This was a great version of this song. My favorite part of your reaction was when Miku did her little half whispered part leading into last chorus. Miku is truly the embodiment of Kawaii! Where Kanami (lead guitar) is the instrumental genius of the band, Miku is, not only the lyrical genius, but is the heart of the band. I mean, the band was her vision to begin with. But words truly can't do justice as to how adorable she is. You're spot on about how most people would react to them initially. The super cute look is so disarming that when that opening riff kicks you tin the teeth, it does so way harder as a result which is where you end up begging for more.
hehe. Well, you have reacted to three now and time to know who is who. There may be a test next time! :P Welcome to your journey down the pigeon hole. I prepared this little guide to help you handle the adventure you are about to embark on. Once upon a time in Japan.... Miku (Who is a 300+ year old pigeon... long story) was in a short lived "idol" band in Japan and ended up working in a "Maid Cafe". She came up with idea to create a rocking band in maid costumes. A "Gap" as its called in appearance to action. Miku found singer/songwriter Kaname (Lead Guitar and main Composer), who knew Akane - AKA "The Gorilla - she likes bananas a lot! (drums - Jazz and Classically Trained), who knew Misa - AKA the "Barefoot Assassin" (Bass, Jazz and Classically trained). [Grab a post-it now and paste to your desk - Miku (B/U and Rhythm,) Kaname (Lead) Akane (Drums) Misu (Bass) Saiki (Vocals)] Putting it together... It became apparent Mikus voice wasn't really suited to the style and so they decided to go find Lead Vocals and brought in Saiki. This basically put Miku out of a job in the band she created, but instead she adapted and Kaname started teaching her guitar. That's right. She couldn't even play in the first video they did 6 years ago. Now she has a 70-80s style aggressive punk style attack on rhythm and Kaname is constantly expanding her guitar parts in challenging ways. All while singing backup. Personally, I never could sing and play ha-ha Their first actual song they wrote and recorded was "Alone". They have changed label since and have joined a new one now for the new album going into 2021. Their look, songs, style etc. are their own. Not studio directed. Pretty cool these days. Note: Miku is the main lyricist and writes in heavy metaphors that can be interpreted many ways and often confusing in translation. So, they often add parts that audiences of any language can sing along. P.S. Please do not compare BAND-MAID to Baby Metal please. Its makes the Maidiacs very sad ;) Miku was asked one time about it. "We play our own instruments" was her short and simple answer. See ya next time peace
BAND-MAID just has so many catchy songs. They are perfectionists and they will never settle for average on any song. Their new album will drop in a few weeks and it’s gonna be mind blowing. If you want to watch a battle between the bassist Misa and the guitarist Kanomi then you need to check out Dont You Tell Me (live version). Fate is another song that’s a must ..
MISA MISA MISA! Sai-chan doing her Miku impression (giving the Bird) 1:38 and the Fated meeting between the Barefoot Contessa and the Barefoot Assassin 4:21
There is no doubt about it, Band-Maid and Nightwish, the two best live groups to ever grace the stage. These girls bring it so hard that they have all other hard-rock bands from the last 40 years quaking in their boots. Awesome reaction Jen! Onset next?
Such a joy to see you react like this we have all been there welcome to the family they truly are the greatest rock band to date try rinne ,blooming ,after life be well
Well its rinne so took care of that I can't but someone out there might get you the video of puzzle acoustic live then you will see what the greatest. rock band is capable of they are absolutely the best
I've never heard of them before are they Japanese I'm guessing? I can't understand what the singer is singing about but they sound pretty cool damn this has really got my pumped to start my own band which I have been saying for decades now very cool guitar solo man my mind was blown away ok I gotta practice my guitar more for hours I don't care what the recommended practice time is per day
The best hard Rock band in the world right now and have been together since 2013. I've seen them in concert twice here in LA and they are Badass. Most of us Band-Maidiacs don't worry about the language but B-M has add more English to their songs in the last few years.
They were going to play Inkcarceration Festival in OH in 2020 until ‘rona cancelled it. ☹️☹️ Best thing about this band, beyond their phenomenal playing abilities, is their camaraderie and joy of playing together on stage. As hard as it’s been without live music this year, I think it’s been even harder for them. Saiki, especially, really seems to feed off the energy of the crowd. Akane is the world’s happiest drummer. She’s always smiling or making funny faces, but she never misses a beat!
MISA!!! MISA!!! MISA!!! 🥃🥃🥃 A good live version of this song. The Tsunami Kanami is on 🔥🔥🔥 you got to see MISA crack a smile next to Saiki which is a very site on stage. B-M was supposed to be at Incarceration Festival in Ohio back in July 2020 and play on Sunday The same day as Blink-182. It would have been B-M 1st outdoor festival in the US. ☹ fate had stepped in the way
You just described my first Band Maid show in Los Angeles horse voice sore body and had to wear a walking boot because I nearly tore my Achilles tendon and limped for the next 6 months from rocking out too hard. .......I would do it all over again and then two more times
Hello.....Im 63 and I jumped on a plane to LA and went and saw our girls on 8/23. The whole experience mad feel like I was 18 again !!!! Absolutely the BEST concert I have ever seen and I have seen some of the best!!!!!! Baid Maid is a must bucket list band. My next stop will be seeing them in Japan......I think that it would be a thrill !!!!
If these ladies come to Ohio, I'll be there too! MISA's bass tone is so great that I switched my amps away from Fender to Orange and have noticed a huge improvement.
To your comments on not expecting this out of a group dressed in MAID outfits. - BAND MAID calls it THE GAP! there's a gap between how someone appears and what they do, it draws attention. Some people find it attractive. Miku has said that was what she was going for. I've seen all your reactions but it's fun to watch you over and over. You are truly a MAIDIAC!!!
I think 'Real Existence' is a good title to highlight the one who usually gets a little short in the comments about this band. Miku Kobato (2nd vocalist and lead-guitar). We can't be thankful enough to this little pigeon for coming up with the idea for this band and working so hard for it. Without her there would be 'no existence' of Band-Maid. 🤘🕊🤘
Band-Maid is just an amazing band. You might want to check out "RINNE" MV for another heavy banger of a song. Thanks for your great reactions Jen. Always enjoyable.
I remember watching this Song for the First Time. The Official video. I was like Oh its a Typical Japanese Girl Band Punk Song Nothing Special. And then Kanami Hit me with these Guitar Solo s i was like wait a minute they are actually talented musicians. After that i saw Thrill and Alone and Before Yesterday and then i was a Fan after just 4 Songs.
Onset. Its a live instrumental. You want the ladies on instruments to shine. This will leave you with your jaw on the floor. Kanami is incredible here..Puzzle is so good, great guitar riffs, again Kanami is incredible. Rinne, a much harder song.
Great truth, a book is not judged only by the cover, and Japanese bands are no longer the cover of rock, but are the valuable content, great video reaction, If I may I would recommend another great all female band the Lovebites with "Swan Song"
You need to check out a video of "Omajinai Time." It's not a song, but a thing Miku (rhythm guitarist and founder) does at every show. And it's hilarious too, because it's mostly men in the audience who are these legit rockers, and they're all having a sort of kawaii (cute) time with her. They only understand about half of what she's saying, so it turns into this crazy "repeat after me" thing of awkward fun. It's really something you have to see to understand. But regardless, everyone seems to love it.
You're spoiling us, Jen! Thanks! Awesome reaction as always! Here's a treat - Just released today and not sure how long it'll stay up but Band-Maid appeared on NHK Tokyo TV for a 3 minute interview and then a live rendition of 'After Life', a track from the new album being released next week. There are English subtitles through it all, both the interview and performance. Enjoy! ua-cam.com/video/XEzqkU8Zako/v-deo.html . PS Best reaction to Band-Maid EVER! Gave me chills seeing you feel that same joy and awe I get whenever I watch THE best live Rock band on Earth. Great description of how you'd be after one of their gigs! Hopefully, you'll get to see them live. Hopefully, we all will. Also, try the instrumental 'Onset' live - ua-cam.com/video/mVrN-j_Uc0U/v-deo.html . Oh, there's Babymetal too? You really are spoiling us!
Hell yeah. Come to Ohio. To bad that you can no longer experience the ultimate guitar and bass duel "Don't You Tell Me". Misa and Kanami take serious shots back and forth. Unfortunately it's been pulled from UA-cam. If nothing else check out some of the reactions to it there are some fun reactions for this amazing performance.
Saiki lost her shoes in the previous song and is having fun with it with the barefoot Assassin, Misa! This band just brings joy and fun when they play! And excellence! Akane is the happiest drummer on the planet, and one of the best! Kanami is a shredder Supreme!
Some other all-female rock bands: Lovebites (metal with two lead guitars); Aldious (metal); Doll$boxx; Paranoid Void (math rock); Otoboke Beaver (hardcore punk)
I've seen them a few times, always in small venues, and believe me, you don't need any Lazers, they are amazing just naturally. I don't like being around people at all, but I toughed it out in line and waiting for the band to start, and I just had the best of times, in spite of the interaction of humans
When you handle "Band-Maid", their fans from all over the world gather like moths swarming on street lights. They make jokes and give lectures about Band-Maid. I have a big net and collect those guys (LOL).

