Biking Easley & Pickens, South Carolina | Doodle Trail

- Come along with me as I explore a bike trail that crosses over bridges, through back yards and past farm land - a gentle, Southern trail that connects the cities of Easley and Pickens in Upstate South Carolina. Sixteen miles out-and-back, the Doodle Trail is a great way to honor the history of the Pickens Railroad while burning some calories. The old train was said to look like a doodlebug as it doddled its way back and forth between these two communities. The rails are gone and the trains are still these days...but the walking, jogging and cycling has kicked into high gear. I also duck into the Pedal 'N Shack for a pretzel and some lemonade! I hope you enjoy visiting Easley and Pickens with me. Check our the Doodle Trail sometime for yourself.
I'm Scott. I explore, review and rate bike trails on this channel...and hopefully find a little joy in the journey. Thanks for watching!

Thanks for your videos. My wife and I enjoy the same kind of trails that you routinely review. It has really helped us planning the more distant trips, like Virginia Creeper, etc. Your content is terrific but your varied taste in music is the cherry on top 🍒. We’re RVers, dog lovers, and e-bike enthusiasts. That combination will allow us to do more of it in the near future. Thanks again. By the way, keep the personality coming. We are SO much alike, it’s scary. Take care, Randy
Awesome! Good to hear from you and welcome aboard. 🙂
Just found your channel looking for more trails to ride. I am a resident of Easley and bike the Doodle weekly, completely agree with your 3/5 assessment and there are a lot of intersections on the trail, but good for Easley for at least building it.
Good to have you on board! Thanks for watching. :)
My wife and I rode the Doodle last week.. it was a little tougher than I expected, long inclines. But overall, still agree with 3 stars. Fence still needs some TLC. Bt the way, the graveyard hill is a "killer"😅😅😅
I’ve been encountering some hills lately that are making me want to speed up my timetable for getting an e-bike. Oh no, I’m getting soft! 😂
You did a great job !!!
Thank you! The Doodle Trail is pretty nice...
Scott, I think you have one of the best channels on UA-cam. I come for the bike trails and your videography is dynamic, professional and captivating. No need to wave your hands around for the audience's attention. Thank you for your subtle testimony which is experienced in every video. God Bless.
Thanks so much for the kind remarks. I really appreciate that.
I’ve been on the doodle trail more times than I can count, you’re right on the fence, it always gets a little worse when storms roll through, but the people are genuinely nice that use the trail. I don’t think it’s vandalism as you would notice that at the parks too and they’re kept up well without any damage along the trail. It’s simply Mother Nature attempting to take back what is hers.
Well, it's a shame that it happens...but good that it's not vandalism!
Pickens south carolina is my home i have Lived here my whole life 42 years
My grandparents retired here in 1981, following my aunt moving down earlier. I spent family vacations with them as I grew up, and it’s wonderful to see the old abandoned rail line becoming the Doodle Trail instead of just becoming overgrown and forgotten. Pickens and Easley did a wonderful job of preserving the line’s history while still reviving it in a new form!
Finally rode it today with my wife. We have only been riding the SRT but heck I like this one. Yep more incline but not crowded at all.
Cool! Glad you liked it. Less traffic than the SRT, that’s for sure. But very peaceful.
Another nice video! Love the way that you cover the trails, as well as the towns.
Thanks!
Right about the time I was wondering if you saw the Pedalin Shack, you said you saw the Pedalin Shack. Great little place. I agree with you assessment of this trail. I'll ride it again when I'm in the area. Beautiful scenery. Thanks again! Love your videos, brotha, crazy arm movements and all ✋✌🙌👐👉👈
Ha! Thanks, man. One thing I forgot to mention in the video is that the degree of difficulty is higher than that of the swamp rabbit trail and a lot of others in the ‘easy’ category. You have to work pretty hard, and travel up some hills…in either direction. It’s actually good exercise!
The Doodle trail is a gem for the community. There is a fence vandalism problem on and off - go figure about what kids get turned on about these days.
So that’s it - vandals? I was wondering.
