when and why we would particularly use S + Reporting Verb + to infintive rather than S + Reporting verb + ____ ing?

Is there a way or a hint we can follow to know when a verb is a to infinitive or a ing verb, or we will learn it naturally?

Why we put 'we' instead of 'they " in minute 6:56

What about the tenses inversion . Does it not change like for the verb "said"?

    Thanks for the clear explanation!!
But I got a question, don't we normally reset a sentence syntactically after "that"? I mean, the clause after that is a subordinate sentence, which can have its own subject again, so why did you write "That" + OBJECT?
    Am I missing something?
Another question: Why didn't you change the verb tense in your last sentence about the café? Isn't it another reported situation?
    Thanks again for the explanation!

When we use 'that' we do tend to add and object but that rule is important with 'say' and 'tell' sentences in particular. Also, remember that the 'that' can be omitted. With the final sentence you could change the tense but it's not essential to do so. As you will have seen with the sentences in this lesson, reporting verbs are less sensitive to tense change in comparison with 'say' and 'tell'
