Good life lesson in this video that we can all take away. “There’s always someone with a bigger boat” stay humble
Thought the same, on my friends boat which I thought was a big vessel, but same thing happened many times, some very big vessels cruising these locations.
My wifes boyfriend told me the same but I don't even own a boat so the joke is on him
Yea true. I've no need for a superyacht, Public Urinals keep me humble
True
@@christopherpope1800 😂
As a retired Boeing 747 captain I have to say that was a thing of beauty! That is an art form that few can appreciate. Well done captain and crew!!!
Can we all just take a moment to appreciate the one-legged dock hand riding a damn bike
Respect
He's been in Portofino for years and is a legend in the RIBS. He's almost iconic to the town i'd say.
As owner of a Rodman 38 I am in awe of your berthing skills. I get nervous with my tiny boat on the Hamble, can’t imagine the pressures of berthing AWOL! Great to see the teamwork in action. Vote submitted. Great vids. Thank you.
I have been binge watching this week and the video production quality has increased greatly since the early vlogs. As Tristan says, always learning, always improving...
This was the best docking video so far! The drone footage was a big help in showing what was going on! I also enjoyed all the explanations by Barbara. All of the different cameras and explanations made a great video.
🤣🤣
I do enjoy watching the teamwork as you slip in and out of those tight spaces. The camaraderie of the staff makes your videos fun to watch, and I imagine, the work more pleasant! What an enchanting city. Beautiful!
Lovely job skip. Much better with the multiple camera angles and the drone footage is spectacular, congrats all.
Thats why he is paid the big bucks 😁
That was hilarious when he contacted the Marina and started speaking English with an Italian accent, reminded me of An Italian man went to Malta
I am a British expat and have lived in Italy for 17 years. I find that if I pronounce English words with an Italian accent I am much more easily understood.
Very beautiful views of docking AWOL. What a professional captain and crew. Once again the drone view brought the whole sequence together. A plus video!
Beautiful Captain maneuver !! Of course I voted as each time for the "AWOL" and his super crew
It only allowed me to vote once :(
I have watched this video video several times and still amazed as to how Tristan turns AWOL like he does. Experienced captain.
Spectacular... simply spectacular docking. This why I love watching this channel and the entire crew aboard AWOL.
What an absolutely stunning little port! Nice job Captain and Crew getting AWOL into her berth! Cheers Guys! 👍😎
Jealous at the beautiful places they get to see..awesome..the reward for their work, is to enjoy the beautiful places they travel to.
The Wedge Too...65m, 17 year old Phillipe Starck designed Feadship - I love it.... Looks MASSIVE next to Awol !!
работа профессионала всегда вызывает уважение.неважно ,он плотник,водитель,кузнец или летчик.прекрасная работа
Thanks very much for this one AWOL crew. I miss that beautiful port - been a long time. Interesting, I’ve always backed all the way in. I thought I heard the Capitanerie call for a port hook and I was thinking ‘no, that’s wrong, the crew have it right’. But the Portofino marineros know that bottom, yeah? Never once had to have a diver to get out. Well done guys!
Really great coverage! The combination of on-board views with the overhead view gives a very clear visual explanation of exactly what is going on. Gave the feeling of being there. Hope you continue to use this technique in future projects. Well done!
Another great video Captain. Loved that the crew explained what they were doing and why.
Always waiting impatiently for the next one!!
You got my vote AWOL, the drone pilot also deserves credit, awesome video and team work.
Excellent boat skills and calm, slow and collected as it should be,
Remember: always approach a dock at the speed your prepared to hit it at and there’s always someone with a bigger one! ⛵💨
The casual cyclist that assists with the rope on the jetty , and then just cycles away is amazing , what a life !
nice docking but what got my admiration was the guy mooring your ropes on the quayside with one leg, job done then he hops on his bike awsome.
Tristan you’re the man. You seem like a good dude to just chill with even.
Fantastic job! Barbara is awesome in explaining what's going on forward. Drone ending was terrific! You must be looking directly into the windows of your neighbors - so close!
AWOL is a Toy compared to Wedge Too at 65m! But, hey AWOL is super nice. Great job Tristan and crew. The drone gives a great perspective of Portofino and the cramped space to dock. Love your work and always look forward to your videos.
Spectacular moves! Best docking video by far! Nice work captain and crew!
That was one of the best videos you have done. Just a beautiful place and great shots. Thank you sir for sharing that with us.
Nice job captain. No rush, no fuss just professional. Andy UK
I have to say that you & the crew operate like the mechanism of a fine Swiss watch. Great viewing as always.
Green with envy Tristan... :) What a great life... Thanks for sharing this one; really nice to see Portofino via drone... Well done team, great job...
Love the drone footage! That’s a narrow gap, really puts Wedge Too’s size in perspective
😇🙏😎
@@SuperYachtCaptain Who is the WEDGE TOO? Owner
Found it lol It's owned by A Lebanese Billionaire Issam michael Fares.
Agree! Here I am watching a video of what I thought was a superyacht then I see that freiking ocean liner he was parking next to. WAY too much wealth out there, unreal how big they get. Too think What I saw at Newport harbor was big is nothing compared to other world destinations.
