I like that the director helped James with this review's copyright issues and yet he still was honest in his criticism. I just appreciate that level of authenticity from James.
Part of the reason I love the fact that the Janitor is fully silent is because I'd like to think he's very much meant to be a video game main character without any voice lines or dialogue options while all the other characters are basically NPCs, that's why to them killing the animatronics seems impossible to do while it seems so easy for him
The Janitor's work ethic is literally everything I want to be. Showing up, not giving a crap and whatever's going on and just doing your work. When it's break time, it's break time.
Same man. I go back to work tomorrow, old job I hate (wrongful termination and settlement thing, it's taken 5 months to solve) and I flat out feel sick to my stomach going back. If I could just turn that off, focus on the job at hand when I'm there, able to fully separate while on break, and finish the day.
I think the character is super underrated. It was the main draw of the movie for me. He is peak masculinity. He has perfect integrity. He takes his breaks not because he wants to, but because he agreed to take the job and his boss told him to as part of the job. He cleans between the attacks because that’s the job he agreed to do. He wouldn’t have left even if the doors weren’t unlocked. My favorite part is that after each attack, he gives the remaining animatronics the chance to be peaceful. He only defends himself when threatened. Non-aggression principal taken to an extreme. Just like every other principal he has. I’m surprised James didn’t go more in depth with his character. Maybe I only care because I’m a philosophy nerd.
I actually really dig Nick's character in this movie. The dog tags hanging from the rearview mirror imply a military background, with possible trauma explaining the silent demeanor and nonchalant approach to everything. I also really like the breaks. The levelling up allegory makes way more sense when you notice that each break has him getting better at the pinball cabinet over time, culminating in him rolling the score counter over while also dancing. It being his workbench as he prepares to fight Willy again is also really fitting.
There’s a theory that he came to the town to get revenge on the robots which also explains why he doesn’t react to anything or leave when he has the chance to
It also feels almost ritualistic. Like, there's no proof, but I imagine that taking the breaks is an occult rule that allows him to kill the animatronics, which is why the other workers just died. Tex Macadoo wants the animatronics dead so he gives each sacrifice the hint, but any other person would either just try to finish ASAP or forget about taking breaks or cleaning after the first possessed animatronic attack.
I think it also connects to the security guard characters, who have names but, no true identities. You can say the same for the teens who remind me of the teens from the silver eyes novels
He's a military machine. That's why he doesn't talk and he needs FUEL (sugar soda) for his electrolyte based fuel cells. The movie gives this away in the very first scene right after the tires pop. He stands there motionless as the sun goes across the sky. He is a machine.
I had heard a lot of theories that Cage’s character was somehow related to the tragedies there, like his parents were victims or some shit but he survived. And the trauma is why he doesn’t talk, and why he has a lot of “childish habits”. He went into the town already knowing what the deal was, which is why he seems so unfazed and wanted to stay even when he knew what was happening. He went to the town specifically to kill the creatures.
That does make some sense, I know that this movie is supposed to be a low budget parody, but it would be cool if in a possible sequel they expanded on that area.
Some people speculate that his parents were the first two people killed (husband and wife*) in the very beginning. So this was just a massive journey of revenge!
My personal theory is that he is the Ash of this franchize, someone who has went through this song and dance so many times that he's just done with it all and tries to milk every benefit he gets in these situations, like strictly adhering to the breaks.
A small theory I have on Cage's janitor: Given we see dog tags on his rear view mirror, he's got a military background. His fighting style and prowess seems to indicate special ops, or even a commando. A military background might also explain his insistence on taking breaks as he was ordered by Tex to take breaks. His silence could be PTSD from his time in the military, or damage from a previous mission. It's all speculation, but it would give a fairly plausible explanation for his skills and dedication to a job that he reasonably should have walked out on. (He had no problems kicking that chained door down.)
The breaks were probably the funniest part of the movie to me, and it only got funnier each time he took one. Nick Cage really said “fuck this”, and refused to do anything he didn’t feel like doing during his break. Mad respect.
