Daniel Fisher, Sweetwater’s master of Moogs, gives a quick recap of the latest features and then relishises the sounds of this reborn classic! The Minimoog Model D reshaped modern music by making synthesized music compact and affordable - an unprecedented move for the time. The 2022 Minimoog Model D now returns with its original circuit path, three punchy oscillators, and Moog’s legendary Ladder Filter. Sweetwater management, please give Daniel one of these mighty maschines for in his home, I mean the man is a legend like the Moog and he deserves this as a bonus after all the synths he sold for you guys, right? Thanks for the demo!
I'm pretty sure at home Daniel is a synth king. He probably gets company discounts on this stuff and let me tell you, company discounts can be SIGNIFICANT, especially with Moog. (The Guitar Center discount pretty much cuts the price in half)
Daniel probably has the whole System-55 at home.
@@auxorion We want to see a video of his home now, don't we? ;-)
@j s I see it clearly in my head, it must be true.
Yes!! Vote Daniel for employee of the year and gift him one of every synth and product he reviews.
Daniels pillows aren't really made of normal human fluff n puff, they are comprised of extremely high rate LFO's well beyond the audio spectrum, vibrating at the exact correct frequency in which to defy the very laws of physics, the gravity that most of us succumb to each night, and instead oscillate at the golden ratio that supports his valuable noggin throughout the waning of the moon, through to the first rays of the dawning sun...thus enabling complete readiness for the next day of critical and crucial synthesis demonstration & analysis to pass on to the faithful, patient, yet hungry, yearning plebian masses.
This paired with a Fender Rhodes is the ultimate high 🙌🏾
Wow, best way to describe the sound is organic, real, liquid, woody, historic, iconic.
Thos e liquid/organic sounds are what I live for
The Oberheim is back. The Prophet 5 is back and now the Minimoog Model D. Does this mean music will get better? I sure hope so. Even by itself it's masterful. The possibilities with these things are enormous.
Music has not gotten better, it has gotten worse. Guitarists refuse to play through tube amps. They play through laptops, and it sounds like it. Hendrix would laugh at you, and rock through his 3 full Marshall stacks. My buddy said his Hammond b3 soft synth sounds as good as my 1963 b3 through a Leslie. I ghosted and blocked him. I have 2 original minimoogs. 1973, 1974, and a walnut reissue. At 5000, i think they are worth every penny. When they quit making them, the guy in New York will sell them for 12,000. He already is. Why would you skimp on your craft/art?
@@mattdelany6799 The guy in NY TOO FUNNY ! LOL I know exactly who your talking about lol 😂
Would be a great retro set up with those three!
I could never afford that. Only rich and famous people can
Music would get better if maybe good gear could be affordable to the average joe.
tracks featuring the sounds of the model D is what initially made me fall in love with synthesizers. For me when I think analog synth......this is it. Whats insane is that this circuitry was born in 1970 its still super relevant today and a whole new generation of sonic explorers is coaxing amazing sounds from this beauty. Timeless really.
Very astute comment. This synth will last you a lifetime. For all those who are concerned about the price - you will be using this beautiful synth for the next 40 plus years.
I got hooked on wanting one when I heard Josef Skrzek from SBB doing his thing with it (late 70's great Polish trio). In my own opinion, nobody mastered Minimoog better than him. Under his fingers, it became a dynamic monster that superbly blended into SBB music that I still dig to this day.
Nothing sounds like it.
I have one sitting at Sweetwater waiting for me to pick up - finally! My lifetime dream. Another jewel in form of Taurus 3 I bought last year, I spent 3 years hunting for one, and this came out of the blue. I immediately bought it because I knew I might never get another shot at it.
I didn't want to get it shipped to me - I want to pick it up in person. Hopefully in next two weeks.
Are they, tho’? Who are they?
Got the re-issue back in 2017 (?) and just love it. The Model D and Prophet 6 are a great combo.
Daniel Fisher with Moog is always a pleasure to see and hear.
i dont understand other than decades of expertise, how this guy can use those things to make satisfying sounds, like its just incredible
spreading love from england
Even the clicking noise when you turn it on is a satisfying sound. Everything about the Model D is satisfying.
Daniel is very experienced, but the instrument is something special.
Bcuz Daniel, just like this 🎹, is a legend himself
