    I paid 260 for a "priority entrance" ticket to Babymetal in NYC in November. It's about 100 more than I paid to see them in Wallingford, CT last November, but, you know, New York City.

    As for the booking fees, the article clearly states that "these amounts are not what a band gets for playing a show amidst a tour, but rather what they might ask for to fly into some random city for a one-off performance". But I still doubt it's very reliable, as it's got bands on there that broke up decades ago (like White Zombie).

    To give some idea of the level Babymetal is at the moment, just a couple of days ago performed at AFAS Live in Amsterdam, the same venue a few days later Judas Priest performed. So smaller than Sabaton or Nightwish and Metallica (an other step higher) above that.
    I think when a band is already on tour, that might end up being cheaper anyway, because they don't need to travel that far, they can take some of the 1 time costs of a tour and spread it out over all the venues of a tour, etc.

    • @isitmeoryou2543
      @isitmeoryou2543 9 днів тому

      Nightwish , Sabaton are big in Europe but not in the US and Asia so I guess there fees depend where they are going to play.

  • @WaechterDerNacht
    @WaechterDerNacht 9 днів тому

    I guess those fees will vary greatly depending on how the setup is. If it's a club gig, a festival or a one-off show in a venue that needs a complete stage setup (possibly have custom stage for your show) etc. I guess those 250k for Babymetal would be for a bigger venue with their "hovering stage" setup. For a festival gig it's probably a tenth to a fifth of the cost.
    Let's just assume average japanese salaries for everyone: according to averagesalarysurvey (dot) com it's ~42'000 USD/yr.
    We have:
    3 main acts - Su/Moa/Momo
    6 kami band members
    4 techs
    1 sound
    1 lights
    2 drivers (if a longer bus ride is needed)
    1-2 make up / wardrobe etc.
    1 pyros
    for bigger shows with custom stage setups many technicians for the whole setup, probably ~10-20 people.
    If you calculate this with the minimal 10 days payed holidays in Japan, you get 168 USD/day/person. Multiply with 19 people for a small/festival setup you get ~3'200 USD only wages. Add the travel (especially abroad with flights etc.) Let's assume a one off show in LA. Flights from Tokyo to LA and back are roughly 750 USD - times 19: 14'250 USD.
    Then we've got accomodation. Just for ease, let's assume 100 USD/night with breakfast. That's 1'900 USD/night for the crew. For a one-off show probably 2-3 nights. Festival maybe 1-2 nights. 2 nights would be 3'800 USD. Dinner and lunch is probably on the rider-list (is it called that?) for the day of the show. So you need food for the other day - 50 USD/person/day, means roughly 850 USD for that day.
    Adding all up you end up with 22'100 USD just for those basic things. Additional costs like insurances etc. needs to be added. Also, you can't play a show each day of the year. So you need to sum up the daily costs across multiple days into one show. If on tour you have a break of a week, people probably won't fly back from europe or the east coast to Japan and they work other jobs. You'll have to pay wages for those days aswell. This would mean that you end up with maybe 100k-140k of running costs to be covered by one gig. Maybe even more.

    I saw that whole The Warning + BandMaid thing like this, before the show:
    1. Hell yeah fun, and I finally get to see The Warning live (cause i live in japan some 15+ years and used to follow a lot of Jpop bands over the years)
    2. Uh oh this is two bullet trains headed for each other in a full on collision.
    We have BandMaid and the Japanese music culture scene in one train. In Japan no one takes pictures/videos at concerts, before shows there are warnings (pun unintended) spoken in the speaker systems that you should not record etc etc, no one wants to break rules or even tries to, or even thinks about it. (that is slowly changing, IMO, but that's another story)
    In the other train we have the Mexican (and probably to a big extent, western) culture in The Warning train. I've been a fan of The Warning for some 4 years and know how much the girls themselves, their management and their fans post live material and other band related content on every social media out there, all the time. I for one found The Warning thanks to a reaction video years ago. The Warning was "born" through their viral video on youtube where they play Metallica. The success of this band is spelt social media (of course they are hugely devoted and have great people around them, like their parents).
    So yeah like Alan says there might surely be a language issue with misunderstandings, but I think they main thing going on is these two wildly different cultures clashing hard on with each other.
    I went to the BM/TW show. I talked to some random non-Japanese man outside the show beforehand and was asking him if he knew if recording was gonna be allowed or not. I don't remember his answer really but I felt that we might be in for a a rough ride, and voila here we are 😃 I hope their respectives companies/managements behind the two bands are not hating each other too much by now. 😀 I'm a The Warning fan foremost and was never really much into bandmaid but I have to say BM really rocked hard, they were so fun to see. No hard feelings towards BM fans or their crew or anything. I just hope the love that was shown on stage (and in tiktoks etc) will carry on.
    Hail bandmaid, hail the warning. ⚠ 🤘🏻

    The numbers we have seriously tossed around have been MUCH more than $10k. Getting it done is an entirely different story but the money is the easy part.

      @@ChuckJansenII They can't legally jump a copyright filing , the only one who would have any legal rights to it would be THE WARNING or it's Management , international copyright laws would apply to this ! the real problem is ? say someone uploaded it from someone else's site and they distribute it , then comes into play ? where did they get it ? that's why UA-cam put strikes on people's accounts ! you can be sued for someone else's intellectual property year's down the road !

    Keep in mind that babymetal themeslves cost 250k+, but to hire a band for a gig, you ALSO have to take their costs into account, so Babymetal costs about 500k+ in total, not just 250k+.
