I would love it if you start a secret closet with no social media ties and no viewers coming in. I want to hear your objective take on starting from scratch in 2023. Give it 30 days, and then tell us how it went!!

I'd like to see this as well. As a newbie reseller I'd be interested to see if social media is important in making sales.

@Claire Lee Social media has a huge influence obviously. But hitting 10 sales a day isn't impossible without it. I've only been reselling fulltime and taking it seriously for 6 months and I'd say I average 5-7 per day sticking to 3 types of items. Used clothing..vintage antiques..and vintage/used gaming products over ebay and Facebook. Just gotta find what items sell best on what site. Once you figure out the details..the rest is just posting frequency. I tried the buy 30 items and be an over achiever.. listing everything In an hour..and learned its not nearly as effective as splitting up those 30 listings over 3 days. He's got thousands of listings..I only have 100...if I can average 5 a day with that little inventory..then he should average 5x the sales I have without social media just because of sheer volume. I think social media just allows him to sell 2-3X his normal sales. I'm also a strong believer that if I had the money to hire a cute girl to host/run facebook...poshmark..Instagram lives etc I would prolly make 3x the sales. In time..

I feel like this questions comes from the wrong mindset. Like the underlying message you want to suggest is that he wouldn't be as successful without the social media. This kinda makes no sense because if he didn't have any social media, he'd have more time to spend on improving the business. Like you essentially want to take like 8 hours out of his week and ask him how he would do on poshmark compared to you. I think the answer is obviously he'd have a better store if he focused on one thing unless his socials explode/ go viral. And you somehow also suggest that starting in 2023 is a different game to whenever he started. This is kind of true but it doesn't matter, either you work at it or you don't. I personally think 30 days is a very short time to start a business. I think the reason people say this is more of a side hustle is because your growth can only come so fast with these algorithms, and then quit your job after you can ride the momentum of your shop to full time. No offence just giving my honest opinion.

Hi Chris, Thank you for your advice! You are always so positive, upbeat, and motivating. I was ready to call it quits with eBay, but now I think I will give it another try, using the method you discussed. If I am selling and making a profit, even if it’s not a huge profit, it is better than leaving the item sitting on a shelf taking up space. And specializing in one type of merchandise seems so simple and efficient! Good luck with potty training duty! Love your philosophy!🤗

Yeah, I definitely have to lower my prices on Poshmark, eBay, and Mercari. It's also an inconsistency with sales - I had five sales a few days ago and since then, nothing. So I am going to discount per your recommendation and see what happens. Inventory rich, cash poor - THAT'S ME! I am so appreciative of your advice, thanks!

Yes, lose the excuses and make it happen. Too much complaining and not enough getting it done is what I see. I sell used clothing on ebay and have been for 15 years. I don't see much of a difference in sales and I'm not selling anything amazing. I don't panic over every single change that happens. I roll with the punches and improvise.

I have an "everything" replenishable ebay store with thousands of different products and I regret not just going with one or two niches. Mainly because I've realised that none of these platforms can be trusted and the only way to ever turn this into a real business (with an exit strategy) is to start and promote my own stores on my own domains. But "everything" type ecommerce stores are directly competing with the likes of Amazon and it's much easier to start and promote ecommerce stores in smaller niches.

I'm happy to buy all your baby Jordans for what you paid for them. They obviously don't sell quickly and you should liquidate them...to me...at cost :) In all seriousness you're right about narrowing sourcing down to what sells the fastest. Everyone worries too much about ASP and profit per pair. Sell through rate is so much more important especially if you're starting out.

More of “Anything” than “Everything” seller… maybe that term would be better? I take no offense on either term. As anything/everything, I do leave money on the table, but I think I re-coop it knowing approximate comps and when to not take too much time on nothing or lesser items… Kenny Roger’s, know when to fold ‘em! Thanks for the lessons!

If you have an eBay store of only 100 perfectly listed iPads, priced below market value, how quickly do you think they will sell? In other words, does the total number of listings still have an impact on how much daily traffic you get no matter the quality of item? Would Cassini allow for the selling of all 100 in a day if the demand was there?
