Bob, a saw a video, [plant abundance ] harvest his worm casting without sifting his worm casting. He took one side of the tub and stop feeding the worms and the worms moved to the other side of the tub side and was able to empty the worm casting without sifting so much easier on your back and a lot less work. Happy farmer and happy worms and after the side is emptied you add new bedding and food and you can repeat the process and have great worm casting for your farm. Good 🤞
Hi - I have a wicking bed vegetable garden made out of IBC totes. I have also been vermiposting in a separate tote. I am wondering if I can combine this by burying a bucket with holes to feed food scraps into (sort of like a keyhole) and add worms into the mix. Would this work? I live in San Antonio Texas - maybe a little hotter than in Georgetown - but I suspect similar soil heat (I shade cloth in heat of summer), and potential freeze concerns with a wicking bed. Has anyone combined the two... in a large space so the warm farm in wicking bed works alongside the veggies growing?
Well we really like your little helper. It does a real good job. Besides he's learning a lot. Which is very good. Thanks for the video. You're like me if you don't lose weight it'll kill you.
Thank you on a side note. I hope you have an oxygen monitor for you finger. I can hear you labor when breathing just sitting. Please see a nutritionist and get rid of the belly. I just watched the video when you made the first video and this one. Sorry if I'm sticking my nose 👃 in you business. You remind me of a dear old friend. Thank you for what you do
I had same health issues...I follow Nutritarian diet & Dr Esselstyn advise. Dropped 50 lbs & walk 2 miles everyday. Please, Keto is very bad advice for people with heart & breathing issues. No salt, oil & sugar in diet.
I do the same thing you do here but in a two step process first with a larger mesh to remove larger material such as rocks and large sticks or other undecomposed waste. I sift that as you do here then into a similar mesh screen you've made but I just take a length about big enough to go over the top sides of that tote bin but still provide a but if a bowl for the material to drop into. This for me was a very low cost quick and easy way to do this and helps to removed heavy materials quickly that may damage the worms. Also doing it this way makes harvesting worms during the second step much easier as there's less material to have to pick through to get them. After an our of sifting this way without the 2 x 4 frame im tired. I can't see myself using that frame for more than 10 minutes before I'm exhausted. Keeps you from getting cut on sharp bits of wire mesh fairly well though. I'd also consider let the material dry out a bit more I find that helps the process go by more quickly.
I've seen a good design where the guy used black drainage pipe the one with the tracks in it and set up some cheapo plastic wheels that he screwed down to a frame just like the one you've constructed. The wheels line up so you can run them in the groove on the pipe well it rest on the wheels. Then he lined the drain pipe with mesh and put larger holes all throughout it or it may have come perforated I can't remember but that would be a very quick low cost way to upgrade your current design friend.
You could make a boarder inside the one you have to make it smaller, hang it frm somthing with cable and or springs, strap a vibrating sander to it it will be faster.thank you
I find that I don't need a wicking bed for my worms as they have plenty of moisture without it. I find that I can't even give them "worm smoothies", as it also adds too much moisture. The perfect form I've found for their food is to just grind it up in the food processor without any added liquid. I check the moisture level and add shredded newspaper or coco coir if it's too dry. Of course, I don't have to fight fire ants and my bin is in a cool outdoor shed. So I guess we adapt to our environments as best we can.
I see a lot of that white paint has come off do you still feel the white is necessary after your experience with it? In Arizona here and looking to do this. I’ve got an inside diy stacked bin using the smaller totes and I’m looking to sink a worm tower into a garden bed and getting going bigger on the worm bin outside with the wicking bed potentially. Thanks for sharing your experience on these. Great build video too
Yo Bob, Check out the snake juice diet. (electrolyte water) I dropped a ton doing that method and it was easy as hell. Took tons of weight off my knees and joints, and got the energy back. Everything got easier brother! everything!

Nice video! Are you going to be making more videos this summer?

Your grandson has your eyes. He did a good job helping you.
Good video. Hope you are well Bob.

Do you ever have to add more dirt to the worm farm?
Never add dirt, just keep adding compostable material
Great idea for separating the castings from worms but I’d like a few other ideas as is so important .
“Like panning for Gold”
Yea me too
Hallsome Farm Bob just saw this video , I’m not sure if all worm species follow this same. ua-cam.com/video/aii524-gqzU/v-deo.html But I’ll try !!
@HallsomeFarm Hope you guys are ok.

Yes paint it white, plants get the temperature from their roots if the totes get too hot the plants will die. I need to repaint some totes myself.
Thanks. I really enjoy your channel. Very practical content.
Thanks for watching
Great helper!
2'x2' would fit well over a wheelbarrow.
:-)
Good idea
Bob have you ever heard of KNF? (Korean Natural Farming ) there are some good methods you might want to emploment in your garden. Great job man👍
Good to see you! Congrats on the new camera! Good content! Looking for more. Thank you.
Thanks Theresa
