      It’s definitely amazing the lengths some of us have gone to in order to find or diagnose a disorder or disease that isn’t there to begin with! The only DISORDER is in our thinking and with that acknowledgement we can finally move forward and reach a place of peace.

    This is so good to hear!
    There is hope! I’m feeling more optimistic about my insomnia and anxiety as time goes on. My insomnia got triggers with major worry and anxiety and some personal issues. But getting past those issues the insomnia is still here a bit,
    But as I said, becoming less worried about sleep. And trying to get on with life. Like you said , don’t go to the battle!

      Hi Mario,
      You know, I say everyone with insomnia are experiencing fear/anxiety. Or in other words, insomnia is just a surface manifestation of fear just like palpitations. And what you learn about insomnia, it applies to all emotions I believe.
      Let me share some more on this Mario:
      What impact depression and anxiety have are very common questions. And a lot of people wonder if they can sleep well when they are depressed or when they have anxiety. People also often ask if insomnia will cause them to be more depressed or have more anxiety.
      I think of it in a very different way. I think that depression or anxiety or chronic fatigue or insomnia all come from the same place - a place of avoidance.
      The human experience is full of discomfort. And a lot of that is emotional discomfort. Sadness for example has a practical purpose, is there so we play dead when we face overwhelming odds. Anxiety is there for safety when we are facing and I’m certain threats.
      Now our human brains are survival machines and they are always there to keep us safe. But nowadays, when there is less physical traits around us, the brain can easily get confused.
      When the brain starts looking at sadness as a threat, a problem, something that we have too much of, something that we need to get away from, that’s when the sadness gets really sticky.
      Just like the more we try to escape from wakefulness the more insomnia we have, the more we try to escape sadness the more depressed we become.
      And when we try to escape the emotion of anxiety, we become more and more anxious. It is very similar to how when we try to escape thoughts that are unpleasant, when we try to shut off the brain, we get racing thoughts.
      So I think it is very helpful to apply everything you learn about insomnia to depression or anxiety and you’ll find it really helpful I believe.
      And learning, you don’t have to join any program for this. All the information is here on the channel. Coaching is only if you’d like some more help connecting the dots.

    Great content ! I just found out one interesting thing which i never thought of before - sleepdrive is overpoerring also physical pain i always thought you have to be feeling well in order to sleep. I slept fine even when i was in pain (eyestrain and headaches) after i woke up pain was back but not intense. Regards Georg

      Hi Georg and thanks for being in touch! You know, it could be Sleep drive but I think perhaps it’s more simply that shift of focus. I remember someone on the channel sleeping well when his worries shifted to abdominal things. When our mind is busy solving one problem, then other things are off the radar and don’t bother us much. Which goes to say that if we have problems we enjoy solving, like playing gold or creating art or whatever it is.. then many things bother us less!

      @@chriscarrion8018 Hi Chris, sorry for hijacking this thread but I wanted to say thank you for sharing this story. I’m in a really dark place right now and it gave me a slight bit of hope hearing someone else was there too mentally and got better so maybe I can too. Can I ask what helped you the most with the anxiety/mental part of your journey? I know the theory behind all this and did the education part of insomnia but the anxiety is still so overwhelming and it sounds like you were there too.

      Hi Maja! I’m sorry you’re in a dark place now but hang in there! It does get better! In the end what helped me was truly coming to terms with having to let go completely of all the attachments and desires I had in place around sleep. I had built a wall of protection around me but that wall was actually keeping me from getting to that better place! My anxiety really wanted to be felt so we made a mutual agreement. I agreed to feel it and listen to it and in return it would leave me alone. It does take some practice and time but it can absolutely be done!

    This is so like me. I went to the ER and was admitted. Never, never do I want to do that again! It was so bad, so noisy and they kept checking on me constantly. My troubles that sent me there started when I stupidly but lovingly slept in the bed with our aging dog that had senility so that he wouldn't keep us up by walking around all night. It was lie sleep deprivation totrture.

    would you consider insomnia to be in the category of compulsive disorders? like it's compulsive to reach for a new substance or supplement to ease the distress or compulsively thinking about what couldve caused a sleepless night?

      Hi Sunada,
      You know if you listen to Talking insomnia 66 and 67 you’ll hear Andreas share his ideas which are mine also. There is no disorder, just a brain that wants to keep us safe.
      I think the reason we have recurring thoughts and a desire to release tension by doing something comes from the same place as the struggles we call insomnia or anxiety. So yes I think they all come from the same place!
      And like Andreas when you abandon the struggle on one from, soon you’ve abandoned the entire thing and peace happens!

