Small correction, my source was a bit outdated so the exp goal is actually 5100, not 5300!
I remember playing this on N64 on easy. Right after you finish the fire boss and talk to Raiden. The game tells you to start over on a higher difficulty to play past the fire stage. I cried🤣🤣
Worst game design ever. That was the first time I ever got upset at a game.
Wow. I never knew that. That sucks.
That's neat actually
@@dnegel9546 it's really not. It would have been neat if they told you ahead of time. I was playing through on easy because I wanted to quickly beat this and see the ending, instead it just wasted several hours of my time
@@mitchmediak get good 🙄
I never thought I’d see a video about Mythologies that wasn’t a scathing review, much less one that goes so in depth into its mechanics. I adore this game, so I can’t thank you enough for all the effort that went into this video.
Its actually not a bad game at all just a little on the cheap side. The cutscenes are awesome
Unrelated to the actual topic. But one thing I DEFINITELY like in MK Mythologies is the visual design of the levels. The depth/parallax is just so smooth. As a MK fanart maker who mainly designs stage concepts, I can say this is one of the things Mythologies makes up for the other issues the game had.
where can i check your fanarts?
@@alicecurze2753 You can search for my Deviant Art account, "GreenShot453". Most of my MK related arts rely there. The unreleased art can be sent in Discord DM's, though.
When gstar321 did this it was hilarious, i miss him so much :(
Me too man. Heard he has an Xbox account and all the MK11 achievements so he's still playing :)
@@captnkilljoy yeahhhh i sometimes check what hes up too on xbox but yeah, I hope hes doing well anyways
I was gonna pay my respects and reference him on this video, too. He’s a legend.
His whole playthrough was amazing especially during the 2nd stage.
He isn't dead but you're right, miss him
Mrgstar321: "LOOK AT THIS!"
"The AI is completely fucked Ok" lmao i miss that guy.
The wind stage made me quit this as a kid. Glad to know I’m not the only one.
same here!
One could say that everybody involved in the making of this video is an absolute legend.
Where's Karl Jobst when we need him?
You could say it's a perfect legend
I still love this game on ps1 of course. N64 was impossible it felt like. I was convinced for the longest time I was the only person good at this game and enjoyed it.
I remember seeing this for rental at a Blockbuster. The back of the box made it look like Sub Zero was climbing and grabbing bananas
This game would have been amazing if:
better checkpoints
less maze
less instant deaths...
that's it, other than that it's pretty cool game.
I was just re watching your Ermac competitive video and you upload this, great day
ive watched a few of mustard's runs but sagat is insane
The GOAT
Really enjoyed this one as I played this game for the first time seriously recently. Absolutely love the channel.
That Netherrealm skip might be the most galaxy brained thing I've ever seen in all my years of gaming. Can't even begin imagine how long it took to pull that off in a live run
Ketchup can we have a competitive history of Smoke! From robot to human and all his broken tools in mkx MK9 and umk3
Most notorious spin off. Video isn't about MK: Special Forces.
"I sense great fear in you."
I like speedrun content and fighting games, good vid!
*BREAKING NEWS*
Local -N-i-n-j-a- Lin Kuei bypasses Elder Gods' security and steals evil amulet in record time, realises he got scammed, gets it back before earthrealm's protector realises it's gone
I remember playing this back in the day! I was so young I never knew what it was called until I saw that damn Wind level.
I'm gonna ruin looking at the Sub Zero idle stance for you. Ready?
Under his right arm (the one whose forearm goes over his gut) down the side of his torso where his arm should really be casting a shadow, there's a massive overexposed spot where it's caught the studio lights really hard.
Have fun never unseeing that.
If this game would get some kind of gameplay revision, it would genuinely be a top 5 mk game, I'll be honest. Gives Bi han a well needed depth in his character.
I have so many great memories of this game. I love the ambiance, sound and the whole MK Aesthetic and atmosphere that I feel it's lost after MK4 (Maybe because John Tobias left?) Still has that carpenter 80s feeling with the great MK response. I understand that platforming is obtuse but they definitely tried to make a great game.
