I gave away my Deck and Tapes miraculously I kept my turntable and vinyl. I’ve come to realise every format has its value.

Mixtapes are like an anthropological find. They are a snapshot of person, place and time. I have so may tapes that were made centered around relationships at any particular time. Also, FM radio was fantastic in the 70s and 80s. I recorded shows like the King Biscuit Flour Hour and Fireside Theatre. I have the last hours of WGTB (Georgetown University/Washington DC) radio as they went off air. My first deck was the Nakamichi wedge. Thank you for the tip about playing the deck regularly, I have not been doing that.

In 2010 I had a mix tape party where guests brought there old tapes in my loft. All played though Vandersteen 5 with a dbx 120 bass synthesizer to give it bottom end.
I still have 100 plus tapes , a bunch of radio live tapes from the old club in long Island , My fathers place, Taj Mahal, rolling stones. Some of my favourite mix tapes are old memories driving back home uptown from the mud club listening to pill, Roxy music, 999 at unsafe speeds in my tiny French car.

I like how my tapes capture the sound of my stereo system 40 years ago. 😀

I have most of Bob James vinyl albums on CTI and Tappan Zee label. Even his two free jazz ones Explosions I can't remember the other one's name. Not his most recent ones like The New Cool. Back in the late 70s, as a young lad, a work colleague and I bought new albums as soon as they came out. The good old days. Love the Taxi theme Angela.

Consider the time the owner put into recording those tapes and the thought they put into the titles of the tapes, whether to splurge on XL-II-S or metal, the choice and order of the recordings, and the challenge of fitting just enough music to use as much of the tape as possible without the last song going too long… brings back memories.

Yes yes yes yes! Exactly! These are a lot of work. And these mixes are really good, recorded at good levels, nice tight spacing.

Oh yeah.... the Nakamichi Dragon! I had the BX-2 (1983) for some years. That was a stretch for me financially, but loved making my cassettes in order to play in the car, AND to save the vinyl from friends/getting scratched. Not many folks I knew were very tidy with their vinyl.
I have a car now with a cd player and cassette! Missing my cassettes but I do have CDs thankfully. Carry on sir and thanks for your love of music. :-)

Good morning, John! Thanks for another video. I love your brand, your speakers, and your channel, here, which I think of as a kind of software. ❤ Just now, I’m kicking myself in the rear end for letting go of a bunch of cassette tapes, years ago, the most precious of which were some irreplaceable mixtapes done by a dear friend who is a jazz musician. 😢 Maybe someone else will keep their own treasures after seeing this video. 🎉 You’re going to be in the suburbs of my home town later this week, at AXPONA, but, much as I’d love to, I’m now a long day’s drive from there, and won’t be able to drop by. ❤ All the best to you and yours. 🙏

As usual I love it I have my own tapes and a sony tape deck which was bought out of panic when I stupidly got rid of my Aiwa pro deck. I still cant remember the circumstance, however I can still play my cassettes although, its been a while. Love the audiophile buddy i.e. the cat. I have four females I live with including the cat, the only one who is a regular in my listening room.

Perhaps someone cleaned out a friend's or relative's collection, maybe after their death. I could kick myself for not taking my dad's record collection after his death. A lot of 40's and 50's jazz including dozens of 78's. Great video as always.

You can make a streaming / digital playlist today and it’s admittedly easier than cassettes for the time saved, breadth of choices, etc., but my memories are that it was more satisfying to do on cassettes. I don’t know if this was the time and my age, the labor of love, or what. But it really was a personal experience. Especially the lauded mixed tape for someone else.