Yeah Akane is the best! Her smile always makes everyone smile. I wish she received more camera time. This was one or the first songs I heard from them and is still one of my favorites. Along with about 90+ others. 😂 Is this your 3rd song? If you keep reacting to them you will be blown away by how diverse they are. Probably why I put them in my list of favorites!
I'm waiting for the 3rd "Freedom". The one where Akane, Kanami & Miku all play awesome solos, Saiki falls into the crowd & loses her heels & MISA finishes the song :)
They can go much harder 😉 If you really wanna go crazy i suggest "Onset", it´s for sure something you never heard or never seen before. It´s not THAT heavy, but the structure, how they are able to play and that every member can shine in this song is totally unique. Have a good start into the week everybody and stay healthy. Greetings from Germany
I'm still in awe of Kanami. This is a young lady that when she doesn't have a guitar in her hands she is the stereotypical shy, cover her mouth when laughing, Japanese girl. But you put that instrument in her hands and she transforms into a rock goddess that shreds the faces of everyone in the audience. There's one video where during an intermission she asks Saiki for a hug. She loves Saiki so much, when Saiki said yes, she was bouncing like a schoolgirl. It was so cute, but then Miku had to pull her off Saiki, she wouldn't let go.😂🤣😂🤣
I was so disappointed when COVID hit, They were supposed to play at Inkcarceration Fest in Mansfield Oh. July 12, 2020. I was heartbroken, I was lucky enough to discover them late in 2019, welcome to the Band Maidiacs...if you like power metal, try Lovebites, they are all Japanese female band too, I recommend "Hammer of Wrath" live...you'll be shocked by them too, guaranteed!
Check out some of their earlier stuff. Try "Don't let me down" it's in english, although Saiki's accent it somewhat thick, lol, it's a bit of a naughty song for such innocent looking ladies, but I believe you'll like it. Enjoy!
Take a look at Lovebites "When Destinies Align" or "Swan Song" live at Zepp DiverCity Tokyo 2020. And there is much more. This Girls are awesome! Band Maid & Lovebites are one of my Favorite Bands from Japan!
Band-Maid was supposed to play at Inkarceration in Mansfield last summer.....COVID killed that..... BTW, what you described at 6:36 is exactly the effect that the band was going for. They even have a term for it. It's called "The Gap". It's the mental dissonance you experience from seeing them on stage and expecting one thing and then hearing something you TOTALLY didn't expect.
Time for a dual Reaction! My picks are Puzzle "Live" and Puzzle "Acoustic" (PS. Hard to find!) Two sides of the same coin, in 2 different song structures... The gang below will add on to the long lists and its links....... Stay Safe ya!!
Hi Jen. Thank you for the vivid reaction. I can’t agree with you more. How about picking up [bubble] as next one. I have no doubt you’ll like it . They seem to tribute it for Freddie Mercury I guess . And this song never gets old in me .

