    First, I started watching at your current van build an I just loved the arctic series with it. Your banter is just a delight to watch and seeing the lovely places you visit is loads of fun. Now, I have a question for your working on UA-cam video. I have always wanted to know, if you can tell us, what does one advertisement earn you? Not, how much you made from advertising over the year or month, but what did company X pay you for that ONE UA-cam video? My next question would be, do you talk to other UA-camrs about what they make from advertisers? Are you even allowed to talk about this or is it in the contract that you cannot disclose the revenue? Thank you for the fun video watches and keep them coming!

    On top, I have a few tools myself ( an euphemism, of course ) only four welding machines, for instance,( but in the process of acquiring at least two more this autumn, a good MIG and, for sure, a very good TIG. My wife knows nothing).
    I counted my spanner sets, Jon wins, I only have eight, or so. 🙂
    And I can go on like this for hours, but I will spare you..
    Your videos are very useful even to people ho have some previous DIY experience.

    Hello travellers! Nice content from your "artic" odyssey.
    I have some tips regarding tyres.
    It's not so straightforward actually. In Norway and in parts of Sweden there are area's where a studded tyer is the best and safest option. Especially if you are not used to winter roads. But you are actually not allowed to use them everywhere in some cities in Sweden. When you travel in the northern part of Norway, Sweden and Finland and in the inner parts of Sweden and Finland you actually can do with a regular tyre as long as the temperature stays below -9 celcius. Your choice of the all terain tyer is basically useless other than when you drive in snowy untouched roads if the temperature goes above -5 celcius.
    The best choice is a friction compound tyre. It will work even on ice. Almost as good as a studded tyre. and it is not prohibited anywhere.

    • @truebluetravellers
      @truebluetravellers  10 місяців тому

      Thanks for the info mate, we never noticed the signs until we got to Helsinki where we saw no studded tyre signs, we didn’t realise so many other places didn’t allow them 👍

    Fantastic part of the world and been there many times with work. Many of the towns you mentioned such as Saariselkä, ivalo, Rovaniemi, Lulea, Arjeplog + others, are used by the motor industry this time of the year for cold climate testing. We also hire a lake away from eyes and cameras, for early sensitive prototype vehicles. You may of seen some test cars which are camouflaged and normally in a convoy with support vehicles close by. As well as motor companies testing there are many of the tyre companies out there testing..... FYI, although at hand, we always uses winter tyres and not studded!! sorry adds to your arguments. Looking forward to the next trip!! keep up the great work. FYI and diesel you brought back either in the tank, or in jerry cans its worth using it rather than holding onto it there are so many additives in it because of the cold and doesn't keep!

    anothe reason why its important to wear the correct goggles it to prevent your eyes getting damaged by the UV light.Even though the light intensity may seem ok the uv rays are also reflected from the snowy surroundings. In servere cases the eyes may start to feel gritty and has the potental to damage the cornea. In the same way as welders wear dark glasses not only to shield their eyes from the bright light . That is why welders can get ARC eyes which is also caused by UV rays.
    Thanks for a brilliant series and as a side the correct way to put the toilet roll onto the holder Cheers for now and look forward to the next video

    Very useful information. As someone experienced with using winter tyres, the one piece of advice that I will give is to never buy second hand winter tyres that are over 3 years old. Winter tyres, especially those designed for both snow and ice, are softer than normal tyres and as we all know, rubber hardens over time. Winter tyres will harden sufficiently within 3 years that they greatly lose their effectiveness. Regardless of the amount of tread on the tyres, I always change after 3 years. It is similar in a way to the common sense 'rule' of changing caravan and trailer tyres at around the 7 year mark, regardless of the amount of tread. Different circumstances, but it is the 'nature of the beast' part that is the point.

      @truebluetravellers  10 місяців тому +1

      Yeah a few people have said that too, I think if you live there this is a brilliant way to do it, problem for people coming over like us is it’s say £1000 for maybe a couple of weeks travel to not be able to use the tyres anywhere else, would be good to see how much rental would be 😁👍

    Love the openness about everything, very useful for people who actaully plan to travel! Jon I'm surprised that you haven't really worn a snood before being into bikes! I wear one most of the year but I do ride all year all weather. After all the standard safety gubbins it's probably my top rated bit of riding kit. I even wear a thin one in the summer if it's not too hot to stop my neck getting burnt (gingers and the sun have a troubled relationship 😂)

    Glad you're both back, safe and well. I worked out your MPG's with your total miles with the costs and it works out 23 MPG's. That's going off the average cost of a litre of diesel being, £1.50.

    • @truebluetravellers
      @truebluetravellers  10 місяців тому +1

      Yeah we were going to try and work out the mpg but with the diesel heater and the pre heater also running off the main tank, so yeah probably 23-25 maybe 👍👍

    • @dave6445
      @dave6445 10 місяців тому

      Perhaps if you hadn't used the heater, not that you couldn't, 😀 in different circumstances maybe 27-28 mpg's. It's still good at 23, fully laden too, don't forget! Box on wheels isn't the most aerodynamic, 😀. I'd call it a win!@@truebluetravellers
