Kathy, Here in SE Ohio, we grew up eating fried mush which is cooked cornmeal that you let get cold and set up then you slice off pieces and fry it. So good!! ❤

Kathy, would you consider doing a video showing how to make caramel apples (the easy way!)? I want to try some for my grandchildren but all the recipes I've found are so complicated. I'm a shortcut kind of girl.

Kathy, you are such a gift to all of us and especially to all of us in the Wiregrass, whose mothers and grandmothers cooked this way. All we need is some blackeyed peas ! Thank you so much !!

I am amazed at the different variations of this wonderful staple that I grew up enjoying. My parents were from Alabama and Arkansas, but we made what my Mom called "hot water corncakes". The cornmeal is partially cooked with boiling water, made into a stiff dough, and formed into patties about 1/2 to 3/4 inches thick. I still make these regularly and am eager to try your method. I think they are all good, similar but different. I read all sorts of recipes, some using baking powder, etc. Just cornmeal, salt, and water is the best. Thanks for sharing and I look forward to more of your videos. Tom in Texas

As a child, my mama made lacy cornbread and I dipped them in ketchup. Delicious!

@@kathyssouthernkitchen302 thank you for this clear demonstration/recipe. Mine never turns out. I think it's because I'm not using a fine cornmeal. Got to look for some. I'm assuming it's not self-rising like a cornmeal mix.

Different recipes say you need to use really cold water and others say you need to use really hot water for the fried cornbread, do you use one for the Lacy ??

Have lived in Alabama my whole life. Never had a restaurant serve fried cornbread as a complimentary bread on the table and I have been to many meat and threes. Nor have I ever seen extra fine cornmeal sold in stores.

Bless your sweet little ❤️. You need to come to Dothan! Zack's, Charlotte's Kitchen, The Blue Plate, MeMe’s Kitchen and so many more serve fried bread with your meal. It's a staple in our area❤️

All the country cooking establishments serve fried cornbread in baskets prior to the meal. It’s like an appetizer here. We are fortunate that several grocery stores sell the extra fine cornmeal from local mills. I have friends who have moved away ask me to send them cornmeal. I live in southeast Alabama 😊