@@arcadeapocalypsemusic In the annals of synth nerd revisionist history, it was named the Model D in honor of Daniel.
Although I really love the minimoog sound and understand that the use premium quality materials, make it by hand and it will last forever. I think this is the new peak of the ridiculous price management by Moog. This clearly aims at collectors, hardcore fans or big studios or producers where money is not an issue.
For all the rest: I strongly think that 99% of us wouldn’t even be able to tell the difference of an original minimoog sound or eg the Behringer models in most of modern music mixes.
So sadly this I just a product where they try to make more money with a brand name and a 50 year old design.
Its even way over priced when compared to the rest of their lineup
@@christophercrimmins6143 it’s also a much more labor intensive protect to make. The other Moog synths use more modern printer circuit boards and this has more hand soldered individually assembled components. Is it worth it? Well that’s a different question. For some yes, for others heck no. I’ve always wanted one so I went for it.
Every time I see a synth video from Sweetwater in my feed, I know Daniel Fisher is about to do the best demo I've ever heard about that synth.
Still have the first Reissue. This thing will stand the test of time for sure. Something like 5 years now, still going strong, no issues. A lovely thing.
Yeah umm. I have plenty of synths that have been fine for 15 years! ha ha
@@nagchumpalot most of my 8+ year old synths look 8+ years old.. my sub 37 has yellow keys, buttons stopped working etc. The Model D is built like a tank, i doubt i’ll need to service it in 30 years
@@auxorion No denying it is a great piece..! I guess I´m just a little disappointed with the price.
@@nagchumpalot I notice all the synths are wayy up in price lately. I look at the synths coming out today and I feel like I'm pretty much done. I can't justify paying $2-5k on just about everything now. Synths I spent 1400 on are nearly 2000 now (like the Sub 37), I'm tapping out.
My home studio is gonna look like a snapshot of the 2010s, and I'm okay with that. I'm probably gonna unsubscribe from the synth YT channels too.. I just don't want to see it anymore, I'm done. No more GAS no more getting caught up in all that. I have more than enough and I'm moving on.
I actually feel sorry for people starting out right now, most synths are just so out of reach expensive.
@@auxorion Yes indeed I agree.. Just go make the music there are so many good synths out there.. Control your gas!
Honestly ive made my best tracks with Logic an Analog Rytm and an Access virus years ago. The rest is just want by no means need.
This thing sounds phenomenal!!!!! Beautiful Sci-Fi sounds with those effects pedals. The G.A.S. for the Model D is real!!!
It's amazing.. Designed in the 70's and still sounds good. When I can afford to buy one, I'll do.. I only have the Sub 37 now..
Daniel you are a legend!!!! Thanks for all the passion & spirit your bring to this Model D presentation!
My ideal synth sounds, from my dream synth…. $5,000 is a lot of money but that’s actually cheaper then the originals price when adjusted for inflation. Hopefully this sticks around for abit so I can buy it when I’m not a student. Cause I WANT this.
Synths like this (MiniMoog, P5 etc.) I call furniture. It will look nice sitting some place in the living room.
As always Daniel a joy to watch and hear.
Btw there are great stories about Bob told by Rick Wakeman and Herb Deutsch
you’d be an idiot to just leave it in your living room without playing it.
I really hope this beauty is in my studio soon, very soon. Thanks for the demo, as great as usual.
Daniel looks "a little bit happy" making noises with this synth, LOL.
Holy moly, that is how you throw a Demo party! Amazingly good and inspiring!! Thank you :)
I'm putting this on repeat for the week...
Best news of 2022 !!! Congrats Moog !!!
Man, sequential and moog both killing my bank account on the same day.
Mr. Fisher it is always a great day when you review equipment:)!!!! Great instrument for sure!
What a great time for synthesizer fans
Daniel's the maniel! Always with the best product demo's. Thank you!
Silly anecdote. I just realized after all these years that I still tune oscillators like I tune guitars. I always drop below and tune up. I don't know why I have to do that with VCO's but here we are... :D
I bought a model D reissue last time. For my 50th birthday. It is so so so…… much. I will never sell it and I use it all the time.
That was a cool 50th birthday gift ⚡🎹
3:51 Yup that's Forbidden Planet, the film sound effects/background noise, right there
Daniel gets his Styx on....Love it.....Sounds amazing!!!!
So glad you pronounced Moog correctly.
It's easy to correctly pronounce someone's name when you've hung out with them several times:-)