Thank you for reacting to the BAND-MAID song. There are other bands in Japan that play great music. I recommend "Wagakki Band". The Wagakki Band has brought a new personality to the music world through the collaboration of Western music and Japanese musical instruments. It will hit you with a flood of sounds like a tornado of 2600 years of Japanese history, culture and beautiful music. ua-cam.com/video/K_xTet06SUo/v-deo.html
Their image and individual stage personalities seem to have been well planned from the beginning. This was a band that was built from the ground up because they wanted to be good and be famous around the World, I have listened to all their albums and cannot remember a weak track on any of them. They still want to learn and are teaching each other. But their reactions to fans and to each other just makes me want to smile all the time. They are a delight and a breath of fresh air. They call it the 'Gap' when people fist see them. The gap between image and sound. To look that relaxed, sound that good and appear comfortable around each other takes phenomenal work.
The reason for the impromptu on stage playful interaction between bass player Misa and lead singer Saiki seems to stem from the fact that for the first half of this performance of Real Existence Saiki is singing bare foot. This came about because during the previous song (Freedom) Saiki went into a female only section of the audience and was temporarily 'kidnapped' and in the process lost her high heels. Miku ended up finishing the vocals for that song. Saiki went up to Misa because Misa was also barefoot as traditionally Misa plays bass guitar barefoot during live performances. If you watch carefully, after the instrumental section Saiki is once again wearing her heels.
You will come back sore because they will be hitting you from the first song to the end of a 2 hour concert!!!! I am going to start eating more ramen, Kaiten Sushi and soba! That has to be where their energy comes from. They make faces at each other through the whole concert. It is some kind of game with them. Thrashing women that make you happy! Band Maid calls it the GAP! A gap between how someone appears and what they do, it draws attention. Miku has said that was what she was going for. The talent is dripping of the stage with these ladies.
Japan seem to be producing happy drummers and bassists, and it just WRONG, we are not supose to feel like smiling when we hear music :) For a happy drummer and bassist check out "Nemophila - Oiran" or thier cover "Minions/Banana Song"
Hii Jen, if you like crazy guitar solo's checkout LOVEBITES all Japanese female Heavy Metal Band live at Zepp DiverCity Tokyo 2020, all songs are in English...check they play songs Raise Some Hell/Holy War..
I have something else to suggest to you about Band-Maid. But you might not like the fantastic scenery of Kyoto's historic Geisha district. Maybe Band-Maid dressed in Maiko (apprentice Geisha) would not please you. There are also these traditional instruments mixed with electric instruments (it's so beautiful) there are chances that you won't like it. The song was specially written for this MV (I love this song so much ..) No .. finally I don't suggest you the song Gion Cho ua-cam.com/video/umSt7oMUMcs/v-deo.html You won't like that ..

