I drove an 18 wheeler for 13 years. Studies show that the body is sleepiest at 4am. It's sad and dangerous for all night workers, especially making critical decisions. God bless you!
Did 7 years night shift as a nurse and didn't have much issues with sleep. I was always a late night person playing video games or watching series so I grew accustomed to nights fairly quickly when I first started. It also helps that I'm an easy, heavy sleeper meaning I fall asleep easy and I can sleep nearly everywhere any time as long as it's a cool temperature. It also helps that my unit crew was fun, noisy, and all around similar ages so we would keep each other busy throughout the night and do some dumb sh1t lol. But, I've never worked a 24 hour shift and I'm not a doctor so brainwork is very different. My remaining few years as a night nurse, age started to take it's toll and nights were rough. Glad to be off bedside, off nights, and now enjoying a great work-life balance as an NP.
Not sure if all the hospitals in the US have a designated night shift, but here in germany, we usually have 24 hour shifts. You basically stay from 7am to 7am and get the next day off.
You will make more as a physician's assistant or Nurse Practitioner. Malpractice is lower. Hours are better. Everything is easier. And you can laugh at the MDs on your way to the bank.
But this reminds me of the rape incident of an Indian intern(doctor) doing 36 hours long shift. It is brutal. 😢 These people are saving lives. No one deserves this tragedy.

How consistent has your schedule been between taking the night and day shifts? I heard from Huberman that it's much better if you're doing nights to be consistent for at least 2 weeks, rather than swinging between the night and day shifts.