Very skilful docking in a tight space .. the overhead shots were super!
That was AWESOME. The drone really added to showing the complexity (for a landlubber who has only spent time on fireworks barges) of that maneuver. Laughed when the 2nd line was tossed to shore and it landed perfectly. Guy must play horseshoes professionally. :) Every video it gets better and better. Adding in the rest of the crew has really brought your channel to new heights.
Well done captain. Yes tiny space but lack of streams and winds, so the manoeuvring is nice and easy.
Your best video yet Tristan.. fantastic footage in a beautiful setting... you are living the dream thanks for sharing your life with us 👍
Captain you make that look easy. You and your crew are very deserving of my vote, best wishes to you all.
Really well done. Each video gets better than the previous one. It's great to see your crew participating like they are!
Its amazing to see the size of the ship next to you, thanks for sharing. Charles
If AWOL is a super yacht, what is that one!?
@@neuronflux next 'level' would be mega yacht, then giga yacht...
Wedge 2 would be a Mega Yacht
Your style of showing what it is like to be a super yacht ships captain make me feel like I am on board. Very enjoyable watching you work as well as your magnificent crew. I enjoy the fact that you do not ask us to look through your face to see behind you. Many vlogs I watched early on the captain shoved the cameras right in his face. Keep up the excellent work
I don't think it I possible to have done a better job of docking AWOL, congratulations Captain.
Thanks for adding the other camera angles. It was good to see what's happening at the stern of the ship while you are maneuvering. The spectacular drone footage shows how beautiful the AWOL is.
docked in Portofino a couple of time, mid seventies, just to let guests and friends ashore (was keeping my boat in Santa Margherita, 4 mile away), so I never actually anchored there, but the experience and scenery is vividly remembered
A good way for me to see Portofino again! Smooth and careful ship handling. It pays to employ an experienced captain and crew.
I've watched this video several times, and each time the beauty of Porto Fino almost makes me cry. This skipper's ability to bring a MV into this port and display the highest skills of seamanship and professionalism is exceptional and inspiring. Well done. Again..lol
What a wonderful video. Thank you so much for taking the time to post. I so enjoy everyone you post. What a great Captain and crew. You all work so good together.
I'm adding a star for the 1 legged dock hand! I never realized how the anchor was used to both help the ship turn in spot as a drag, and to secure the bow as a counter to the stern lines. It makes sense, I just never saw that before.
If you've a Mediterranean choice for a port in a bad storm, Marina di Portofino is magical indeed, true Old World charm.
Truly such an amazingly beautiful little marina, who's beauty caught by the drone footage.
That amazing work navigating in those tight areas between othe yachts.
Bravo Zulu for a job well done
Nerves of Steel. Awesome. We’re going to spin around & back right in. No Problem. Nice. 2nd time of watched this one. Thnx, CJ
Definitely enjoyed the multi camera angles and crew explanations during the procedure. Great job guys! Looking forward to the next one.
This brought back so many great memories of arriving in Portofino albeit on a somewhat smaller 50 odd footer. We could only get a berth for a single night and moved to the marina at Rapallo where by pure chance we got to meet the owner, the legendary Carlo Riva.
That was a pleasure to watch, and the camera angles (plus drone!) are a real asset this season.
Great video. I am 7.5 meter and would love to visit this port. It’s all good fun, no mater how small. Get out and enjoy. Definitely look like a professional operation captain
Great drone footage and impressive boat handling. Having tried doing that on a 40’ sailing boat, doing it on a 120’ super yacht is impressive.
Guy next door is like " that's not a super yacht, this is a super yacht!"
I got the giggles with that one.
Nope..Looks down at AWOL and goes;"Nice Little Chase Boat you got there..."
Yes I would have to agree with you
Yeah, like Mick Dundee😂
I was going to say they should re-name this video "how to make a super yacht look small"
What a fantastic job visting all the different places meeting people and living life on board a beautiful boat freedom of the sea fantastic video keep up the good work 👍
Just found this channel. I visited Portofino on an Azamara cruise. Wish I was on this yacht. Beautiful camera work Thank you Captain.
Great vlog Tristan. The drone footage really adds to the quality of the video and to our understanding of the various stages of the docking sequence. Keep up the great work, you'll soon hit 30k subs!
170k now 😁
Well done Captain. A great crew and all done well. We know the port well and its' a beautiful place.
Stunning: amazing, astonishing, astounding, blindsiding, dumbfounding, eye-opening, flabbergasting, jarring, jaw-dropping, jolting, shocking, startling, stupefying, surprising. I believe that says it all.
Great job docking and maneuvering in a small space. Very confident in every move. My husband and I have enjoyed every vlog from the beginning. Good luck with your campaign for 10,000 subscribers.
Neatly done, Tristan. You MAY!!!!!!
As always: absolute boss boat handling Captain. Thank you so much for sharing this.
What you are doing, is what I was supposed to do, if I didn't screw up my life...
Love your channel my friend:-)
Incredible video! I may be landlocked in Texas but your channel inspires great dreams. Thank you, Tristan!
