  • In this stream clip I answer a question about activating the Razor edit tool with a shortcut instead of clicking in the main toolbar.
The action is actually called "Mouse Modifiers: Toggle arrange view mouse modifiers override B".
Armed actions run with every left-click. To arm an action usually this is done by right-clicking the toolbar icon, but it can also be done from the action list.
You may want to try the action "Action: Toggle arm next action" within a custom action, along with one or more additional commands.
    Thanks for watching!

Awesome thanks - this stumped me since R7 update - I'm a trackpad user so no right drag...

Reaper is pumping out updates faster than you can create a video... LOL

Very cool, never looked much into armed actions. I've got razor edit and time selection mapped to right drag. I use them for pretty much all audio editing at this point.
Clicking the edit box splits an item at the start / end of a selection, G will remove time inside of edit, and D will delete contents of edit. I find it easier to just delete via razor than to grab the edges of an item and trim.
    Cheers 🙌

Just thought it would be awesome to have a right-click function on any button in the daw, "show action" which takes you to the corresponding action.. although its also fun having to dig a bit

Meanwhile I’ve always used razor edit + time selection as my default left click drag behaviour for area selection. I come from using Live and Pro tools so manually switching to razor edit every time would be a bummer move… for me at least

I try it once in a while. Usually don't render much with it. I don't record a lot of original music. I generally split items, or automate stuff. It might be wise to use it.

Alt Right Drag does not work for me...Ok, ok...I've been REALLY trying to configure Reaper for 2 weeks now. Taking small breaks in between frustrations and victories. This seems absolutely silly - in another DAW (who's name I will not mention), I press "R" for Razor, "W" for the regular cursor, etc etc. What on earth does Reaper make this SOoooo difficult. Who would've thought this is what the Razor is called? Forgive me, I'm truly trying and eager to get this...thank you so much

Why on earth would they call it something so obscure in the actions list??? That is straight up nonsense and needs to be changed. Thanks for the video though, definitely a huge help. I'm currently learning Reaper and that's the kind of nonsense that's making life real hard...Great DAW of course. ATTN DEVS: most musicians don't do cryptic very well...

That's just the default assignment and icon for the mouse modifier override. There are ABCD that you can set up any way you like for the arrange.
Most users will be fine with just clicking the button as needed.

@TheREAPERBlog Thanks for the reply. I'm a beginner so I don't understand ABCD. I've seen the mouse modifier dialogue but don't understand the distinction your making. Probably too much to explain here. From my perspective, it shouldn't be that obscure of a label. Most people like me who are trying to learn this will never figure things like that out on their own. There is a lot to dive into here and confusion like this compounds the learning curve exponentially. Not blaming you of course...
