому +1

    Okay, I hear you. However, at the end of the day Love is no different to other chemical reactions within our universe. Its just that, an impulse that is dictated by whatever environmental pressure you are faced with. To say that love is demonstrated through the actions of how others treat each other, still does not justify the concept of love. The justification for why that should be the desired outcome cannot be explained through materialism. The world view has reduced it and given it no value. An atheist who try to shape their arguments behind the philosophy of value is to me dishonest. How can value be derived from the perception of blind, accidental forces of chance? And by the way to save you guys from straw manning me, I am NOT saying atheists cannot love but merely pointing out what is to me inconsistencies of what the atheistic world view offers.

    A very relevant comparison between feelings of love and religion is that both may be the result of seduction, meaning that it is not a two-way sentiment. It is even possible to induce the emotion in someone for an object of love/belief without the object existing as more than seducing words.

      Atheists can’t have morals. All you have to do is focus on your survival in favor of natural selection. If you believe in morals, you are no atheist. Atheism is logic and only logic. You are a believer of the morals you hold. A Christian, for example, identifies as one because of the unique set of beliefs which he believes constitutes morality. If you want morals, then go live in the world full of unicorns and fairy tails of theists.

    Hi Hemant,
    I am thankful for your questions and responses. I am a Christian who is in constant pursuit of truth.
    I am struggling with one thing about your scientific response to love. How do these chemical(or hormonal) reactions begin? I know you could say an exterior stimulant could allow your limbic system to fire neurons. But how does that part of your brain know to fire?
    I think the same thinking could be applied to the cosmological argument. I am not a 7 day creationist. If you look at he original Hebrew Creation story the term "Yom" is used to describe a day or an unspecified period of time. The creation stories sequential events nearly line up of that in the big bang belief. Atheists struggle to answer what caused the initial atoms to expand.
    I would love to open up a conversation about these questions. Please feel free to message me and we can set up a time to chat.

    Aristarchus was born in about 310 BC in Ancient Greece. He was the first person to propose that the earth and the other planets orbit the sun. He also said that the stars are much farther away than the planets. Most people ignored Aristarchus and continued to believe that the earth lies the center of the universe and that everything orbits our planet.Some people demanded that Aristarchus be put on trial for daring to say Earth is not at the center of the universe.Soon Aristarchus’s work was forgotten. It would stay forgotten for almost two millennia. There are many more examples of scientist who had theories that we today think are common sense but because it couldn't be proven this scientist and many other died thinking he was crazy and wrong. so because can't be proven now does it mean it's not true. can i prove God is real, well no thats why its called faith. what science and education period teaches us is how much we don't know. we get a little bit of knowledge and get arrogant and feel like we have learned something. it's a toss up. if I'm wrong I've lost nothing, what happens if you are? everything you do that is loving comes from the bible: mind your own business, bibles tells you that, golden rule, bible! be kind to strangers, bible! Morals is defined as principles of right and wrong behavior. so who is the ultimate judge of right and wrong? man is they say...so slavery was right, i mean man said he was right in his actions. that's stupid of course slavery was wrong, according to who? i have watched some of your videos they are just full of fallacies. you never say why you just pose a bunch of question that are open ended.

    Hey man, I love your videos, but just one complaint:
    Not really your fault, but I think the use of the term "atheist" and "atheism" does some harm because it makes it seem as tho the default position is in fact a philosophy on its own.
    I know that is super picky, but I hope one day there will be no need for clarification of 'one who doesn't believe'. Rather, we will just talk about 'normal people' and 'believers'.
    Anyway, keep making vids!

    Ooh, actually there have been studies that say that the limbic system (the system responsible for rewarding feelings) is hyperstimulated in religious situations (going to a church, a temple, a mosque), almost to the same amount as someone who's an addict or an alcoholic.