I'm glad he is passionate about them recently, he's doing all these movies cause he was in massive debt, but its good to see he actually enjoys himself and supports the project sometimes
nicolas cage also played in some movies I remembered, -ghost rider 1 and 2 -tokyo ghost town -con air -spiderman into the spider verse and fun fact: the "not the bees!" memes
I think it’s definitely due to how he got his Oscar pretty early in his career (which he definitely deserved). Since he already got the highest accomplishment an American actor can get at 31, he basically was able to do whatever he wanted because he already had the prestige. Charlize Theron and Anna Paquin are also good examples
Nicholas Cage being silent makes this film ten times funnier when he just cleans, gives the animatronics a weird look, plays pinball, and beats the shit out of them.
I can't stress enough how much I love that fact they paid Cage to film like 5 cleaning monatges. You don't pay him to say anything, but you paid him to scrub? 😂
It would of been a cool twist to see cage being a robot himself which would explain why he could kill them so easily and why he had to take breaks as he had to follow the instructions given to him.
My headcanon is that Nick worked as a janitor at the place a long time ago, and has past trauma linked to this place. He feels a compulsion to drink and take breaks as an impulsive return to normalcy caused by PTSD.
He’s not a robot. The movie is was depicting nick as the typical silent video game protagonist. Who’s able to defeat the big evils even though he’s a human and it goes through stages. That’s what the movie was. It knows it’s not a real movie with a good story or anything that’s not what it’s trying to be. It’s trying to be five nights as Freddy’s in a game form
I've always wanted a horror movie where the main character just nonchalantly dusts the antagonist thats supposed to be scary and Unstoppable. This movie scratched an itch I never thought would get scratched. 😂
I always felt Cage's character was supposed to be a silent first person shooter protagonist. A silent unquestioning person who's there to complete his objectives and fight enemies whenever they pop up and as soon as he's done fighting them he goes back to completing his objectives
Tex at the beginning said "Be sure to take breaks, gotta pace yourself" and that went on the HUD as one of his objectives. [] Clean restaurant. [] Kill Haunted Animatronics [] Take Breaks - Must finish before morning.
I always assumed Cage is just ment to be exceptionally badass, given how the whole town is afraid of the mascots, and so many other people have been sacrificed, and everyone is so shocked that Cage is able to put up such a fight. These are haunted animatronics possessed by a satanic ritual, wouldn't be surprised if they're a lot harder to kill then you'd expect, and Cage is just a beast
I haven't seen this movie , but i don't understand the 'not speaking' role he has . Ok it's probably done for dark humour or something but i don't know seems odd . The way the movie is shot looks stylish though , not sure it's my cup of tea as a movie though per se .
@@gemstar7286 The role is meant to make Cage’s character seem more mysterious and cool throughout the film, also Nic wanted a role with no dialogue for a while so they kept it. Def could see why people don’t like it all that much though, personally I like the character a ton.
@@JoJoUL015 real. There was a comment with the same username as The poster of this video that was telling Cox that he won something and to click a link to see what he won
I like the theories for this movie. My personal favorite is that Cage was actually one of the kids in the flash back that survived, and that he went out of his way to find Willies to put an end to the carnage and that's why he didn't leave when he had the chance.
It’s actually been confirmed in the prequel comic book that the reason the janitor went to Haysville was to avenge his brother who who’s killed by the animatronics.
i just started the vid but my favorite theory is that he’s performing rituals. like using old-school Magick or whatever to ritualize following his enemies’ instructions to a T (clean up the place, take regular breaks, use the game to have fun iirc) + following an oath of silence and using mana in the form of drinks. i might not really remember all the details correctly though
@@canijust101 exactly. It seems so video-game like. Especially when the daughter follows him. Its like she was the princess peach, and kinda just follows Cage since he saved her. like mario and peach.
@@canijust101my favourite fanon was that he's fae. Terrifyingly powerful, massively into sweets (his soda), fulfills the exact terms of his deal, no known name, incomprehensible to normal folk.
I think it actually makes sense that the animatronics have more human-like movement, considering that they are actually controlled by the souls of humans, who would be more naturally inclined to move like people rather than robots.
Eh, not really. Its like playing Super Mario 64 DS on a 3DS. Using the circle pad doesn't magically reprogram the game to have 360 degrees of movement, its still just the 8 cardinal directions.
