I think people forget that Taiwan legally belongs to China. In 1895 China lost a war with Japan and Taiwan was ceded to Japan by China in Treaty of Shimonoseki. After World War II. Japan lost and the Treaty of Shimonoseki was reversed by, The Sino-Japanese Peace Treaty. Chiang kai shek's ROC government who was consider to be the legal government of China at the time represented China in accepting Taiwan back for China. It is one of the best legal claim a country have over a territory in world history. However today the legal government of China is the PRC. I am not advocating war but people should remember this legal fact as a starting point to negotiations. The only way out is to negotiate, negotiate, negotiate before it is too late.

Because people like me have their family in both “regions”, it becomes impossible to force them giving up all their possessions and family in neither sides, and all I want is the peaceful reunion, which is definitely the best result for Taiwanese. Maybe someday when president xi steps down, the tension between the us and china can be mitigated and by that time, the reunion will be appreciated by all three sides.

Maybe next leader will become more open to the democracy under the influence of newer generation.