    Would you say the majority of people you treat for insomnia eventually overcome it? I have not been down the rabbit hole in 3 years but it is always in the back of my mind that it can happen again, especially after a night of not so perfect sleep. However I was not aware of you or martin reed back when I was going through it.

      Hi! I would say first that I don’t treat anyone, I just provide education and support. And also, that you know, to me it’s not something to overcome, it’s more something that stops existing when there’s no confusion or worry. But yes, when that worry isn’t there, when we know whatever is happening is normal, then there’s no more struggle. I have no statistics, but my experience has been that when you’re ready to learn and find some courage within…. Peace happens!

    Thanks for this video. You have helped me a lot, Daniel. Iv had insomnia a few times and came out of it with your help, your book. I tappered off of lex@pro 2 years. I just fully came off 11 days ago. Horrible withdrawals even with a slow tapper. Insomnia started last night. That is a withdrawal syptom as well. Im going to practice what you teach and what iv learned. Pray for my mind, and my body will level out and heal again.

    Your Chanel and books have helped me so much. Thank you for your wonderful work.
    Allow me to ask you a question - I mainly sleep well when I’m alone these days and even during speed bumps I manage to accept them mostly.
    My insomnia started a year ago when sleeping with my boyfriend. He snores at times and after a few nights no sleep I found myself in this circle.
    My boyfriend barley stayed owner since then. Now that I’m mostly sleeping better by myself we are trying to give this a try again. As soon as we do I find myself in total hyperarousal. I completely freak out and panic cause I’m scared and don’t know how to overcome this together. He is very supportive but I don’t manage to calm myself down when he’s in my space. I’m totally lost with how to approach this as I would love to have a normal relationship where we wake up together and fall asleep. I’m at a point where I don’t even dare to try anymore as this is very stressful for him aswell. What would you advise? I really try to apply the same things as when I’m alone but it just does seem so much harder and it’s backfiring. I’m so frustrated .. :(

      So happy it’s helped Denise and you know, both “I can’t sleep with my partner which is what I want” and “I can’t sleep without my partner and I want to be able to do that” are very very common.

    In the past I've had insomnia for like 3 months at a time and it resolved itself eventually. Now it's back and I barely slept this week. I called in sick from work today because I'm so exhausted. This night i was very tired and almost fell asleep but my body keeps waking me up with hypnic jerks/ fast heartbeats. Eventually I passed out and slept for about 2 hours and now it's 9 am. What can I do?

    My insomnia is 3 weeks in started with 2-3 hours now without meds I get only 1-1.5 hour is my case worse than others in terms of number of hours I’m sleeping. It feels my brain is trained not to sleep even when I am relaxed are any of you experiencing this. Also are people feeling their health deterioting. I’ve lost my appetite my belly hurts I get hot flushes and twitches

      Hi MM,
      Sorry to hear what’s happening but glad you’re here. You know, so many of the thoughts you identify here are common and you’ll see that even if we think something unusual is happening, something unique, even with experiencing lots of discomfort… this doesn’t stand in the way of learning and leaving the struggle!
      I think if you just study the playlists This is Natto and the success stories one, things will be more and more clear.

      You know, firstly nothing here is medical advice (!). This said to me it’s not important if we take a sleeping pill or not but how we think about it.
      It can help to know about delegation.
      Medications really work by delegation.
      The fundamental truth with sleep is that the more we try the less we sleep. When we take a sleeping pill and think “good, I don’t have to do anything about my sleep, it’s taken care of” then we are no longer trying to sleep. We delegated the task!
      It’s true that they are sedating, but sedation alone doesn’t make you sleep. Sometimes people take a bunch of sleep meds in desperation and sleep no more. Because if we still try to sleep, it doesn’t happen.
      Now, if someone takes a pill and thinks “this pill made me sleep” then there can be some trouble because they start believing that they need something to sleep. But if they understand that all sleep is natural, no problem!
      Another thing that can create some struggle is conflict.
      Many people are critical of themselves, especially when they take something but at the same time don’t want to take it.
      Think about how people approach their nightly vitamins. Are they convinced they are essential for well being… probably not. Do they think they are very potent and it’s a must not to skip at any point… not really.
      Now more importantly, does anyone feel guilty for taking some vitamins because they want to be well and healthy? Absolutely not! Does anyone criticize themselves for not being able to live well without taking vitamins? Not at all!
      So I think it helps to be kind and gentle to oneself and this helps much.
      So in summary, what we do isn’t so important, but rather how we think of it!!