Personally, I never could sing and play ha-ha
Their first actual song they wrote and recorded was "Alone".
Its makes the Maidiacs very sad ;)
Miku was asked one time about it. "We play our own instruments" was her short and simple answer.
See ya next time
peace
BAND-MAID just has so many catchy songs. They are perfectionists and they will never settle for average on any song. Their new album will drop in a few weeks and it’s gonna be mind blowing. If you want to watch a battle between the bassist Misa and the guitarist Kanomi then you need to check out Dont You Tell Me (live version). Fate is another song that’s a must ..
Brand new Band-Maid video just dropped 45 minutes ago - “Manners” - I think it’s safe to say that you are going to love it!
MISA MISA MISA! Sai-chan doing her Miku impression (giving the Bird) 1:38 and the Fated meeting between the Barefoot Contessa and the Barefoot Assassin 4:21
Yeah...It's hilarious how Saiki lost her shoes in the song before this one. Misa was making fun of her for it I would bet.
@@yolandria yup while Sai-chan couldn't kick her
There is no doubt about it, Band-Maid and Nightwish, the two best live groups to ever grace the stage. These girls bring it so hard that they have all other hard-rock bands from the last 40 years quaking in their boots. Awesome reaction Jen! Onset next?
💯
Amazing video
Keep up the great vids 😁
Thanks my dear friend
😁❤️
The contrast between their image and their song is called The Gap. Don't fool with appearance, coz they gonna blow your mind with their music
Great reaction, heartfelt and genuine... can't wait to see your face when you react to Rinne.
I never would have thought that I would absolutely love a Japanese rock band 😲 l have the same reaction you do ❤️
Aren’t they great, Carol?! I absolutely love them!!!
I've never heard of them before are they Japanese I'm guessing? I can't understand what the singer is singing about but they sound pretty cool damn this has really got my pumped to start my own band which I have been saying for decades now very cool guitar solo man my mind was blown away ok I gotta practice my guitar more for hours I don't care what the recommended practice time is per day
5 Japanese ladies that will rock your world!

