The paywalls are incredibly baffling. I feel like a game celebrating Sonic's 30th anniversary should include all sorts of customization and fun features in the base game out of necessity because the game is supposed to be a love letter to fans. It is kinda inexcusable considering Sonic Mega Collection got it right. They even screwed up some of the music titles in the classic music pack. Really well made video!
thanks for watching!! i agree with these critiques and wish Origins just went the extra mile like Mega Collection did, although overall i enjoyed my time with the collection.
Sonic Origins is a complicated collection for me. And this is coming from the perspective of someone who hasn't bought it at this point. 2D Sonic games have always felt like trial and error grinding to me, and I've never been able to properly enjoy any of them... until I played Sonic Mania. That game fixed all of my problems with the Genesis games and made for a masterpiece of a 2D platformer. And I'm sure that heart is in this collection too, but they definitely should've gone farther than what they did. On the topic of customization, it's odd how they keep ignoring quality of life features from past re-releases. Sonic Jam gave all of the games difficulty options to make the levels more approachable, and the Sega Ages versions added Ring Keep which makes stuff like final bosses way more tolerable. Those would've been great additions to the package, but I guess removing the lives system does do the most to help. The widescreen is nice, the mission mode is a solid touch, and I actually prefer most of the prototype music compared to the Genesis versions, but that alone I don't think is enough to justify spending 40 dollars on this for me personally. And I agree that the DLC is ridiculous in the same way that it was for Banana Mania. Sega has been real stingy with DLC in recent years. Remember when they tried to put Super Sonic in Forces behind a paywall? That clearly didn't work out.
thanks for watching! your perspective is really interesting on the classic Sonic games , and I gotta say i agree with you about the missing features like difficulty options and ring keep mode. Origins is a pretty good collection, but there’s just some things missing that would’ve really made this feel like the definitive collection.
2:15 You can turn on the elemental shields and instashield in the configuration menu of Sonic 1 and 2, and you can get the peel out in Sonic 3 after the patch, but its right that disabling the dropdash and enabling the lives in anniversary mode would be very cool
Solid review, and you hit all the same points of contention I have with the game myself. I absolutely love playing this game and don’t want to go back to the old versions. However, there is so much shadiness and odd decisions that came about with and related to this collection that it sours what should have been a slam dunk.
thanks so much for watching!! yeah i really do like these versions but you hit the nail right on the head that this could have been an easier slam dunk than it wound up being.
Launch Base Act 2's new theme is perhaps the only one I like. These were also as you say the replacements in Sonic & Knuckles collection on the PC. But they have been altered a bit for Sonic Origins.
Pretty good review, I was worried coming from the playing hundreds of hours of the fan remasters that I would be very dissapointed, but this quickly has become my favourite way to play these games, the dropdash and how the save files are handled bug me a little in Sonic 1 and 2, but I gotta say that the Sonic 3 remake is almost what I have always dreamed it would be and more, I miss some thing from the pitch that Stealth made in 2014, but I absolutely love this new version of Sonic 3 and its cutscenes, the mobile remakes and the fan remasters might be a little better than Origins' 1 and 2 in some aspects, but Origins is definitely the new definitive way to play Sonic 3 for me, but I really hope future patches fixes some of these things, and maybe DLC (even better if its free/very cheap) adding more characters (like Amy, Mighty and Ray) or emulated versions of other classic games (I have lost all hope for a Retro engine Chaotix :( )
Sonic Jam on Sega Saturn. The menus are good, especially the fact you can actually attach the games to Sonic & Knuckles instead of “& Knuckles” being counted as different games or just being just a character selection menu. Also you can play 3 or & Knuckles by themselves. You can play an early version of Sonic Adventure in Sonic World featuring museums dedicated to Sonic’s history with videos, illustrations, Sonics history from game to game and the soundtrack. Also neat little challenges to do in Sonic World. The games match up with their original Genesis counterpart pretty well, as opposed to the liar that is Sonic Origins’ “Classic Mode”. Michael Jackson music. The best Sonic 3 music. Also, the beta music isn’t bad either, but they butchered it in Origins. Not nearly as buggy. Only issues is no Sonic CD and the price.
Sonic 1 was my first videogame ever, but I couldn't get past Green Hill Zone at 3 years old. 😂 I hope to complete the game someday. Origins may be my chance.
My opinions on the new Sonic 3K music: Carnival Night - I don't mind it. It's fine. Launch Base - I actually prefer it over the original. I was never a fan of Launch Base's music, but this new version is my jam!!! Ice Cap - Nothing will ever beat the original Ice Cap music. And the track that replaces it in Origins is a sorry excuse for level music.
How is IceCap prototype theme a sorry excuse of a level music? I dare you to explain it to me. Because I argue that IceCap prototype theme is really great.
TL:DR No.No,no, no. If you want the real sonic & knuckles collection experience(better name than sonic oRiGinS), get: Sonic 1 forever Sonic 2 Absolute Sonic CD restored(and knuckles mod) Sonic 3 Complete Sonic 3 AIR Sonic 1 & 2 classic heroes Knuckles chaotix Sonic 3D blast Sonic crackers(Beta) 1,2 & CD require apk from android/iOS store AIR requires the rom file(SMD), meaning you can just get that file and the spin off games from pirate bay.
Faithful recreations of the Mobile Games port?? Have you done your research?? Sonic 1 and 2 allowed players to select any stage after finishing the game. The Sonic Origins port removed this important aspect all together.
thanks so much for watching! which classic sonic game is your favorite?
3&K
Definitely 3&K
@SoloMonKe i dont think sonic 3d blast is a part of the classic trilogy
sonic 3
My favourite classic sonic games are Sonic 3 and Sonic 2
In order it would be:
Sonic 3 & Knuckles
Sonic 2
Sonic 1
Sonic CD

And be 30 dollars and be physical

your videos are so under-rated and absolutely quality! keep up the fantastic work on these great videos man !!
Yo thanks so much for watching and commenting, I seriously appreciate it!!
As someone who's never played the older games I think I like the newer songs outside of ice cap zone ofc
"Is Sonic Origins the definitive Classic Sonic experience?"
Is Sonic 06 a functional and polished game?
Yes

I hope ypu can
If Sonic Origins was compatible with Sonic 3 AIR, then it would the definitive version for the champion of the Genesis.
I personally think you should have compared Origins with Jam since they both go for quality over quantity, but eh its still good
Mark haha pasa el link para jugar

Sonic 1 forever
Sonic 2 Absolute
Sonic CD restored(and knuckles mod)
Sonic 3 Complete
Sonic 3 AIR
Sonic 1 & 2 classic heroes
Knuckles chaotix
Sonic 3D blast
Sonic crackers(Beta)
1,2 & CD require apk from android/iOS store
AIR requires the rom file(SMD), meaning you can just get that file and the spin off games from pirate bay.
I have: Sonic 1 forever,Sonic CD Restored,Sonic 3 AIR (S2A i didnt have because i dont know How to fix controls)
I disagree. I prefer IceCap prototype theme over the popular Genesis retail version of IceCap theme.
Sadly not but still good
The definitive editions were the ones they removed from steam
Definitely not. The one steam were emulated and didn't have things such as Spin dash in sonic 1 or widescreen
@@5tuk149 mods
I personally think the prototype songs remade in origins are good
