I don't rally have a problem with modern stoves. The three I have all seem to be quite simple constructions that are made of solid material.

Nah, they made a bunch of crap back then too. Of course that crap is long gone to a junkyard and recycled. So only the high quality things from back then that were built to last remain with us. You do not see old low quality products because of this, but they were made in droves.

THAT brought back some memories I'd just as soon forgot. We had a stove almost identical to that when I was a kid living in Talladega, Alabama, before the area became famous. We used wood to get it started then added a few lumps of coal once it was burning good. That was a time of my life I would never want to go back to.

An old man and I were the maintenance crew for the new Headquarters building of C&H trucking. We always had lots of spare time, so were were always restoring things the president of the company would bring us. We rebuilt old cast iron Hunter ceiling fans, an old wagon wheel axle, an old "Torpedo" type Lincoln welding machine and even some old woven cane bottom dining chairs. Anything we couldn't buy my boss and the shop foreman would make it from scratch, including making sand casts for casting iron parts. I was in my 20's, but I learned a lot about restoring from those two old gentlemen. Harland Gilmore was my boss' name and Bob Wakham was the shop foreman. Between them they probably forgot more than most people would ever learn in a lifetime!

Always a pleasure seeing someone pour their heart into a project and the completion quality speaks for itself, excellent! I thought for sure you’d make one more fold in that cylinder to create a locking lip but using that style of rivet instead was genius. You’ve made a sub out of me my friends. Looking forward to seeing more of your work as I’m cruising through your library…😉 Thanks for taking us along, it was fun, 👍🏼👍🏼 from this guy!

As a youth, I saw many of these along with large wood-burning kitchen stoves in the rural areas where we lived. We had minimal electricity as our only utility.
You did a marvelous job in restoring this one. Cast Iron has a life span measured in light years.
A lot of nasty work made this well worth the effort.
    Thanks!

I did, but then I was an amateur geologist starting at age 10. It was one of the first things I learned about mica.
We had a stove exactly like this one down to the color my grandparents farm in Alabama. It was great for keeping feet toasty warm.
