    I won’t be applying for any hunts in Colorado this year since I’m trying to do a Wyoming combination hunt for rifle mule deer 🦌 and pronghorn but I sadly will have to eat another $90 license 🪪 to buy preference points for elk, mule deer 🦌 and pronghorn of which I currently have 4 elk, 4 deer and 2 pronghorn points respectively. Thanks for sharing these quick hitter videos as a great reminder there Trail.

    Excellent video, Trail. Just one comment. The fall turkey tag is a qualifying tag for Secondary Draw, not the Primary Draw.

    I can’t wait to leave this state, I’ve never hunted less than when I moved to Colorado.

      @@davidjewell3932 well most cow tags moved to A list. So the years of being able to archery and rifle hunt are long over. I work Monday thru Friday so during archery I’m lucky if I get 4 days to hunt, the 4 rifle season lengths are a joke. 4 days for one of the seasons??? Lol. I’ll happily take my butt back to Michigan, shoot 4 deer a year with ease and have meat all year. Drawing ONE mule deer tag every 5 years is a joke. Also, I live right in gunnison where they plan to release wolves this summer/fall. This valley is a bowl and the wolves are going to absolutely slaughter the animals here. Living in state but needing to drive 5 hours to hunt is a joke. They need to prioritize locals and let them hunt where they live.

      We have OTC archery elk and pronghorn tags. That's like two months of hunting right there.
      Drawing a rifle or archery mule deer tag shouldn't take more than 2 years in a lot of units. Many are 100% chance at zero points.
      Coyotes are legal year round, any method of take. Also really fun.
      Turkey hunting is also OTC and the draw for it isn't very popular so you have better chances than the big game draw.
      Water fowl has a long season as well and you can likely shoot geese here blindfolded. There are so many, it's actually unbelievable. You just need to buy a water fowl license and a habitat stamp, some $60 ish.
      You can essentially hunt something year round in Colorado. The fishing is also good here. Waterfowl until turkey season. Coyotes in areas that you want to hunt pronghorn to double as scouting time until then. After pronghorn season, it's elk season. Then the rifle seasons that you'd have drawn for in the primary or secondary draw. If not there's OTC options for the winter as well as it's waterfowl season by then or close to.
      It's your fault that you don't hunt much in our state.

    Can you skip a year in Colorado with buying preference points?

    • @GOHUNT
      @GOHUNT  Рік тому

      You can skip a year in Colorado. If you fail to apply for a species or have not purchased a license for 10 consecutive years, then all accumulated preference points for that species will be purged.

    Are non residents eligible to purchase over the counter elk permits too or just residents?

  • @recordingstudiotech

    Are Colorado OTC elk tags still limited per unit for nonresidents?

    • @jamesd5014
      @jamesd5014 Рік тому

      I'm not aware of any limits on OTC elk tags. That's one of the pluses (and minuses) of Colorado.

    Can you buy a preference point in Colorado like Wyoming?

    • @thejourneyman8890
      @thejourneyman8890 Рік тому +1

      Yes. But just draw for the units you want to hunt anyway. You get a point if you don't draw it. You may get it earlier than you think and not add to point creep unnecessarily.

    • @trailkreitzer9163
      @trailkreitzer9163 Рік тому

      You can but you still have to buy the qualifying small game license and apply during the same timeframe as the primary draw. You can apply for preference point only with the point code for each species. You could also apply for a hunt as a first choice that has required more points than you have and since you would be unsuccessful in the draw you would get a point. For nonresidents there is no random portion of the draw for deer elk and antelope, so if you know you do not plan to hunt colorado apply using the point only code as your first choice

    Does the hunter safety course have to be specific to Colorado?

    • @thejourneyman8890
      @thejourneyman8890 Рік тому

      No. There are tabs when you apply for tags that ask for your hunter safety ID number and the state you got it in. If you draw the tag, it'll also be printed on your tag, eliminating the need to carry around the actual hunter safety ID card.