@@Jamie-z1j1eWhat I love is that he's actually completely silent. Aside from one or two grunts while fighting the animatronics, he doesn't utter a single sound for the entire movie. His entire performance is doen through facial expressions and body acting, and it somehow sells an entire character.
Cage's stare is worth a thousand words. It is so surreal and expressive it gives the animatronics a run for their money. This movie was amazing and honestly I found it a lot better than the fnaf one that came out. At least here you can actually see the kills happen.
As a fan of Kill Counts, you can see how much better this has become. Besides the deaths and the comedic bits, the stories behind make them rich and enjoyable. And the help from the director was the icing on the cake. Hard and good work pays off. Love you guys.
Gives me hope that James will cover the FNaF movie when it comes out, or maybe even let Matpat host that kill count? Honestly, James would do good, but if the Dead Meat crew I think Zoran would do amazing for that one
@@Foxy02016 Honestly, I think I'd prefer matpatt to host it. Or at least help James with the research. I might be wrong but I'm pretty sure James isn't familiar enough with the lore of the games to give a kill count on the movie justice
this kill count was honestly such a surprise for me to see, since I remember seeing a short saying that James wouldn’t be able to cover this movie since it would be copyrighted so quickly yet here we are!even if it gets blocked or age restricted ,it’s still awesome this movie was covered and was such a shock to me!good work James and team!!
I absolutely loved this movie! XD i saw as "dumb fun" i could see why nick's character not talking could bum some people out, but i personally don't mind it, especially when i saw the scene showing the dog tag The janitor(Nicolas Cage)has, signifying he's been in the military before(which also explains why he can fight well). I also loved the designs of the animatronics, they look so good and creepy. Also kudos to the director for helping james be able to do a kill count on this movie, (in James own words) aw that's nice.
Personally Nick Cage being a strong but silent protagonist is my favorite part lol. I thought it was hilarious yet epic at the same time. Those death stares he gives sends chills down my spine.
it felt like some kind of self-challenge: since he's so well known for his dialogue delivery (and has been either openly credited with or assumed to have improvised dialogue in several films), he might have wanted to see if he could still give an interesting and compelling performance without speaking at all. imo, he absolutely did!
He's very good at being comedically serious already, and the not talking really enhances that vibe. I think it also adds to the tension by giving him the feeling of something not quite human when taken in concert with his actions.

I love how Zauron is just accepted as the kid of the Dead Meat production. God bless, and hope he gets some good candy while practicing his mickey mouse accent
As another FNaF fan this movie gets a 10/10 from me. Nick Cage did what no FNaF protagonist has ever had the balls to do (at least, not until recently), he did it in style, and it's weirdly cathartic to watch. I freaking love his character in this
I think it stands fine on its own, but it's so painfully obvious that this was supposed to be the FNaF movie before Scott switched to blumhouse, with the backstory, the breaks, and (most obviously), the theming. If Scott let this be the FNaF movie, I think the community would have been completely outraged, and now seeing the FNaF movie trailer, with blumhouse getting *actual* animatronics, I'm glad Scott didn't let this be FNaF's theatrical debut. Warner didn't have faith or respect for the franchise, and it's clear that Blumhouse does.
@@comradedogma4957 this movie is so damn similar to fnaf. The restaurant, the animatronics, the backstory killer (obvious William parallel). I think you’re right with that
Went straight into tears of joy when James did a Kill Count for this movie. It's quite enjoyable to watch if you don't take it so seriously, but if you do, you will hate it. Critics will never understand this!
Yeah I watched this movie with some friends and it's probably one of my favorite movie experiences because it's just such a stupid and easy to joke about movie

I love that nicolase cage has no voiced lines. The acting for him is entirely played by facial expressions and movement which is a testament to the directors and the actor.
Was surprised that James finally did the kill count for this, respect for the director to help James for the kill count. Nicolas Cage played the janitor was my favorite part about the movie. Him keeping his promise to keep the place clean was hilarious. And the kills were good.
So happy that you were able to do this! This movie is so bad that its amazing! I actually have an extra shirt from the movie set that they had extra. Such a great film because its so ridiculous.
I agree. I super disagree with his complaints. the kids are bland but the style and lack of dialog is like watching a video game main character from the outside. I love it.
