    When it was on sale how much was the Olight Perun 2? I'm just curious. It's $89.95 full price. I want to see if I should wait until another sale to grab one then. Was it really - 45% off?

      2500lumen for 2m then 175m at 800 and I believe mine runs about that. But, honestly that's a bit bright for most things unless you're scared in the woods and looking to flood the area looking for something. High is plenty of light for trails around me and that's lasted me multiple nights without charging.

    Ben, thanks for the review! I actually do use the timers. :-) Since I could just turn the light off at the last minute I suppose I am just trying to get my money's worth, but I do find it useful--just remember the HOLD part. LOL. I set the timer, take of my glasses, and since I have sleep apnea, put on my mask, and then see if I fall asleep first or the light goes off first. I wonder if that might be a helpful technique for insomnia--especially if you have a neutral white Olight--hard as they are to come by. [See comment in reply to that perceptive viewer Pestilen3e.]
    As for the sensor it has its plus and minuses. I think overall it is a plus. (Wonder what happened to that wave function.) If nothing else it is useful for making sure you do not run down one's battery or melt/burn something. I think that is more the intent than just adjusting the brightness. I was trying to give my Perun some use the other day since I mostly neglect it. I tried cupping my hand around it on moonlight mode to avoid irritating my wife's night adapted eyes, and found it shut off. That is not a complaint on the moonlight mode level they chose, but a comment on the sensor. For that size light with that broad a beam I suppose a 5 lumen "moonlight" mode is reasonable, but I would not argue if they added another lower level moonlight. Note the added, not just changed. Hmmm...we need an Olight Perun 3 in neutral white with a Marauder 2 style switch on the top. ;-)

      @@livingsurvival I see your H1R is neutral from the N preceding the serial number as is mine, with yours made on 2016 Dec 27 and mine was made on 2017 January 5, so they are made within 9 days of each other. :-) It seems to me that I might have mentioned this before. LOL.
      Another only partially useful fact, I was taking out the trash with my headlamp and saw all these blueish-green reflections in the grass, when it had not rained and no dew. The glows were from dozens of wolf spiders! One sees the reflections when the light source is near ones eyes.

    the proximity sensor is a safety feature for accidental or intentional turbo activation when you put your light inside a bag. or you are in a tent or too close any flammable object.yup i dont like that feature either, but you are whining for the wrong reason. it is not for reading maps! you can use the function as such, but that is not the primary purpose.

    • @livingsurvival
      @livingsurvival  3 роки тому +3

      So their marketing showing the proximity sensor for reading maps must be wrong. The lockout is for accidental activation not the sensor. Pretty sure I’m “whining” for the right reason.

    • @josephsanecra8386
      @josephsanecra8386 3 роки тому

      that marketing thing showing the perun 2 being held close to a map shows that it will not burn maps tents backpacks leaves when you inetentionaly or uninetentionly hold it close to a flammable object. im pretty sure you are whining for the wrong reason. sure you can use it to read maps but almost all flashlights can be used for that by using the lowest mode.

      Definition: prox·im·i·ty [noun] nearness in space, time, or relationship.
      If the proximity sensor was for safety, wouldn't they call it a safety lock out and not offer the current lock out they currently have on it? I kinda think Living Survival is right.

    Olight X7R Marauder features enhanced safety technology through proximity sensors that lower the output when the higher beam settings are near an object it could potentially damage...this is the official description of olight's proximity sensor installed in the X7R. and this is the PERUN official description: when the built-in infrared distance sensor detects an obstruction nearby, the brightness will automatically be reduced to the lowest level for protection. this was installed on the PERUN because people going in and out are burning holes into thier tents with the H2R NOVA strapped on thier head. the proximity sensor is a safety feature that is why there is no manual over ride.. olight proximity sensor is safety feature. not map reading. lmao
