  • On this episode of #TBWD, the guys review the Bunnahabhain Cruach-Mhona NAS Single Malt Scotch Whisky from the Islay Region, released at 50%. After having several unpeated Bunnahbhain releases, this peated expression reminds everyone of why the Islay Region is known for peated Scotch Whisky. With clear sweet, smoke, & salt notes, this whisky starts off strong and ends with a warm embrace. We hope you find a glass to enjoy. Cheers!

Thank you for a different view of tasting whisk(e)y. You present this as friends enjoying a nice dram. As being new on my whisk(e)y journey, I have yet to sit down enjoy a pour with friends. It is something I look forward to. Please don't stop these reviews.

Thank you for the feedback; we are really friends for decades (the entire #TBWD team) and wanted to create a review show that is for everyone, not just a regurgitation of researched 'facts' as told to us by the distilleries or other experts. We go where 'Randy' (the number generator) takes us and we open it. Cheers! (and yes, we plan to keep doing this; the show should be called Try Until We Die...LOL)

Nice review! I just got myself a bottle of this one. My wife bought in Germany. I'm really looking forward to try it again. I've had 2 bottles before, Batch 1 from 2010 and batch 8 from 2014. I think it was in 2018 that they change from "Batch" to "Limited Edition". It's a mix of peated (40ppm) and unpeated ex-bourbon barrels and ex oloroso sherry casks and it's often a bit higher ratio of the sherry casks, all according to the distillery. I've had quite a few different Bunnahabhain over the years, never disapointed, so far. Cheers

Thanks! and thanks for the extra information, we always love learning more about SMSW. We just got 2 1990's bottles of 18yo Bunna, very excited to dip into those. Cheers mate!

I really like the Cruach Mhona. To me, it's more of a morning after campfire type of smoke than it is right in the heat of things, such as the Wee Beastie.

yes...very different than the Wee Beastie indeed! much more subtle, yet still strong. Cheers!

4 bottles to the right on the shelf. Is that a First Edition by Hunter Laing? One of my favourite indi’s, always left field drams. Bunna is my spiritual home. The most beautiful place on earth.
A couple more sips later, Malcom is in heaven with a Smokey wet log 😅
Keep up the good work gents. 🥃

That bottle is a Douglas of Drumlanrig release of a 13yo Laphroaig, brought back from Scotland by a friend. We appreciate your steadfastness in paying attention to our show, you are truly a peer and perhaps a mentor too. Cheers!

These 1L bottles are hit and miss from Bunnahabhain for me. I like trying them but I prefer most of the standard range.

Agreed; there is a fine line (or a pronounced line) in having to buy a bottle to try the content...it's a risk...sometimes it pays off, other times; a lesson is learned. Cheers!