    To be honest, I think this is a fairly rational question for a believer to ask. The answer, of course, is yes. The reason is that, as mentioned in the video, we experience it, and we can see it in others.
    But, it is still not a fully rational question because a feeling is the same as claiming to know some supernatural reason for that feeling.

    1. We know love exist because we see what people do. So your proof of the existence of love is based on the actions of other. So can I say your mum loves you because she cook for you and clean for your? And what about a chef who cook for your? or a paid profession who cleans your apartment. Do they love you? or even love you the same way your mum loves you? If you can say what your mum does is the proof of love. then why the same action done by different person is not the proof? Policeman would take a bullet for you to safe a live. Firefighters would risk their lives to safe you from burning buildings. And certainly they would feel awful if they fail to safe you from harm. Can we say they loves you the same your wife loves you?

  • @alexwilson365

    Thank you for making your video.
    Wait so you can prove love exists because that was love does to people but can't put the same thinking for a deity. Because ultimately a relationship with a deity is something that changes and moves you as a human being.
    I am not willing for an argument but you ever said to someone who feel emotions for and said "I have chemical reactions towards you" the point I am trying to make is that by using the word love your using a word to explain something.
    I feel it boils down to language, the whole belief, religion, science, spirituality, is defeated by the fact we are trying to explain something that doesn't need language to explain. It's a relationship with your feeling regardless of whether you take other people experiences and knowledge into account, regardless if you identify with a scientific law or theory or whether you have a theological path of discussion.
    Just me and my ten cents.

    Since when has love been measured in a lab? Proof please? How does love begin? Why does it begin? Is love just an emotion? Is it just a mix of chemicals in our brains? Why is love so manifestly different between individuals? What exactly is a ‘feeling’ and how can feelings be quantified? How long do emotions last? Can love exist without reciprocation? If so why and how is it different to love that is reciprocated? What is the point of love? What purpose does it serve? Is it essential? Can love be imagined? Can love be faked? Are we biologically predisposed to fall in love? Why do some people never find love? As the body ages and capabilities reduce does love reduce proportionally? Can love be demanded or commanded? Is there an intellectual component of love? How many senses is love dependant upon? Is one sense more important than another for love to work? How is love lost?

    • @VanoArts
      @VanoArts 6 років тому

      love is just serotonin oxytocin and adrenalin
      the reason why it is so different between individuals is BECAUSE it is just a chemical soup connected to our complex neuron system and not just a super natural force.
      Romantic love is to be accurate a invention of the romantic epoch...maybe youve heard of it if you went to ANY school. We feel love because it makes us social and being social was a huge advantage to survive. So there was a mutation that caused the production of those hormones in the very early stage of life. Not human.
      The same can be applied to any other feelings. Feeling embarrassed? Thats because you want to be accepted in a group or sociaty because if they throw you out you are not very likely to survive. Are you aggressive? Thats because being aggressive makes you dominant in a group so you are more likely to get the women.

    2. You mentioned the way we feel is the proof of love. Ok lets look at this aspect scientifically. Your body react to the environment by the amount of chemical and electrical signals circulating in your brain. So I think you and I can agreed that is the interpretation of our body. Here is the thing. You don't have to fall in love with someone to experience the feeling of love. A drug addict who pump large dose of dopamine into his body he would have the same feeling. Can we call that as love? If that is not the proof of love why not? Just because your bodily chemical react in certain ways. Why do you insist that is the proof of love?

