How on earth do you have that minimoog mounted? You scared me half to death when I thought it was going to hit the ground! Must be worth a few fair thousand.
This is really valuable because you are describing WHY you are choosing the settings, not just WHICH settings you are using like 90% of the synth programming videos I've seen. When you mimicked a bass being plucked whilst talking about the tiny bit of attack, and the sustain on the soulful bass patch, it was immediately obvious that you were recreating the amplitude envelope that plucking a string causes. Such great subtle but powerful teaching. Thanks 👍
The reason why i love the Minimoog is that it's the first Compact Synthesizer ever but it doesn't feel old or outdated. You don't see that often that the first model of an invention still is one of the best after over 50 years.
The Minimoog is simply a beauty of a synth, always loved it due to it's very distinctive bass sounds. This synth was and still is ahead of it's time. Simply legendary!
3 month ago i stumbled across your videos. Now i own 3 synthesizers and, thanks to you, know how to use them. Thank you so much for your explanations and inspirations. I am having so much fun playing the keys after almost 20 years of abstinence. Keep up the good work🎹
Great to watch you break down what us long-term owners learned instinctively over so many years. The MiniMoog Model D is still the greatest piece of space-age tech ever released onto musicians. I've done whole tracks (bar cymbals of course) with mine.
I really liked this video. Not only does he explain what he's setting the controls to, but he also explains why, so that you can understand more about how the minimoog works.
And as an addition to the Mini Moog vs Behringer D discussion: At the time the Behringer came out I decided to opt for the Roland SE-02 instead as the price difference wasn't that much and the SE has a lot of additional features, Sequencer, cross modulation, preset storage and build in delay, to name a few. I really would recommend to take a look at it.
I read a french book from Laurent de Wilde (French musician, radio animator and more), title is : les fous du son (sound freaks). In particular, he talks about Bob Moog, the creator of the minimoog. Many thanks for this video, which demonstrates your talent and this incredible instrument! I'm a guitarist and I've been discovering the world of synthesis for some time now, and I'm a fan! Hello from France 🇫🇷 🎸😎
I actually thought for a while that the Minimoog was out of date. I can definitely revise that. This machine is still a very good synthesizer today, which leaves almost nothing to be desired.
The Minimoog is mind blowing, super entertaining watching and hearing you manipulate it. The machine is nothing without someone like you that knows how to make it do whatever... endless sounds. Excellent enthusiasm. You got a new subscriber!
Another wonderful video. I just love your bright enthusiasm. However, as an old school tech, I need to mention one trick you might just have forgotten. Probably invented by Jan Hammer: Take a jack cable, and feed the low output back into the external nput, tweak the level so that the external input overload light is just flickering. You now have a built in overdrive to the filter, dirties up the sound really well. If you listen to some of Jan Hammer's work maybe on Billy Cobhams 'Stratus', you might hear it. Thanks for an inspiring video. I need to get my 'Crowminius' DIY clone finished.
great content from u as always! i was surprised to discover you’re based in London, where i too live! hopefully i’ll see you somewhere some day, would be amazing !
Great stuff and very inspiring as always. I managed to rebuild the sounds 1:1 on my SE-02, with the difference that it has an LFO section, so I used that instead of OSC3.
I love to play with my Moog, Bob Moog is for me one of the most important engineers of music instruments, he is a real part of Music evolution. Since the out coming of the Minimoog at the early 70s, The music world without Moog is unthinkable.
Always fun and entertaining to watch! You have to admit though, a lot of the classic minimoog performances come down to solid playing and technique. These days quite a few synths can bring you that sound, but the minimoog's quirks even force you to play a certain way (like the fact that the envelopes won't re-trigger).
Hahaha I just executed all the instructions right away :D Thubs up, bell (because it turned out the bell wasn't engaged... which is a crime) and all right away. Claudio you're such a persona 😂 Much love!
One of the first songs I remember that had a bunch of synthesizer and other keyboard work on it was from the Steve Miller band - Fly Like an Eagle. The space ship sounds were very memorable still to this day. I would have to say that song started my interest in electronic music. I discovered all the other bands that used a lot of electronic synthesizer sounds after hearing the original Steve Miller version of Fly Like an Eagle. I would like to see a deep analysis on how they did the keyboard work on that track.
Nice catch!😲 I sometimes use "tool kit liner" to stack stuff. Its a rubber material that is cheap, easy to cut, porus (heat) and really holds stuff in place. Fun video as always👊
I played one in my band in college and I loved that thing... except when it went haywire in the middle of a song! But I still use Minimoog inspired sounds to this day. Great video as is ALWAYS the case.
What an excellent video. Couldn't resist more than 30 seconds, pulled my synth out and went with you along that :) I don't have a moog, but the MiniBrute can get really close.
@@markwelsh9068 The mini Moog is very simple and does the bread and butter sounds better than any synth. it also has the best building blocks the oscillators and the filter are a thing of beauty. this was only a demonstration of common sounds which were created and used a lot. you can do very subtle organic sounds like flutes harps bagpipes and plucks. add some reverb to those sounds and they sound like the real instruments they are synthesizing. they're a fantastic film score synth and only the CS80 can compare to the organics and the beauty they're epic sounding.

