- Continuing on the proud tradition of Intro & Gameplay, I present to you;
Star Trek: Tactical Assault
It's a fun but flawed game. It honestly really doesn't matter much if you play the PSP or the NDS version of the game aside from that you get better graphical fidelity with the PSP version of the game.
As a Star Trek fan, I only recommend these games for the story really since they take place around Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country and leads into those events. And if you want really fun, use the cheat codes to access the Romulan ships that are incredibly overpowered.

Damn, this game was the shit. Wish they would remake this. One of the only Star Trek ship games that actually felt like Star Trek.
I have to disagree on this. Using a cheat to unlock the other ships, there's virtually no change between them. The Constitution have the same orange beam when it should be blue.
It is a good game, but there's other games that feel more like Trek. Other games I suggest to you would be: Star Trek Conquest ( _uses the same engine as this game, I have a video of that game as well_ ), Star Trek Legacy, Bridge Commander and Bridge Crew.
I also have to agree conquest is the best star trek game ever made. Gameplay, visuals all the way down to the soundtrack.
@@supertrippyjohng I said, no such thing. It is CERTAINLY NOT the best Star Trek game ever made.
But it is a fun one. Too bad the AI is collectively braindead in that game.
@@Zeithri good for you
Have you checked out the Starfleet Command series by Interplay and Activision?
Gameplay-wise they're similar to Tactical Assault.
Had this game when I was about 4 years old and had no clue what I was supposed to do
I appreciate that you uploaded this. I stumbled upon a reference to it elsewhere, and I'd never heard of it, which felt weird since I've played quite a few ST games over the years. As in the other comments, def a super-simplified version of SFC. But that's not a bad thing: it is what it is and I think should be played for what it is: a fun romp shoot'em'up, and that's okay. It was nice to see the theme of still trying to be Starfleet and talk it out first also, so the ideas are still there. Honestly looks pretty light-hearted and fun
It is def. adequate. It has interesting ideas like warping from place to place, and difficulty ramps up quiet high later on.
The cheat you can push in to let you fly Romulan ships is nicd since those ships are amazing.
The psp version is a bit disappointing however as I thought it'd be voice acted, but it isn't, making one question why to play that when its just the same as NDS except slightly better graphics.
@@Zeithri Fair enough on all points; thanks for the reply!

Played a lot of this game on the DS when it came out. Was nice to have Star Trek fun and adventure with me wherever I went. It's still a great game with a great story, great campaigns and great characters. The multiplayer battles are fun, too.
I agree! Up until recently when I was making a replay for a playthrough of this ( _still in the render cue_ ), I thought this game took place during Star Trek VI The Undiscovered Country. But no, it takes place between The Motion Picture and Wrath of Khan. That felt a bit off to me. Still, a fun game that succeeds in making you feel the Trek vibes.
I remember asking my mum to get me a Star Wars game for my psp as a bday present. She pulled the ol’ Star Wars = Star Trek move. I loved this game regardless.
It is a good game if you approach it for what it is. It could had been a little bit better, longer, Romulan storyline, voice acting on psp ( _Nds was voiceless, I expected psp to be voiced, disappointed when I learned it wasn't_ ). But it's still a good game.
Though in my recent playthrough of this game, I learned that it takes place between TMP and WoK while I thought it took place before TUD.
8:00 Damn all that spinning ! Urrk ... there goes my lunch.
You should stay away from my Air/Ace Combat videos then x3

Been playing this recently on the DS. The PSP definitely has better visuals , but I do like the touch screen command controls better for the DS.
Wish we could combine those 2 versions .
Agreed. The PSP version disappointed me as I expected it to have voice acting. I kinda mentally thought of it as "Well the NDS isn't as spaced as a PSP is so it'll be nice with some endgame cutscene and voice acting to improve on it."
But nooope.
All in all the NDS version is the superior one.
Just annoying controls.
This reminds me of Starfleet Command back when it was out for Windows 95
Wouldn't be too much a longshot indeed. This game has a lot in common with the Starfleet Command games except being more streamlined for PSP/NDS.
( _Also let's take a moment to appreciate that the Dreadnought Federation-class from the novel Dreadnought! is actually in the game. The three-nacelle ship with a more hexagonal saucer!_ )
Indeed, and since that game isn't working on Windows 10 for me, this game is about the only way to relive those memories for me. It's quite fun too.
@@Zeithri I think it would in fact be a "longshot".
Starfleet Command is a game with deep tactical variety and possibilities. This looks like zero tactics to me, just turning around and firing phasers and torpedos non-stop.
It's like an arcade version of SFC, with the only similarities being shield, movement and camera mechanics. Correct me if I'm wrong.
I didn't see any damageable internal systems, tractor beams, transporting marines, mines, missiles, shuttles, commanding other ships, electronic counter measures, overloading torpedos, proximity torpedos etc.
Again, this game looks like SFC but plays nothing like it.
@@floatingchimney No you are correct. This is what I meant. In that regard, this game is far closer to SFC than other Trek games because it uses the same 2D-plane of thinking. It only drastically simplifies all other elements to " _ha ha spaceship go boom_ ".
@@Zeithri Yay, I'm not the only person who read that book!
