Another little known feature, the lock for the drive that locks it down, its made to break off if you hit something really hard so the drive comes up and you dont damage it. The drives on these are built like a tank. Ive hit rocks going so fast its thrown me out of the seat, but no damage to the drive. If you break the drive lock, you can simply buy a replacement, they are cheap; or you could just do like me, i never lock the drive down. Only if im making a long run in water i know is deep. If im fishing or just casually pedaling around, or in water wthsts shsllow or full of hazards, i dont lock the drive down. It still works just fine, it doesnt come up unless you hit something, or manually pull it up. If you keep the drive unlocked you never have to worry about breaking the locking tab, if you hit something the drive just pops right up and then you can put it back down and keep going.
Great review. Going to put mine in the water for the first time this week. Old Town should show you getting on the edges of it without flipping it over. That's a big deal. You made a believer out of me.

How is it?
Your video is one I watched before buying mine. I was really skeptical because a lot of videos are sponsored or they get the kayak for free from the company. There’s also no one near me that sells these. I ordered mine and had to pay freight shipping without ever looking at it. I came from a cheap $300 sit inside kayak from dicks sporting goods. This is 1000% better than what I’ve used before. I love the ability to be hands free while casting. Thanks for the video
Yeah, its the same as the old town topwater that came out a year before, they just added it to the sportsman line. same hull just very minor tweaks. I have the topwater pdl 120, been fishing with it for 2 seasons now, I absolutely love it. It’s ridiculously stable, etc. 3 minor things I would change: the seat, but now you can get the more padded predator seats and a company makes these 1-3 inch risers for back of seat. (Add a 1 inch one, it will change the whole feel of the yak, its awesome). Then id change the built in transducer mount. Its not made to fit larger transducers with side imaging and stuff. It wouldnt fit a garmin side imaging/down imaging one, i had to modify the garmin mount so it would sit up inside the hull, and then it just barely clears so it was still getting hit by rocks and stuff occasionally though never taking a head on hit. So i changed it to where i drop transducer over side from gear track.
Then finally, the last snd main thing. I fish yak tournaments and i will take as many as 9 rods with me. Theres only space for a couple (or a few if you pile them on one another) to fit horizontally in the hull. Most have to sit vertical in the provided rod holders, and additional ones I added to my tackle crate. Let me tell you, this is no bueno when trying to get deep up a creek or in skinny water. Rods are getting hung in trees, you are having to take them out and try snd find room on the deck and then you end up piling them all on one another and they get tangled etc. you could put rods inside the hull, but then you cannot access them on the fly, you have to go to shore, open your hatch snd get them out. Unfortunately this vertical rod storage is a problem with every single kayak out there except one. The hobie pro angler 14 is wide enough and large enough there are 6 slots for horizontal rod storage, but you can double them up snd carry 12 horizontally next to your seat on either side and they are easily accessible. In the pa12 you can get 8 rods. Every other kayak ever made only has room for a couple rods to be held horizontally, so if you are fishing kayak tourneys, remember that. You need many rods for dif techniques and changing conditions. You dont want to waste time re-rigging the same two, then trying to throw crankbaits on flipping rods and all that mess.
Oh yeah, also it could do with a couple more gear tracks on the back half of the boat, for lights, rod holders, whatever.
You may have just shown me one stable enough for me to finally get one for myself. Kayak fishing seems so exciting to me even though I've never done it before.

Great review and that camera work is 🔥 I got the Old Town 106MK with the motor. I know some tournaments don’t allow but man these kayaks are worth every penny. I never stood on the end like you did though! That was impressive!

I just purchased an Oru Bay ST folding kayak and the thing weights 28 lbs but the stability and foot pedals of this OT PDL got me green with envy man. My Bay ST gives anxiety, i feel like the thing is going to tip over almost all the time. Then I see you standing on the bow and I'm like wow! (See what i did there? Ha!) I gotta get one of those!

I was very close to getting this very kayak especially since I could have gotten it with my cousins discount however here in the midwest where the weeds can literally weeds can choke you out I went with a Hobie compass and couldn't be happier.