  • @johnflowers6811

    There are many errors and contradictions in this video. He says atheists can experience love firsthand and don't have to rely on other people's words like religious experiences. I think that's strange for a couple of reasons. How many atheists rely on the words of Richard Dawkins, Lawrence Krauss, Stephen Hawking, Charles Darwin, etc. without having actual empirical data that any of their theories are true? First, all theists, aren't religious and the way people come to know the person of God is completely different than being introduced to the concept of God. This is not reliant on "other" people's words in the same way he asserts that the atheist can experience love. The question "Do atheists believe in love" isn't the right question. A better question would be "How can you explain what love is from an atheistic worldview"? See, atheist can answer that simply. God IS love. Therefore, from atheist perspective, love is NOT an emotion, emotions change according to stimuli. Love can better be described as more of a life energy that makes life worth living. That would be a more secular description. Using his example, if the feelings change or if behaviors change, then the love must not exist. This is not true according to a theistic perspective. We believe in something called agape love (look up greek terms for love) and that is a sacrificial love that is NON emotional. He tries to separate God from love and you can't unless you degrade and downgrade love to a mere idea or emotion. No, you can't measure love in a lab because love isn't a chemical it's the very essence that makes any person alive. Looking at a brain monitor gives no explanation for what love really is or why people have emotions in the first place. How can you explain emotions from an evolutionary perspective? You can't, you've just gotta say they came from evolution. Theistic explanation: We are made in God's image and God has emotions, so we have them. God is love, so we can love whether we believe in God or not.

    Hello, recently i have been questioning my believe in god, but there are certain things that kinda let me stick to my believe that there might be a higher Existence. Why do we actually exist? How come that there are billions of universes we know nothing about of ? These are questions that exceed the Capacity of my Brain. And thats where in my Case in someway Faith takes over. Maybe you as an Atheist can explain your point of view to my questions why we exist?

      Throughout History, science has explained phenomenons that used to be attributed to Gods. For example, the ancient Greek myths said that a giant was holding up the sky on his shoulder. Otherwise, how does it not fall on our heads?
      We've improved since then but we're still ignorant. To be an atheist is to accept that we don't know yet. We have to seek the answers by ourselves and challenge our beliefs using experimentation and logic.

    • @azuregriffin1116
      @azuregriffin1116 7 років тому +1

      Ok, here's one, and I need you to not look at it from a human-based perspective. Imagine a blind man who throws a dart in a room filled with a checkerboard pattern, and a sighted man says "the chances of you hitting that square are a hundred thousand to one, it must have had a divine motivation." That is what religion is. If you think of every way life could have ended up, yeah, there's only a tiny chance it would have been like this, but with so many possible outcomes each being equally unlikely, one is bound to happen. We are just the one that did.
      Another way to think of it is rolling a die six times in a row, now the chances of getting any combination in a certain order is equally (un)likely, but we would happen to consider some more significant, for example: six sixes, even though it's just as likely as a 5, 3, 6, 5, 1, 4 (in that order). In our case, this existence seems significant just because it is ours.
      As long as we see ourselves as a goal, we think existance is made for us, but when we realise we're that 1/100,000 tile then we realise this universe doesn't care. Make sense?

    The real question for atheists is how what you do and what you plan to do in the future contributes to a fundamental change in your personality, character, etc.? In other words, did your actions make you feel complete purposefully and happily and why? Science cannot answer those questions because science does not know you, you know you and so does Jesus Christ God Almighty. You have to come to that realization on your own. These questions are also addressed in Ecclesiastes.

    Once again you have fallen for another Christian misconception. Ancient Hebrews viewed God as sitting on a throne above the earth and looking down. Many Old Testament passages allude to this belief. Jesus was aware of this misconception.
    Luke 17.21 When asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, Jesus replied, "The kingdom of God will not come with observable signs. Nor will people say, 'Look, here it is,' or 'There it is.' For you see, the kingdom of God is within you."
    John 14.10 Jesus said "Don't you believe that I am in the Father, and that the Father is in me? The words I say to you I do not speak on my own authority. Rather, it is the Father, living in me, who is doing his work."
    You view God from without like an imaginary being such as Santa Claus. Yet, you don't realize that God is actually within. Your premise is already based on faulty understanding of God. As consequence, your conclusion is incomplete.
    I have to disagree with your statement that when people talk about God their not talking about how they feel in response. Have you ever met people who have had a spiritual experience? All they talk about is their feelings. There obviously is something which is effecting them from WITHIN.
    Love and God effect from within because love is God. The child that is saved is due to the parent allowing God to work through them. The parent does not own love, they possess it. They may not know that the love inside them is called God. That's besides the point. You may possess something I own and mistake it for yours, that doesn't nullify my ownership or my being.
    The problem is that people don't know what true love is for love is complex because God is complex. What you may mistake for love may in fact be deception. Likewise, what you may mistake for hatred may in fact be love. You may call yourself an atheist and yet be doing God's will, and not even know it. Likewise, you may call yourself a Christian and yet be doing the devil's will, and not even know it.
    For God like love cannot be defined or limited by labels. It is what it is regardless what you think, believe, or do.

