Yeah. Totally agree with this.
1. Always check the balance of both your LABORERS, and BUILDERS to your work-able population. Your city will die if you have shortage with these two.
2. Making spaces for decorations in housing areas - Yeah, definitely. Have wells/parks/garden/market/church/healer near the houses will increase desirability.

Thanks for the excellent tips.
I've always re-started before tier three (only played a few times). This time, I'm cramming shelters together, with a few decorations and services to boost the desirability.
I get as much tax as possible, and it's just desirable enough to begin upgrading shelters to houses..
Later, I'll relocate clumps of houses and thin some out, to add more decorations etc. I'm hoping the cost of later relocations is less than the extra I gained from starting with dense housing.
Glad it helped😄 It was the same with me at the beginning... felt like such a mission to get the desirability up...
And yes, you get way more tax with higher tier houses! With that being said, you also have to make sure their needs are met. Then you can do what you said. Open up spaces at random spots to increase desirability.

My farmers all idle every year, until i save reload. Does anyone knows how to fix that?
Sounds like an old bug that has been there before. Someome once said that their problem was fixed by switching off the autofill for professions and then manually placing them in

YOU MUST HAVE TOOLS AND RESOURCES. RESOURCES ALONE WITHOUT TOOLS AND YOUR CITY IS DEAD AND PEOPLE WILL MOVE OUT.
When you scroll over damaged buildings info bar, you will see which resources you require. Tools make everything more efficient, even repairing. It is needed for laborers mining stone outside of work camp, but not for repairing building.
