BAND-MAID ROCKS!!! They call MISA the Barefoot assassin but it you look closely you will see Saiki is barefoot as well during Real Existence at the show. The song just before was Freedom and she had gone into the crowd and lost her shoes (she got them back later).
Great review. I saw a video of them laughing and practicing where the lead guitar would start a riff and the drummer set a drum line. The bass player would come in with a bass line and they were all blindfolded. They are amazing.
No delay effect used in the verse of Onset, lead guitarist Kanami plays every single note you hear. Some BAND-MAID songs are so packed with ideas riffs verse change-ups with perfectly meshed instrumentation of all musicians that if they simply extended these individual parts of the songs it would be considered prog.
@@billrand4138 If you watch the Onset Instrumental Blu-Ray version from the limited editon of Conqueror you can see that she plays every note. There is a version solely showing Kanami playing
MISA MISA MISA! Sai-chan doing her Miku impression (giving the Bird) 1:37 and the Fated meeting between the Barefoot Contessa and the Barefoot Assassin 3:20
One brilliant aspect of Kanami's song compositions is that she provides a spotlight on each member without being intrusive on the song. She also is able to place several genres in a single song that would not work with most bands, but with this band is effortlessly and is remarkable. And every song leaves you wanting more.
9:00 Not sure if you're talking about what i'm thinking, but there's a part where Kanami picks all the note and make it sound like a delay but it's not, which is really cool.
Great reaction. Kanami is an absolute genius. Her composition is out of this world. So talented. I agree with you and that's my only gripe about "onset" that it was too short. That instrumental will be a classic years from now.

Play and Freedom live are not to be missed! Band-Maid is one of the rare bands that really is better live in most cases! These ladies rock and roll so well! To be this good and have so much fun doing it! Best rock band on the planet at the moment!
Misa put the pick between her index and thumb and then folds the pick into her index finger while slapping with her other three fingers. She says that anyone can do it with practice. She doesn't think that it is a very big deal - to me it is absolutely fantastic. I do not know of many other bassists who can or will do that.
I can't even bend my index finger that much :D There is definitely some evidence that she might be an alien. Unlike the rest of the band, she does not listen to the click track. Instead, she performs barefoot, to "feel the kick drum" from the floor. What in the fuck does that even mean...
Correct me if im Wrong but isn't Kanami doing the same thing for her tapping? It looks like she is just using middle, ring and little finger on her right hand? Not a musician so not sure.
Enjoyable, clever, tight, fun, .... let's add 'adorable' to the list and we have the perfect short description for 'Band-Maid'. 😅 With 'Freedom' you will definitely have fun. What Akane does with her relatively small or basic drum kit is just great. Like everyone in this band she knows exactly what to use when and where to add that certain something to a song.
The smile you had throughout was exactly the same I had when I first watched this. There’s honestly nothing more more amazing than watching a group of musicians jamming out a beautifully crafted instrumental, with smiles on their faces as they vibe along to the beat. Its unfortunate that live instrumental music is such a niche. The only ones I see that these days are in Jazz fusion bands and orchestras. Its a unicorn in rock/metal.
A bit of context (for those unaware): Real Existence is ~ 2 hr mark of the concert; Saiki got lost in the crowd in the song before - along with her shoes (Miku sang the last verse). Being B-M, they immediately jumped into RE: Saiki is barefoot for the majority of it (I like to think that's a reason for the interplay with Misa); she puts her shoes back on during Kanami's solo (mebbe why they smiled at each other at its end?). Anyways, loved your reactions. Keep it up!
I live in hope that when the world gets back to some kind of normal the rest of the world will catch up and realize just how GREAT this band is !!! Excellent reaction mate, keep `em coming.

Look at Akane drum when she play it, i notice she play very difference by holding the drum stick and some she hold it with her finger not holding it firm if u see all MV. She is a top class drummer.
Mr. Thomas, there are so many so-called Maidiacs out there who had the same first impression as you. And after they experienced the live video for a few songs, they fell down the rabbit hole. lol
You might want to check out the song "Play" live.. Play was their original onset but Saiki loved it so much that she convinced Miku to work with her to add lyrics to it, so Onset became the song "Play".. Konami had to write this to be their new Onset.. But, this is so good, I wonder how long it takes before they decide to add lyrics to this as well...
Yes The Maids are truly gifted musicians but the highlight is Kanami’s songwriting, playing and group stage presence is what make the difference between a good show and great show. Regarding song length, yes that’s true but consider their catalogue. It will be about 100 next week with the release of Unseen World. Every fan has a favourite. There were playing about 23 songs, about a third of their catalogue 3 years ago (April 18) in a 2 hour plus show. Many great bands do play longer but for a drummer going at Akane’s pace virtually continually it’s still great job. 3 hour shows are a rarity for small gigs. 1000 maybe?