    What kind of question is that honestly? Do you believe in Love? Any person who has been born knows exactly what Love is and knows what it's like to experience it. We all experience it when we're infants from parents, Love comes in many forms it's such a complex subject. We got Beotherly Love, Romantic Love, Parent's Love and so on. As a Christian it's ignorant to accuse a non believer of not having Love, like you don't even know them and to make false accusations against someone is slander.
    This whole argument between both sides about who's more loving isn't going to go anywhere if both sides cannot reach an understanding of one another's points. To be honest with all of you, I can't force you in my faith that's not why I'm here. It's my purpose just to bring you the message and that's it. It's up to you, nothing I can do to force you.
    As someone who's battled depression and anxiety. And nearly lost his life to deep sadness I can tell you that a higher power does exist because I was a non believer too at one point. I made fun of Christians and I was wrong to do so. Christianity is a spiritual faith and comes from Judaism. Every person who wrote the books in the bible were all Jewish.
    I'm not Jewish at all, I'm a gentile. In fact you could call Christianity, Messianic Judaism if you wanted to because that's what basically Christianity technically is. Jewish religion nowadays and Christianity believe the same God YWHW but are very different in many ways.
    Anyway I understand you don't read the bible but did you read it with a open mind when you have it a short look? And why do you criticize a God you truly believe doesn't exist? I mean what's the point? Christianity isn't going to be gone ever my friend. No matter what you say. I hope I didn't ramble too long. My apologies.

    Im 26 and i've been madly in love a couple times, now the memories just hurt so much that i don't want to feel anything, the pain festers and keeps annoying, i wouldn't even want to touch love with a 10 foot pole these days, it hurts, but i believe in love because i know it's real, even if it's not a "reality" for me anymore, so screw everyone who says otherwise.

    you completely screwed up your argument for the sentimental answer, I wouldn't be surprised if someone would take a bullet for their "god." literally, the arguments you used for it align with that of religious people defending their respective religion. Non-sentimental answer was meh.
    end part was good, should have kept that only

    Then if you love someone you should first measure it in a lab so you know for sure you love them or they love you, right?

    Love is a feeling not a belief.

    Hi Hemant. You always ask for suggestions at the end so here is one. I would love to see a video on your thoughts about how the future of atheists vs theists will be seeing as how we have this absurd constitutional right to practice religion. No matter what you can do to disprove theists, they will have that right to practice their religion. Do you believe in actually trying to change our constitution? Or do you think it is possible to just let it fade out naturally? Would be interesting to hear your thought, thanks.

    Yes, uncorrupted love without ulterior motives such as heaven and hell.

    This is a fairly obvious straw man. When people ask atheists questions such as "Do you believe in love?" they do so because most (or at least, many) atheists are physicalists. They maintain the view that all that exists is the physical world. However, if that's the case, "love" is nothing more than (something like) the synapses in one's brain firing in such a way that it brings about a love-like feeling. But everything that happens in the brain, and every "loving" action the brain produces is nothing but the result of of the laws of physics playing themselves out. You can call that process "love" if you want, but on this view, your brain, your conscious experience, and everything you ever do is just one part of the giant Rube Goldberg Machine that is the universe.
    That said, this contrasts with traditional, and common sense notion of love that entails things like a will, (objective) value, etc.