Love the mini - I bought mine about 10 years ago - it has no keyboard installed, so I run it with a MIDI to CV converter, but that fits my workflow ever better so... Bonus?? Bonus!! MIDIMini, the hard way...
I understand 0 of music, but I know I like what i ear you play. I love the 80's e early 90's music, like music from the original Miami Vice and so. Some of the high notes even reminded me of the music from the early arcade games, and first Sega consoles games music. Very nice
Wow it sound incredible! ... you know I always play your videos. Some times at the beginning i didn't understand too much but finally you make it! I don't know how i got involved in the songs you play... bro you are really an artis 💪
I have the Poly D. Highly recommended if you want to get your feet wet. The mini moog is definitely warmer and better quality overall but the Poly D does the same thing. A very cool and useable toy for making music.
Your studio is pushing me to break a commandment😈(Covet) and turning me a shade of👽. I guess I will have to play a few verses of Hallelujah and find some rosary beads to chuck over my shoulder.😇 Play On

its in the top ten of all time easy lol.
@@lowlowseesee It is in the Top 10, but there were better Synth´s which Georgio Marauder used...
From Herbie Hancock to Claudio, the MiniMoog and Rhodes combination is always super great sounding and looking!
I can listen to your Rhodes playing all day long. Their was a time when the Rhodes was all over the airwaves…miss those days.
Your enthusiasm always puts a smile on my face 🙂
Great that you are showing everything on an oscilloscope, helps a lot with understanding the sound character.

great video for people who only heard a mini. I still have mine I bought in 79 used and she is still rocking today.
Great to watch you break down what us long-term owners learned instinctively over so many years.

Right? It’s really a timeless piece of equipment and just as relevant today as when it first appeared.
I really liked this video. Not only does he explain what he's setting the controls to, but he also explains why, so that you can understand more about how the minimoog works.
I'm not a musician, but I think the minimoog is the coolest instrument ever.
Words cannot describe how happy I am that you got one of these to show us the ways! Dr. Mix 🐐
Moog is a beautiful friend for a lifetime
Adam Holzman did some great work on Moog on my actual album😀
Thanks! I enjoy all your content and enthusiasm!
Awesome, thank you!
The original and one the absolute best!!! Love it. ❤️❤️❤️

Loving the Minimoog... Especially Stephan Bodzin's tunes with this synth making his signature sound...
Wakeman and Doctor mix are my favorite players ever :) quite different styles, but both showing why mini moog came for :)
I just love shine on with that perfectly balanced cut-off and attack and vibrato more than anything
No one can beat Dr Mix - always great entertainment and informative - I always smile. 😊❤

Amazing!!🤩 My Moog Prodigy is always with me since 35 years..🥰 and i love it!!
Well done!! Covers a wide variety of sounds . Thank you!!
Minimoog the sacred beast, thanks Maestro Claudio

Love it all ! Thank you for these great videos, Dr. Mix.
I haven't used one of these in a while. This video brings back great memories.
3:34 The "Soulfull Bass" would be a great replacement for the "Lately Bass" of the TX81Z known from most of the 90's Eurodance tracks... :-D
Excellent video!
I was 100% certain @12:00 you were gonna play "You dropped a bomb on me.", but what you did play was also awesome.