I was looking for train videos, but found your lovely channel instead. I don’t even live in SC but really enjoyed the history lesson. God Bless from NJ
Awesome! Thanks for watching, and I’m glad you enjoyed it. 🙂
I just had to subscribe. The best video work I have saw. I haven't figured out how you made the scene's unless it is a drone with a fisheye len. Nevertheless it is incredible. Love the content an ur personality. Thanks for sharing. 👍🙏
Thank you so much for the kind words and encouragement. Yes, it behaves like a low-flying drone but it’s actually a 360 camera made by Insta360. I’m holding it on the other end of a 9 1/2 foot tall selfie stick and the stick disappears in editing. Modern technology… You gotta love it.
Favorite author “Paul something..” 😂 This was another great one. Poodle on the Doodle and I was done….😂
😂
Good job Scott. If you want to really grab their attention, you have to have your hands moving while you tell them things like the poodle on the doodle. Combined them both and there’s no telling what might happen.
That’s it! Maybe the channel will blow up! 😂🤣😂
@@joyfultrails just be careful friend. It was not the channel, you get too much going. It might be an artery that blows up.
@@southernebiking 😂
New subscribers but we have been enjoying your videos for a month or so now. You do a fantastic job with your videos and all the information you provide. Keep those hands waving but be careful when you’re holding the 360 cam!
Ha! Will do. 😂 Thanks for watching and for the kind words.
Anyone can strap on a go pro and ride along some trail, you are a raconteur and a damn good one. Keep up the good work.
Thanks, man! I try. And I want you to know that I sweated a lot for this video! 😅 I didn’t talk about how hot it was… Thanks for watching.
@@joyfultrails It was so hot that neither the Poodle, Labradoodle or Golden Doodle wanted to be out there.
@@pedrofernandez8729 😂
i miss the stops at the local donut shops before your rides, maybe your doctor told you to cut them out, what does the doctor know. as for the hand waving, it must be to get rid of those no seeums, great videos for this old man
Easley used to have a locally-owned donut shop that I really liked…but, alas, it closed several years ago. 😢 Hey, thanks for watching. 🙂
@@joyfultrailswhen you go down Anderson or Clemson you should check out Herschbergers bakery... they’re known for their cinnamon rolls, but they make this huge donut on Saturdays and they always run out. Like $5/per.
I am sold on riding my bike in the Doodle trail. Looks beautiful and very scenic. Anything else I can do while spending a weekend in Easley SC?
Hmm...I'm not really up on what to do in Easley. But you will be only 20 minutes from downtown Greenville, which is quite the draw these days.
nice video and ounce again nice music. great way to start a day.
Thanks! I do take a lot of time and effort in trying to select music that fits the trail and fits the “feel” of the story (if that makes any sense.) I appreciate you noticing.
It makes sense. Keep up the commentary and history of towns, it what makes you special.
@@joyfultrailstotally agree, not just quick needle drop. 👍
I really enjoy your videos. I like that you not only showcase the trail but include the history of the towns. Just curious though, what handlebars do you have on your bike. Im looking a new set and it looks like the rise and sweep are perfect for comfort on rail trails. Thanks for the video!
Thanks so much for the kind words. Ask for the handlebars… They’re just the ones that came with my Townie bike. 🤷♂️ It’s a Townie Men’s 7D step-over and I bought it in the spring of 2021 at the Trek bike shop on Laurens Road in Greenville, South Carolina.
I liked it. Trail could just a face-lift, but it was peaceful and easy-going.
Passing through that cemetery was unique and I like the creativity of Pickens.
Was that, San Soo you were practicing? 👊🤙🤲👏🤝🤜🖖, with the hands?
Thanks I enjoyed it.
I was rehearsing to be a third base coach 🤣 Thanks for watching!
New subscriber. Enjoyed the video--keep it up! Do you encounter many e-bikes?
I do! Increasingly so. I’m probably going to get one myself sometime next year. Thanks for watching!
Your videos make think of what Lewis Grizzard would do if he had had a UA-cam channel in his day.
I remember him… I’ll take that! Thanks 🙂
What bike are you riding?
It’s a Townie 7D men’s step-over