Wow AWOL is a huge yacht and yet she looks so small next to Wedge Too
There is always a Ferrari faster than your one.
There is always a luxury yacht bigger than your one.
There is no more beautiful and classy place that the Italian Riviera.
Portofino, Santa Margherita, San Fruttuoso, Rapallo, Zoagli, Remo....... Unforgetable places.
Thanks for posting !
One of the big advantages of having a smaller super yacht such as the 40 metre AWOL is that it can safely tie up to the dock in small harbours such as Portofino.
The 100+ metre yachts have to anchor offshore when visiting Portofino and use a tender to deliver their guests and crew to shore. Even the 65 metre Wedge Too beside AWOL looked like it was too large for docking in Portofino.
Excellent video. I really enjoy videos that show the technical side of running a yacht. Also great drone footage.
The biggest one I saw in Portofino by myself was the 48M M/Y Khalilah and I already thought then that this was a tight fit for Portofino. But M/Y Wedge Too is another 17 metres longer than M/Y Khalilah and they still let her in. Seems to have a little bit more space than it looks like. Even when you are standing right there.
Beautiful. Great job parking the yacht and with the video.
Loving your work, Tristan. Made sure to vote for you guys as well. Could you maybe film the Caterpillar start-up one day? Maybe stick a GoPro in there? I would love to hear those beatst roaring into life. Amazing how you made your hobby into a wel-paid job. Inspirational dedication. Keep them coming!
Very nicely done. Guess you were pleased it wasn’t a good blow while doing this! Was thinking it looked quite ‘cosy’ to be going in with a 40’ yacht much less something this size, but then bow and stern thrusters help make a difference. Mind, God knows what it’s like parking something the size of the yacht on your port hand side! And you scope look absurdly short until the drone pulled back at then end. But a lovely bit of parking 😊
Tristan, from day 1 I am following your vlog its great to see where you and your team started from and where you are now. Happy too seeing a new vlog every time big thumbs up. Happily voted for ⚓ A W O L ⚓
Tristan you have my dream job ! Like I tell my wife , who gives me a hard time when I dock our boat at a "cautious pace". Slow is pro ! Nice job Captain !
Great to see truly professional people do a very hard job. I have a 28 ft. and that's all I can do.
I hope someone notices the guy that help to cache the line on his bike and says thank you !! Great job everyone! The real Capitan hook.
One of the most beautiful places I had the pleasure of cruising to. So sad it was only for one day, although we did get back in time to see the incredible firework display for Bastille day.
your crew make that look so easy. speaks well for your training
Another great video thanks Tristan. Wow, Awol looks like a skiff next to the behemoth "Wedge Too". Lol
Imagine parking a 30,000 ton bulk carrier!(maybe you have) I picked up on your channel when you had the boat out of the water, I found it interesting and I'm still watching. Tristan, you are obviously a good skipper and you have a decent crew too, what more could a skipper want, more to the point, you actually enjoy the youtube bit, which is always good to see. I watch a lot of sailing vlogs but tend to give super yachts a wide berth but your enthusiasm and knowledge of your boat got me, so yes I shall put bock in the tix for you, where's that scotch, aaahhh, that's better where am, was I Hick!!!
That was very nicely done. Interesting to see the coordination on board. I'm surprised how far ahead you drop anchor. That looks like three boat lengths worth of chain.
nice video, BEAUTIFUL harbor/mountainside. Just can't get that feeling from any other advantage except approaching by water.
Came across you vlog a couple of weeks ago. I am really enjoying it. And each new one is better. You and your crew did a job of docking AND capturing it on camera. Well done. Doug
Another wonderful video with great camera angles and editing. As always, have fun and stay safe.
Very nice mate! I am glad UA-cam recommended your channel. That was a Yuge Yatch you parked beside. I have been on many Cruise Ship bridges...it is nice to see how a Captain of a smaller ship.Thank You for taking your time to video this.Just beautiful .
Another fantastic video Tristan, your vblog style and informative subject matter is awesome, going to be very tough for the other yachts to beat you guy's this year with such an a great team, and yes of course I voted ...good luck sir and if you ever want to consider a bespoke source of Organic, Ethical and Sustainable crew wear feel free to get in touch fella...keep up the inspiring good work
Damn that was impressive as hell! Good job AWOL! We are living thru you
Beautiful docking. I was having lunch there at the marina last year watching another yacht back in and was amazed! Well done.
🙏😇
NBC 78
Voted! Good luck - and thank you for the info on the inner workings of a 500T yacht
Loved this!!!! I was in Portofino in August!!! It was so cool to see it from this perspective.
Docking done to perfection. Love the drone footage and seeing what everyone does when pulling into port.
A delicate operation artfully executed…great team work…
Amazing, love the control you have on the boat...
That last drone shot was fantastic, well done to pilot.
Great to see a crew working so wonderfully together, great vid. 👍
Superb, great to watch. Most professional
Excellent manoeuvring, relaxed and fully in control. Everything first time right. Nice camera work and last but not least : a beautiful place. Well done!
Amazing footage and what a beautiful little port. Awesome docking skills. The one thing I'm learning for mooring my little tug is slow and calm wins the day. Thanks for sharing.
