This is everything . “Children of the Wind” is a sentimental musical theatre marvel of composition. Stratas here is in her element in text and range. One can actually feel her entire being in this role. Everyone here is extraordinary and total in it’s moving effect- just as excellent theatre should be.
Very well said, thank you. And "one can actually feel her entire being in this role" is probably an apt description of Stratas in many of her roles. A great artist, and a fine Charles Strouse-Stephen Schwartz number.

Wow Ive never heard of Teresa Stratas but she is incredible, her acting and voice shocked me 💗
Glad I was able to introduce you to her. One of the genuine operatic greats of recent years, gorgeous voice and always fascinating to watch on stage. A shame she didn't make the "Rags" recording.
I also saw Stratas as Jenny in "Mahagonny" and as Liu in "Turandot" at the Met. Amazing singing actress who deserved a much better deal than she got from "Rags!"
How have I not watched this before, when I’ve listened to Migenes? Devastatingly beautiful.

As with the recording of "Rags", when Stratas was not available, Julia Migenes whom I also so much love was chosen to fill in for roles back in the 1980s.. I only know from what I've seen as in this clip and the scene on the Tony's with Dick Latessa and Judy Kuhn...there are so many amazing performers in this musical. Stratas is amazing here. So glad to see this gem of a clip! :)

I remember this was profiled on some network news magazine before it open… I think there was an interview of Larry Kerr? Teresa Stratas? Perhaps Charles Strouse? It was so long ago. I was so interested in seeing the show but was so surprised to see it have such a short run. This Josh child was in 2 beloved flops. A shame he didn’t reach more recognition. I love the the documentary “Strata-Sphere” she was a wonderful “broad” in the best possible way. So charming, poised and accessible! This clip is gold.
Josh did go on to appear on a couple of seasons of ALF.
However truly lovely Miss Migenes is, not having Miss Stratas on the OBC is criminal.
I couldn't agree more. One of the greatest opera stars of her era, Stratas had no trouble sounding down-to-earth, direct, real. Migenes sings with a certain grandeur that's less ideal for Rebecca in "Rags." And while both are top-notch artists, the gorgeousness of Stratas' singing in this number can't be equaled.

Had no idea she was in this! Opera diva who sang Lulu, Salome, Mimi, Liu, Marie Antoinette, just to scratch the surface. No wonder she was cast in a Broadway show. But, Strouse, you couldn't give us a high note at the end of any of these scenes?

Saw the attempted rewrite last year at Goodspeed ... god, it was ROUGH.
I saw the joint production of the PaperMill Playhouse and Cocount Grove Playhouse. The production values were just awful but the show worked and Marilyn Caskey was wonderful.