The best hard Rock band in the world right now and have been together since 2013. I've seen them in concert twice here in LA and they are Badass. Most of us Band-Maidiacs don't worry about the language but B-M has add more English to their songs in the last few years.
@@curtisrrobles7885 cool very cool
@@ronjohnson2193 ok cool I'll check them out thanks
They were going to play Inkcarceration Festival in OH in 2020 until ‘rona cancelled it. ☹️☹️
Best thing about this band, beyond their phenomenal playing abilities, is their camaraderie and joy of playing together on stage.
B-M was supposed to be at Incarceration Festival in Ohio back in July 2020 and play on Sunday
The same day as Blink-182. It would have been B-M 1st outdoor festival in the US. ☹ fate had stepped in the way
No pun intended with "Fate"?

Don't You Tell Me live . There is a fantastic call and response between MISA-Base and Kanami- lead guitar. Epic.
Oh sweet! Maybe I’ll see ya there!!! Where at in Ohio?
@@JustJenRx, I'm in Greene County., fairly close to Clark County.

@@JustJenRx Can't wait! Especially Band-Maid - live and MV's are nearly all excellent.
OMG! is Right!
I love the massive smile on Misas face when Saiki hugs her.
Oh how neat! I hope they come this year!

One reviewer called Akane, The Happiest Drummer On Earth ! Even Misa the bassist was smiling, rare.
They are awesome!! If you want to really hear how good Akane is on drums, try “Rinne”.
Oddly enough... they were scheduled to play in Ohio at 2020 inkarceration... but Covid happened.
I'm waiting for the 3rd "Freedom". The one where Akane, Kanami & Miku all play awesome solos, Saiki falls into the crowd & loses her heels & MISA finishes the song :)

@@yolandria No that's the 1st version. This is the 3rd version they haven't done yet :)
Saiki begins singing barefoot because she lost one of her heels. During guitar solo, she regains her heels and finally puts on her heels.
On my list already 😉
Hey Jen great News Band Maid just dropped a New Video called Manners
That difference between what you expect and what you get is what they call "The Gap" and is part of Miku's original idea of maids just rocking. :)
It was so cute, but then Miku had to pull her off Saiki, she wouldn't let go.😂🤣😂🤣
She also has a university degree in economics.
they released their second number of their new album unseen world (20-1) an hour ago manners check it out jen
Hard to find!)
Two sides of the same coin, in 2 different song structures...
The gang below will add on to the long lists and its links.......
Stay Safe ya!!

😬
BAND-MAID is 500 lbs of badass.
"There is no life without music." - Haruna Ono, SCANDAL, Standard (...for the record, Haruna and Akane are good friends and shopping buddies.)
They were going to be at a tattoo and music fest in Ohio but yeah. Corona. Hopefully it'll happen again.

Whatever you do in life .. there is always a young japanese woman that will do it better. Count on it.
Lol truth!!!