Fun fact. I did a PS4/Switch game called Klaus in which one of the levels is inspired by the Water temple
You know what. I would love to see a remake of this game. Properly done mk themed platformer in our current age of gaming could be pretty cool
It is rare that I have ever been here this early. Sick.
We need some more COMPLETE HISTORIES OF MK!!!
Love Mythologies so much even more because you are Bi-Han Sub Zero, I remember having a draw map for the water temple because you just get lost everytime, hope Netherealm gives another go to a adventure MK game like Shaolin Monks and Mythologies.
I had this game on 64 as a child. I thought I had gotten so far into the game when I made it almost the the end of the second level.
I was recently watching through Lythero's playthrough of this game, so the timing of this video couldn't have been more perfect. lol
Most of the games known and voted up to be the 'hardest' ones to run are mainly due to being heavily RNG dependant. I find it very interesting that MK Mythologies goes the other way in this case, whereas the difficulty of the run is mostly on the execution of tough techniques to pull off.
Execution wise, this must be the hardest game to speedrun that I know of. Got really impressed by that 'enemy assist' techinique, plus the boss skip scenarios.
All and all, another superb video/research.
A remake of this game would be cool, one the improves upon the concepts it has and gets rid of the problems many have with it (the unfair difficulty and control issues) and it could be a great time.
I’m beyond impressed with Jake’s speed run execution. Didn’t know you guys meddle with speed runs
Dude you probably have my favorite UA-cam intro it’s amazing
neato that this game got embraced to the maximum. Before I found a physical copy I never knew about it. It was such a treat. I got to the end stage but didn't beat it.
this game should be a contender for awful games done quick
10:06 i think theres one really good thing about that game which is fujins debut
Thank you!
I also love the Fire God's design in this game. I kind of wish they made him a main character at some point instead of always making Liu Kang a Fire God. maybe if they made a game in an alternate timeline, it would be neat to see Kaijin as the protector of Earth and/or a playable character.
Notorius is a nice way to put it
I wanted to like this game so much when it launched
26:05 happens so quick I thought he actually didn't grab the amulet. Imagine how pissed you'd be if you got to that point, froze Shinok, jumped over him, slide out and forgot to grab it! lmao
The fact that the M:SZ record holders name is Sagat is kinda funny since thats also the name of an SF charecter
Nice!
The cutscenes In this game are golden I love them lolz
I remember having to google how to beat fujin because it was SO OBVIOUS to crouch at the edge
I have such a love/hate relationship with this game. I adore Mortal Kombat and have done since the first game all the way back in the 90s, and Sub Zero was, is, and always will be my favourite, so a game focused entirely on him, exploring the universe in a way only the comics, movie, and cartoon had allowed us to previously, and featuring the original Sub Zero and how he first officially took on and killed Scorpion was amazing to me. That said, the punishing difficulty, the unintuitive controls for a brawler/platformer, and the slow turn animation really hurt my enjoyment of the game. I practically took it as a mark of pride that I managed to beat the first level every time with ease due to really trying to like the game. But eventually I just had to accept it wasn't what I thought it would be.
That said I love that there is a speed running community for the game, that there are people who can find the enjoyment from it that I never could, I just don't have the patience, focus, and skill to get to their level.
I love that he hands it over to mustard like he's a different person 🤣
I remember seeing the title to the game and because Sub has always been my favourite character, being so excited to play it.
And then I turned it on. My reaction was '.... wut?'. This was not what I was expecting, or wanted. I started getting Batman flashbacks
I remember playing this! Never beat it if I remember correctly. But it was really cool! No pun intended lol
Im playing it rn and it’s sorta hard but none the less fun !
2:58 mustard joining the cyber Lin Kuei
I love watching how this game pisses off everyone lol but speed runs are fun you can avoid certain enemies it'll just take longer to rank up or unlock upgraded moves i should say. Ive never speed run this game been thinking about it.