Sweetwater needs to have an annual Concert in their music hall of Daniel and a sale on synths at the same time for all who come....
Fantastic to see the Mini return. I am still waiting for Daniel's video for the OB-X8!
Hi Chip Booth. Here's my first OB-X8 video:

I will add this to my synthesizer wish list which is currently over $75,000
Lmao yess. My wish list is:
1. System-55
2. System-10
3. About 5x Minimoog Model D's (somehow poly-chained.. lol)
If I ever won the lottery, I think it would disappear in about 1 week.
@@HOLLASOUNDS I see buying this like and buying a classic car. Is newer stuff available, that can get you close. Yes but classics are classics.
@@HOLLASOUNDS and the following is a modified classic. If I had the money I know I would get one. The moog little phatty was the first analog synth I ever got to play. I instantly fell in love with the filters. While I do not own one, I would still buy both. And once my funds get to the right level I will own both.
@@HOLLASOUNDS When you see them / play them side by side, you realize why. The Model D is a masterpiece.
Behringer D is definitely an awesome alternative sound-wise. but can’t match the heft of the real thing
Those "sound effects" at 4:00 remind me of "Forbidden Planet". Fabulous!

Oh, it’s gorgeous in every way!
What a sound!! Thanks Daniel.

I just ordered mine. I am excited to have the opportunity to own one ❤
Incredible… passion outlives history…👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻⚡️⚡️✨✨
I’ve got the app, the Model D is a marvel. Relatively simple and intuitive to use but so many possibilities
The legend has returned
Daniel, you're a treasure. Bruce Haack would be proud! Thanks!
incredible demo once again
I have succumbed to the wonderful sounds (and history) that are embedded in this musical instrument. I asked my Sweetwater rep to put me on the list. I am assuming that this comes with a Daniel Fisher bot in the box to help me dial in the patches and help me produce the exact vibe I am looking for. If not, I guess that means I will spend the next year or two happily working on exploring all the nuances. It's a huge win either way. A big thank you to Moog for this release!!
Hi Mark. The closest thing we currently have to a Daniel Fisher bot is my SYNTH CLIPS series:

Thanks! I don’t believe I have seen those. I will take a look.
This is just awesome. I was always a little standoffish about the Minimoog. I suspect because of the price tag thing. But in this demo it's pretty clear why it's the king. I think you could do everything you need in modern dance production with just this. Gen Z trance (or any other kind for that matter)? No problem. Garage/speed garage/future whatever? Yep. Fifty thousand flavours of techno? Yep. Hardgroove? You kidding me? What I'm really saying is you just sold me on the Minimoog. And I think this proves minimalist workflow is the way if you want to actually make tracks (that is, one synth only). I didn't think anyone could convince me on the Minimoog but you just did.
Great demo, thanks!
Very Very Very intelligent machine. I would like to buy some of this models moog, I think that the loudspeakers in output, is very important to combine in the best sound many many thanks Daniel Fisher.
What a world class product demo.
The price is ridiculous!! 😂 more than a prophet 5 and same as an ob-x8 cmon Thats 😜 crazy
But thank you Daniel Fisher for an awesome demo as always
It’s a handmade analog synth with custom transistors.
@@onepointtwo500 i did not know that, so like a custom luthier guitar it is 5000.00 which makes sense in that light.
@@Fallingoverbackwards there’s less craftsmanship involved, but the electronics would make up the price. I think people underestimate how difficult it is to replicate 50 year old analog hardware. To get an idea, think about re-creating the sound of a guitar made from an extinct tree, with nylon and resin that haven’t been produced for half a century. Most people would say it’s not worth the effort, but Moog managed to do it in 2016. It was discontinued because they ran out of parts.
The OB-X8 seems justified now.
Great video as usual… I think I’d watch Daniel peeling potatoes I find his enthusiasm that engrossing..👍
Great demo Thanks
I heard Fooling Yourself by Styx for a second there. Gotta love it when Daniel quotes popular songs 👍
Daniel, would it be possible for you to make a demo video of the OB-X8? I’m sure many would be happy to see that. Also, the Minimoog Model D will never die.

Demon Dan! I'm getting dat itch for the Minimoog!!! It's really making my wallet feel incredibly fidgety! It's been tugging at me and shakin' in da pocket!
Great presentation Daniel

That sounds sick! Just like Any Colour you Like and Dogs solos
Really cool demo of such an iconic synth. Now I can see and hear why the Mini Moog is such a popular instrument. I nearly purchased one from a used music store back in 1988. However it's condition was questionable so I declined.
This dude is an insane synth player.
that wasnt a demo, that was a straight masterpiece
amazing synth
An excellent demo and a great channel. I wonder if someone could suggest the typical Rick Wakeman’s settings? I heard it’s 3 oscillators at once, covering 3 octaves and obviously, glide, but I’d appreciate some more specifics. Many thanks!
Splendid, gave my cans a great workout!
So tomorrow should be an upper body workout day, right?

