I was privileged to see Ms. Stratas perform O mio babbino caro and indeed all three roles in Il Trittico at the Met in 1989. A true artist, actress and chameleon.
Such a wonderful soprano. Such interpretation. And live she was absolutely like this and more. Flooding sound with that tremolo that worked and such expressive A and B's and high C's and what a chest voice. She brought it every time. Her Jenny was genius and is her rendering of "O mio babino caro"
The voice and emotional power of a lifetime ... the equal of Caruso and Billie Holiday. I'm totally smitten for Stratas, she knocks me out. Some spectacular highlights: * Nedda in "Pagliacci" * Mimi in "La Boheme" * Brecht & Weill's "Mahagonny"
I love her speaking voice. Kind of low and even gruff. Very no-nonsense and down-to-earth but sweet and sensitive at the same time. And her artistry goes without question. She pours so much of herself into what she does.
Che artista!!! Complimenti. Che padronanza vocale, scenica ed espressivo-vocale! Straordinaria. Andrei anch'io nel Monastero del Monte Carmelo pur di sentirle cantare le lodi
I chuckle whenever I hear 'O Mio Babbino Caro' being described as an aria about love. Yes, it's about love, and also about defiance of a parent and suicide. "Dad, if you don't give me your blessings I'm going to jump into the river and kill myself" XD
Not that she wasn't beautiful before, but when she sings, her face loses like 20 years. Or maybe when she speaks she simply sounds older than her years.
This is so beautiful. Stratas is one of the very best but never seems to get the attention or respect she deserves. A million thanks for posting this!
I love her voice.... her voice is so high but so low and full at the same time. She seems so nice and real. She has so much passion
The voice is still incredibly fresh. What a lesson of singing and interpretation ! :)

She was a genius at communicating this music.
GRANDE!!!!!! The great Greek-Canadian soprano! Brava Teresa!!!!
I loved her in Der Zarewitch with Ochman and in La Traviata with Domingo... she was wonderful.

At 7:50...oh...my...God!
I know she's on record saying she'll never teach.
I taped it, way back when.