@@PGFXKiu i put it to the best use and ended up cosplaying at a local convention with it and ended up catching the eye of a photographer for a local paper/website. Made me SO happy 😁
18:31 The sacrificed serial killers are bound to the animatronics through a demonic contract. Nick Cage, by becomming a contracted employee, is granted the power to fight them. But this only works if he obeys his own contract, which includes the mandatory breaks.
I'm a little surprised it wasn't mentioned but in the first scene you see nick cage you see dog tags suggesting he was in the military and therefore being the reason why he knows how to fight so well
I saw theories saying he was silent because of that reason,he must've been a veteran that became mute due to what he went through which is why he never speaks in the film
@@lilith4788 exactly he could have some kind of trauma, it's never explicitly told but y'know seeing the dog tags, plus he's clearly got a lot of money which could come from compensation, a lot could have happened we don't know about and those drinks could either be a a kind of comfort thing or just a random funny thing
It's not important that you haven't been able to easily get kill counts out for Halloween, this video was the best surprise Halloween treat we could have asked for!
Ever since I saw this movie with my sibling, they came up with the headcanon that The Janitor is an autistic mute with diabetes and it just made me enjoy this movie even more. The strict scheduled downing of sodas to keep blood sugar up, the lack of talking and varying expressions, the casual acceptance of the animatronics coming to life and needing to be taken down, the commitment to the job even after the life threatening attacks; it all makes sense through that lens and we just love giving it that personal perspective to love the movie even more
I think the reason cage was so focused on the breaks is because the guy at the beginning made it clear that he really needed to take breaks. I think that cage is supposed to just do what he’s told and get out of that town as fast as he could so he did exactly as he was told as good as possible and dipped
As someone on the Spectrum I took it as the Janitor being heavily on the Spectrum. Mute, objective-focused and during the Willy fight he seems in extreme pain and discomfort as the music is loud and sparkly lights fill the air. Which I relate to heavily.
OH YES!! I loved this movie and was so sad when James said he couldn't cover it, I'm so glad the screenwriter helped him out to make this Kill Count happen, and thank you James!
I was so afraid this one wouldn't happen because of the copyright issue. You guys are amazing! Thank you for once again letting us indulge in the greatness that is Nick Cage the Janitor!
Not gonna lie, seeing this kill count in my suggested made me so happy. This movie is one of my best friends and my favourite movie to watch together because it’s just so wacky and we made entire theories about it and just watch it every time we have sleepovers so I love that this got a kill count made for it
Nick cage using duct tape as bandages throughout the movie is the most hilarious joke in the entire movie for me. Just the idea that he must have walked around on set for weeks with a bit of duct tape on his cheek, all for a really cheesy, super-nonsensical way to make him look bad ass, is such dedication to such a stupid bit that I can't help but smile at it
When he's not screaming about bees, being roped into the job of contract killer thinking he's just going in for a bartender job, impersonating John Trevolta, running down the street at night unable to hold on to the Huggies for the kid he's babysitting without the parents knowledge in the long term, or dashing through New York City screaming about being a vampire. Come to think of it, he does a lot of screaming, except in this movie... wouldn't you say?
Thanks James and everyone else on the Dead Meat team for another great episode!! Extra thanks for the hardwork due to copyright issues, happy to hear the director was willing to help!
It feels like Cage is supposed to be an animatronic designed to kill willy and his gang. he doesn't talk, he's incredibly strong, he has to regularly take breaks to 'recharge' and fuel up by drinking punch and is incredibly and takes the brakes no matter what is currently happening around him.
I interpreted his intense other-ness as him just not being supposed to be there. _Literally._ He's an action movie protagonist that stumbled into a horror movie and completely breaks everything. Following this train of thought, the teenagers are the "intended" protagonists, the traditional teenage friend group that gets picked off one by one.
I'm so glad to see this kill count happen ! I'm not really good with horror movies so I usually discover them with your videos, but for once, I've seen the material beforehand. This movie was so ridiculous that I had a pretty good time watching it, especially with Nicolas Cage's performance :D
That fact that Nick cage is in this movie is such a wild concept because it seems like something you'd find as a passion project on here and then you have Nick cage with a non speaking roll. It just drives in a bizaar feel, atleast for me
Watched this movie for the first time the other night. I expected the movie to be 100% Nick Cage and it ended up being 150% Nick Cage. One of the best movies I’ve ever seen 10/10 ❤❤❤
I love the janitor. He is a badass when it comes to kills. Like, ripping their spinal cords out? This is like something from the saw movies! I love this guy!