Wow they finally brought it back!!!♥️♥️♥️🤖👾
A Flippin Amazing!!!!🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
🤔HEY! That looks JUST LIKE The Poly D! 😆What a gorgeous, legendary synth. Even tho I’ll never get to own one, so happy to see them do this
Gorgeous
thx, amazing video!
Daniel Fisher for president 🙌
Hi Charles. These days, I'd rather just make synth patches;-)

4:00 Love it!
Daniel is a master.
I do hope it’s not a limited production run again like in 2016 because I would love to get this beautiful thing sometime next year. Really excellent demo btw Daniel, such lovely sounds! 😍
Moog specifically stated it's being added to their permanent arsenal
@@christopherpederson1021I doubt it now I music bought Moog
My first Mini Moog was that same dark-colored wood I purchased used in 77, but I traded it in for a new Mini Moog because the used MM would go in and out of tune so much that it was embarrassing and frustrating to play. In the newer MM, I purchased in 78 the wood was very light in color, and thank goodness the oscillators were much more stable. I'm really surprised at the timing of this rerelease because the app is really good, and at one time Moog offered free downloads of the Model D app. I do miss my old original Mini Moog, but my clones and apps will have to do for now!
Richard Wright would be flabbergasted
Beautiful
Daniel is undoubtedly the star keyboardist on UA-cam. Also, these sounds are so Pink Floyd-ish
Here we go again 🥹 ❤
minimoogs are gr8! wait till you hear one thru a crystal matrix module.🤩
Daniel Fisher does it again, thanks for the demo Sweetwater! Vintage synth fans I kindly need your input, I found an alternative called the "E-Pro Mini Synth" made in Netherlands on reverb. Does anyone know of any reviews on this?
Massive sound, great improvements over the last reissue, it's pricey but compared to the used market that doesn't have this new features is relatively cheap.
Daniel as always makes great synth demos, he is an asset at Sweetwater.
What are the great improvements over the last reissue?
@@ZenMountain Spring loaded modwheel, expanded midi implementation, appalachian cherry wood.
@@spurv lol nice features for the price 😂

I would get one if I didn’t already have a Voyager.
Yea. For somebody who knows how to use it …. It’s a fantastic sound
If only i had Moog-Money to spend. But i'll probably just stick with my Behringer Poly D instead. But it's great to see the most definitive and most beautiful Synthesizer of them all (i am serious) return with a brand new batch of instruments.
Poly D is soo good
Poly D rocks and it has more options.
$5K of NOPE. But we love Dan and his expert demos.
wow, how, when, yes please.
Glad it’s back! Always odd to see the P Touch tape along the back panel. For 5k, no silk screening?
Happy times.
Have a Subsequent 37. Got a B stock for a few hundred less than new. Pre sets. Saving patches. Moog sound. A quarter of the price. I’m perfectly good.
Dig the post. Awesome they reissued it. Seems they took some ideas Behringer had for their Poly D, in the way of the top features, midi jacks, aftertouch, and the like.
The extra features are the same as in the 2016 reissue, which predates the Poly D. This is a reissue of that reissue. ☺️ Either one is a fabulous machine.
This Moog is literally 10X the price of the Behringer Poly D which has pretty much all the exact same sound capabilities and as much as I respect Moog I cant justify the cost of this.
the poly d is amazing love mine and you get an entire other oscillator
@@BossDrSample I so dig my Poly D too!
- Oh!I want that Model D
- But we already have a Model D at home!
Model D at home: Behringer's.
i bought it only whit preset and no more 2000
Well the one at home is sitting on top of a stack of $4700 I didn't need to spend, so there's that
And it's an amazing synth for a fraction of the price!!
@@pickyyeeter
The downside is
It's a Behringer.
I want the original moog that takes up you whole living room 😍
I'll always be weirded out not seeing the control panel tilted up. Seems pretty cool but I got a synth with super saw and my rev 2 16 voice has some mean detune
3:01 - listening through headphones. A brain masage.
Its It's obvious that Moog see how successful the Bahringer Model D and Poly D has been so now give people the option to have an Official new Moog 1 was the smartest thing to do.
@nebula393 Yes the Moog $5000 VS Behringer Model D at $250 or Poly D at $450 hardware (Sounds about 98% like a real Minimoog), or software Arturia Mini V $140 ( Kinda expensive for a soft syth imo but I got it free, not sure why).
4:05 perfect krull patch!
you were making that instrument sing.
I was that guy who scoffed at the price in 2016 and regretted it every day since. The second hand prices on the reissue are insane at present. Unfortunately, it seems Moog upped the price on this reissue by at least a grand as well. Oh well, I think I'll have to pay it this time around!
They got ya! Hook line and sinker..
I'm still kicking myself for not buying one used in the 90s for £800. I did use the money to buy a used TR-909 instead though!
Apparently the pitch wheel spring costs $1250
Unfortunately, it is one of those synths you will want to keep forever.
Exact same experience here. I think the last reissues were, what, $3500? So quite the price uptick on these. Oh well. Maybe these new ones will drive used prices down. One can hope...
I can imagine Gary Numan doing exactly the same thing in the 70’s and 80’s
Fantastic sounds 😊
Thank you for sharing👌🏻
I'm happy instruments of this quality are still being made today, even if they are really expensive. It would have made more sense (not to me haha) if they would have never returned.
