By building a new religion, Akhenaten will be able to cut the influence of the High priest, as they used religion to influence the people.. but let's not forget that the Pharaoh is a living god for the Ancient Egyptians, so by founding a new religion, they ensuring that they will get a greater influence than the priests of Carnac....

Maybe the Amarna period is comparable to Henry VIII and the Reformation. When the dominant religion encroached too deeply on the king, it was time for the king to dominate the powerful, established religion. Maybe it is that simple.
Just a minute there were one or two others on the scene before Horemheb, and one of those was the son of Akanahton, Tutankhamun, or has he been forgotten

For me this gives credence to the Biblical narrative of Moses coming into Egypt and totally defeating the gods of Egypt in the name of YHWH (the God of the Hebrews). Akhenaten's father, Amenhotep III acknowledged the existence of the people of YHWH at his temple at Soleb. Akhenaten realized the gods of Egypt were powerless against the God of Moses and he needed a god equal to YHWH, so he worshipped the one god Aten. The acknowledgement of YHWH by Amenhotep III and Akhenaten's actions gives credence to the Biblical account where one man Moses thru the God YHWH totally embarrassed Pharaoh and all the gods of Egypt.

@@ryandavis962 Egypt had all these gods for hundreds of years. Suddenly after acknowledging the people of YHWH in Canaan, the Pharaoh totally abandons all the gods of Egypt. Something/someone caused total chaos on the gods of Egypt. The Bible gives an explanation for the cause. The God of the Bible totally destroyed the gods of Egypt. This gives credence for Moses and the Exodus.
When will people start doing documentaries about the sumarians, they are the earliest known civilization and their 'mythology' is supported by science.
Not true Akhenaten may have founded a religion but it was not the first religion in history. He probably got the idea of monotheism from the Isrealites worship and belive in one God the creator of all things. How in the world can any one compare an Egytion preist to Moses or Yashewa. Hard to study astronomy only looking at the Sun. He apparently was NOT an astronomer or he would not have attempted to delete the Moon, Stars, Constellations, Planets and thier respective deities. Now, unfortunately, most only know the shadows, the "gods" and "god men", devoid of the actual phenomena to which they correlate-for memory and instructional purposes . For croess sake TRAGIC.

Whereas space is a far away separate realm of planets and suns and galaxies to modern Western civilization, the ancient people's of the world lived as if surrounded intimately by the cosmos. The stars were not felt as strange unknowns They we're intimately involved with studying the cosmos, as their lives and crops and fortunes were ruled by the cosmos. Bushmen in Africa assigned a star to their newborn babies.
It makes sense, though, when you consider the sun ruled all life on earth. Why muddy it up with other deities when you can have one sole power and poke your thumb in the priest of the priests of Thebes?
We don't know how much Akhenaten knew about astronomy. Probably the ancients knew more about astronomy than we realize...look at the pyramid that is oriented toward Sirius and the knowledge

have come across some shocking scripture that we ALL need to pray about. In Matthew 11, Jesus praises John The Baptist as the greatest man born of woman, but then follows that by saying that John is LOWER than the LEAST in the kingdom of heaven,😳, of course I had to go back to the beginnings for context. Jesus tells how John witnessed miracles and heard the good teachings, yet when faced with death, John questioned whether Jesus was the Messiah or should he keep looking for another. It’s a cautionary tale to US... We too will face death for the witness of Christ ((John 16:2). WHAT WILL YOU DO?
