- CUT TO: The Don's bedroom. Vito is in bed, holding cards and presents given to him.
Clemenza, Tessio, Tom, Fredo and Sonny are standing around the bed. -day
TOM (sighs)
Since McCluskey's killing, the police have been cracking down on most of our operations --
and also the other Families. There's been a lot of bad blood.
SONNY
They hit us so -- we hit 'em back.
TOM
Through our contacts in the newspapers, we've been able to put out a lot of material about
McCluskey being linked with Sollozzo in the drug rackets. See -- things are starting to
loosen up.
SONNY
And I'm ah sending Fredo to uh Las Vegas, under the protection of uh Don Francesco of L.A
-- I want him to rest.
FREDO
I'm going to learn -- the -- casino business...
SONNY
Yeah...
VITO CORLEONE (whispering)
Where's Michael?
(then, a little louder, after Tom doesn't answer)
Where's Michael?
TOM (after looking off toward Sonny, bends his head toward the Don)
It was Michael -- who killed Sollozzo. But he's safe -- and we're starting to work to bring
him back now.
[The Don, markedly upset and angry, gestures that they leave him alone. They exit:
Tom, Tessio, Sonny, then Fredo]
The disappointment Vito shows when he hears that Michael has joined the business
I don't think that was it.
@@dennistinga24it was tho
@@dennistinga24 It obviously was, he wanted Michael to be a senator.
@@dennistinga24It was. Michael was Vito’s great hope for legitimacy. He wanted him to get into politics and become a congressman or even senator. When he heard that Sonny & Tom allowed Michael to be the one to kill Sollozzo and therefore bringing him into the family business, he was saddened & disappointed to the point he sent Tom & Sonny away instantly.
@@scottishjedi1522That’s the brilliance of this movie. The worst decision was the right decision to make for survival.
the start of Fredo's journey of banging cocktail waitreas 2 at a time.
And getting slapped around by Moe Greene!
And the customers not getting their drinks on time
😂
Not the future Don Vito wanted for Michael. Right there he knew Michael had chosen his path. Broke his heart. I think no one knew it better than Tom. Which is why he walked out so quickly. I think he hurt as well. Remember, Tom told Michael how him and his dad would talk about the future Vito wanted for Michael. He wanted him in politics pulling the strings.
You my friend, have a deep view of this masterpiece, and yes, he never wanted Michael to be a part in the family business, yet he trurned to be the best Mafia head of all time. What a movie!
Yes Vito was disappointed that Michael was now in their business. Versus, being a real, legitimate crook, like being a US Senator.
That's a love between father and son;even though the Godfather didn't want Micheal involved because he wanted to make him a politician like a senatoe but Michael knew his dad woulda got smoked if solozzo lived
The wrong decision was the right decision at the same time.
1:15 very interesting it is Tom who tells Vito that Michael killed Sollozo while Sonny just stay away...
He ain’t care bout nothing that’s was going but Michael his youngest boy 💪🏾💪🏾
do you guys notice how vito had what looked like his grandkids get well soon cards close to this heart T^T I just love that man!
A moment of appreciaition for John Cazale. Such a naturally gifted actor.
He was one of the greatest.
@saigokun Omg' I can only imagine the future that awaited him
& John & Meryl Streep would've got married he would've won at least 2 Oscars maybe 6 Tonys
Never will we see the likes of him again.
@@Msglamtía Indeed, his early dead deprived us of a great actor. :(
Mr. BRANDO WAS BRILLIANT
How big was Marlon? He can show you a lot of emotions with a face…talking was not necessary
Don vito truly loved sonny but micheal was on a whole new level hes without doubt the dons favourite u see the softest side of the don when micheal is there or mentioned
One of my Fav scenes in GF1
All Michael had to do was go to the bathroom and two hitmen go in and take them out. Michael didn't have to commit the act but no one thought of that.
The very reason Michael had to be the one to do it is was because McCluskey and Sollozzo probably had men outside (some cops even) to search everyone who was about to enter the restaurant.
@@chrisn7222not really since he was able to get away by running out the front he pointed his gun at someone in the back but that’s it
Michael wanted revenge on both of them. If you want something done right, you have to do it yourself.
In the book, it was written that solozzo was aware of all the corleone hitmen so he brought mcclusky to deter. They thought about throwing a rookie out there but they didnt want it messed which led to michael being the best chance. It was during the convo with sollozo that michael became aware that sollozo was lying yet again and wanted to have one more shot at the Don so that he can continue with sonny
Controversial opinion: Vito was overjoyed to know Michael did it. Vito realized it was Michael’s plan and that Michael inherited his strength. But he can’t show it on his face. So we briefly see his pride at 1:26 followed by Vito pretending to be bothered by the news
Reach
Big reach. Vito himself says to Michael later on "I never wanted this for you". He was sad to see his youngest son, with a possible bright future, become a part of the business like this.
I have said this before: Michael didn't have actually do the hits. His leaving for the bathroom could have merely been the signal for button men to come in. That scenario of leaving as a signal actually occurred in the real mob world.
I guess they decided against that because of knowing that they would only get one opportunity to get that close Sollozo again and Michael was there, which would increase the probability of success.
However, Michael would have likely still been in it for setting them up.
I just left this comment. It's possible the shooting might not work with button men because they might have sniffed them out the moment they came through the door, but it's still better than Michael doing it and going into hiding.
I'm sure Solazzo and Mccluskey had men watching the restaurant for just that thing. These were very careful men.
Sollozzo was alert. Mike asked to go to the bathroom and he frisked his nuts 😂😂 again.
The youngest seen as a harmless civilian was the only and best card the Corleones had to play.
I know he will be a traitor, but Fredo is so cute 😍
I know! Absolutely adorable , I love freddie
Too bad he pick the foolish path.
Reading these comments makes me understand how Fredo was bale to bang cocktail waitresses two at a time
He’s gonna learn casino business :)
And bang cocktail waitresses two at a time. Nobody will be able to get a drink.
NO, that's not what he said. What he said was he was gonna learn the business of banging cocktail waitresses two at a time.
Him being sent to Las Vegas set in motion his eventual death :(
@@antoniovasquez9946 his stupidity set in motion his eventual death, when he tried to back Moe Green instead of his own family. And was also happy to play a subservient beta role getting "slapped around in public". You can't cure stupid like Fredo. Being sent to Las Vegas didn't have to end the way it did for him in Godfather II. He was given a chance to turn things around.
He can handle things, he’s SMAAAAT!