So glad that the director is able to help you cover for copyright to get this fun video out!~ Hopefully this can be worked out, you deserve to have fun with these moves as we are!
I find it interesting that the watch timer breaks were meant to a video game metaphor. I watched the movie before the kill count, and every time I saw him go to take a break, the kitchen area made me think of a video game save spot. I never would have guessed that kind of feeling was intentional lol.
For some reason, Nicolas Cage, not talking reminds me of when you’re playing GTA online and you have a full on conversation with someone and you just don’t talk like in one of those cut scenes
Willing to bet James got in contact with the makers to get a guarentee nothing would happen to the kill count before he even sat down to write anything.
It may not be everyones cup of tea but in a time where we thought the fnaf movie would never come, this is a great stand in and really fun! Also I LOVE the song they have playing in the end credits. Total bop.
Hey @deadmeat ik you probably won't see this but my mother was a huge fan of your and so am I through her. She passed away 2 months ago but watched your videos to the end. Thankyou so much for the happiness you gave her
I really like the cinematography and set design! Sara the Sirens area was by far by favourite! The lighting and smoke looks really pretty and if it wasn’t a place where I could get killed I would totally hang out there! 2:45
I really like the count-important-inhuman-kills-separately approach, partially because it adds more interesting colors to the kills and mostly because I think it's a much better decision than just leaving them off the count
20:05 Are we gonna ignore that officer Evan is clearly still breathing when Tito killed him. Also nice reference to the Rock-a-fire Explosion from Showbiz.
Honestly Nick Cage in horror movies is such a fun move! Though not the dull machete I thought it would be, I really liked that kill! Also great Ad read; new favorite one since Bride.
The fact that this was uploaded on my birthday just has to be some crazy luck. I've been waiting a while for this. Thank you for making my day even more special, James.
I won’t lie, the first time I watched this movie, it gave me a migraine. But I watched it again and honestly, I love that it knows what it is. It’s crazy, overthetop and just weird. It’s a fun time and Cage carries the whole thing!

nicolas cage also played in some movies I remembered,
-ghost rider 1 and 2
-tokyo ghost town
-con air
-spiderman into the spider verse
and fun fact: the "not the bees!" memes
I think it’s definitely due to how he got his Oscar pretty early in his career (which he definitely deserved). Since he already got the highest accomplishment an American actor can get at 31, he basically was able to do whatever he wanted because he already had the prestige. Charlize Theron and Anna Paquin are also good examples

It would of been a cool twist to see cage being a robot himself which would explain why he could kill them so easily and why he had to take breaks as he had to follow the instructions given to him.
This is my headcannon now thankyou
This kinda makes sense if you look at 18:23, where he looks to be in some kind of conflict between going to his break and fighting the animatronic.
That my conclusion too
My headcanon is that Nick worked as a janitor at the place a long time ago, and has past trauma linked to this place.

I like the theories for this movie. My personal favorite is that Cage was actually one of the kids in the flash back that survived, and that he went out of his way to find Willies to put an end to the carnage and that's why he didn't leave when he had the chance.
It’s actually been confirmed in the prequel comic book that the reason the janitor went to Haysville was to avenge his brother who who’s killed by the animatronics.
i just started the vid but my favorite theory is that he’s performing rituals. like using old-school Magick or whatever to ritualize following his enemies’ instructions to a T (clean up the place, take regular breaks, use the game to have fun iirc) + following an oath of silence and using mana in the form of drinks. i might not really remember all the details correctly though

it felt like some kind of self-challenge: since he's so well known for his dialogue delivery (and has been either openly credited with or assumed to have improvised dialogue in several films), he might have wanted to see if he could still give an interesting and compelling performance without speaking at all. imo, he absolutely did!

If Scott let this be the FNaF movie, I think the community would have been completely outraged, and now seeing the FNaF movie trailer, with blumhouse getting *actual* animatronics, I'm glad Scott didn't let this be FNaF's theatrical debut.