Ive speed run mk 4 on N64, I believe I'm 5th or 6th worldwide overall max difficulty N64 but 1st in the world with Fujin since nobody has my time beat with him on arcade single player max. I wonder if the second stage skip trick will work on N64 without crashing aince thats a cartridge, didn't have loading or crash issues like the psx version had. Cool video.
I had no idea that this game is more of an RPG than I initially thought. I knew about the inventory, but getting actual EXP and unlocking moves through it, let alone making sure that you get enough of in order to finish the game? That's news to me. Fantastic video once again guys :)
I like your hair in this video.
No particular reason, just saw it and thought it looked nice :}
I'd actually had it cut that day I was filming so it worked out 🤣👊
Can you please make a competitive history for sub zero cuz my friend always plays him but doesn't know all the technics😁
these videos are so great man
Hey im curious, who is the older brother between K&M ? and also, who is the best at umc- mk9 - 10 - 11? (?
All I know is they're twins born on 4-20 I couldn't tell ya which appeared first
@@mattigator600 my fucking god, being born in 4/20... those guys truly are elder gods
One thing you didn't mention (Probably because it doesn't have anything to do with the speedrun) is that if you are playing on Easy, or Very Easy difficulty Raiden shows up at the end of the Fire Temple and says you are not ready. The game then tells you to play on Medium or higher. (At least on the N64 version)
If they feel bold they can remake this using Arkham series' control scheme and mechanics, but with subzero.
I wouldn’t have my worst enemy play this game!!
Does this game save on n64 ??
They should remake this game.
I just remember max's run through the game. Lol
Where is Sagat from? He sounds argentinian
Uruguay :D
gotta sub when i see content like this
Just wanted to say that your hair looks so smooth!
😎
The funniest playthrough of this game is from Maximilian Dood. I laughed so hard it hurt because you could tell he was genuinely mad at this game pretty early on and even with infinite lives xD
Water temple throws you in the deep end. I'm so proud of you, m4+4
The ai is fucked alright
ok but when are they adding ma boi Omni-Man?
Man this game was amazing! They need to make a whole mythologies series same style of play just modern and do all the characters and their personal stories. It would make more sense here and work very well
Next up: special forces speedrun
People hate on this game, but its honestly really fun. Its not well made, but its actually quite enjoyable. Get a friend or two, and take turns between deaths. Maybe make a drinking game out of it.
If you made a drinking game i think that would constitute manslaughter:)
0utworld is the #1 Mythologies player on the planet, everyone else copied him.
Mk mythologies vs dc & knuckles
Speedrunning this game? Mad Lads!
Hello there....✨🏆✨
The soundtrack of this game is great! But the game as a whole is simply awful, it's a "what-not-to-do if you are going to develope a game"
Hi
I want to like the game, I do but... The learning curve or the frustration nature of the traps makes the game difficult to enjoy for me
too bad NRS is so obsesed with Scorpion, they would never remake this game properly and instead would make an scorpion game just for the sake of more scorpion
Not being mean, love your videos, but I feel like the flow of information was clunky, like maybe you just rambled off script or something. Still a good video but I do think it could have been more concise.
The video contains mostly interviews and live rundowns. It's guna flow differently because I wanted the experts to say their piece.
Played this on N64 as a kid with my little brother, and we honestly never found it overly hard. I think people are just use to easy games now days.
Yeah man it was challenging, honestly just don't see all the negative ish.
Has no one heard of Special Forces? How is Mythologies more notorious than that?
Special forces is just a forgettable 3d beat em up. Mythologies was a lot more ambitious and therefore fell a lot more short.
@@PNDKM Fair enough. I thought I'd read something years ago about SF selling more copies within the first year than SZM did, but I can't find any numbers to back that up now. Even so, that may have even been incorrect.
One of the least fun games ever made. At least it has that going for it, I guess.
