Been doing drywall for 31 years and everything you said was true. Most hangers I've seen, and used never think about the layout of a room, and the problem areas that could arise, most of them don't know. They just pick a wall and start hanging from that wall across the room. We plan out every room. I look for areas that typically cause problems and do everything I can to avoid them. ALWAYS!!! split beams, and structural members. NEVER!! land a joint of any kind on a beam, or any other structural member, which is another good reason not to stand up your drywall. When you stand up the drywall it's unavoidable that joints will land on Jack's, and other bad places. Also, glue and screw, absolutely no nails allowed on my jobs. Nails and drywall don't mix.
