Lagos Residents Lament Surge In Rents

The rising cost of living across the nation due to the removal of subsidies on petrol and electricity, as well as the recent scarcity of petrol has become an issue of concern among many Nigerians.
In Nigeria’s commercial city of Lagos, residents are lamenting the increase in cost of house which has forced many to relocate to more affordable areas.
With the increase being effected on a regular bases on properties across the state, residents are urging the state government to intervene in order to reduce the high cost of living, which is negatively impacting on citizens' livelihoods.
For new developers, the cost of building materials justifies the need to increase prices of rental apartments to enable them remain in business, while existing house owners say renovating houses to meet with the taste of the 21st century tenant is expensive, hence the increase in rents.
