@yueviathan It is not as black and white as you claim, if these people were not incarcerated they would have to work at home to wash their clothes, feed themselves and maintain their living premises, why should they not be required to do the same in jail? Should they just be allowed to sit around on their ass on the taxpayer’s dime?
Similarly, most people have a job and earn a wage to support themselves in society. Anyone in jail should be required to do these same, they should work and be compensated for that work. The wage they receive can then be used to buy special items they are allowed to purchase from the commissary and to set them up with start up cash when they are released.

As someone who was a teenage boy at one point and who works in the tech sphere now, I don't see any law being made that will solve the problem of kids getting access to adult content. My family had content blockers on the family PC when I was younger but all that did was push me to find the more dangerous sites and when I was finally caught looking at stuff, my dad finally had the talk with me about what I saw. You could even liken it back to when the older generation would find, steal, or be given dirty magazines. It's important that the parents have an honest talk with their kids about 1) the dangers of the internet and 2) adult content before they stumble into it.
On the VPN side, absolutely they hope for stuff like restrictive laws to happen because it creates a market for their product. No rational adult is going to plug a webcam in to get verified before they start watching anything on an adult site, that's a major privacy concern.
All restrictive laws like this are going to do is create a market for VPNs, punish those of us who are actually allowed to watch adult content, and push kids to more dangerous corners of the Internet.

Yup. It's pointless virtue-signaling. It doesn't protect the kids, just punishes adults for seeking out their pleasures in a responsible format. The problems they wanna solve can't be fixed with a little piece of paper. It's gonna take years- maybe even decades -to reach the social consensus needed to root out truly harmful content (meaning not all of the erotic content, just the stuff that promotes criminal or potentially deadly acts), so until then, parents will just have to be parents.

Past Gameplay Animator here! Agreed on the sentiment of just showing kindness and patience while you’re waiting for a game to be released. Teams put so much time, effort, and care into what they make. We would prefer a game taking longer to make if it means we’re not crunching to make it. So showing support for the production team is also showing support (sometimes) for better work environments!
Now that I run a studio I’m focused on fair production schedules, which can be hard sometimes because there’s an expectation now for content to be delivered faster and better. So seeing companies delay games actually makes me quite happy, assuming their management is doing it for the right reasons.

We put all our time and energy into something and we gather together to watch the official launch and watch the numbers together and celebrate, and that community event is stolen from us every time a leak happens. For us, it's not getting to play the game we made that drives us, by the time it releases, we've played it dozens and dozens of times already, we live for that public release and the excitement of the public, it drives us. We live for the public response and excitement for our work.

When I was homeless the shelter coordinator told me if I didn't participate in a work activity of 20 hrs a week or attend their continued education courses then I wouldn't be eligible to stay there anymore.
I was trying to maintain a fulltime job to get back on my feet and often came back after their night time hours with varied degrees of chuff from staff (despite clearance from admin)
This was after I had taken their mandatory 'intro' class that lasts 4 weeks, "graduated", and the 'continued education' was literally 90% christian bible study.
Not to mention their entire transphobic staff, forced participation of christian events, high barriers for entry..no wonder people still prefer risking a federal charge for 'camping' outside.

What with prison generally leading to recidivism, and understanding that crime is generally a reaction to income inequality, there are far better ways to aid and teach those who commit non violent crimes. Some sort of education and community based service and direct compensation to those affected may help those involved develop a sense of community and help improve the lives for those who feel criminal acts are their only outlet. It’s just one extra tool that can be used, in tandem with incarceration. Regardless, people in America are over criminalized, and a grand majority are in prison for drug related offenses, which really shouldn’t be a reason to be in jail to begin with. All these cancers and diseases created by errors in our DNA through no fault of our own most of the time is a special type of hell I wouldn't wish on any one. No kid at the age of 6 should be thinking of the limits of their own mortality and no parent should fear loosing their child to an illness thats slowly destroying their body. There may not be that much public therapeutic use of it yet, but it won't be long before it will be more common. Our pathway from research to trials to widespread use of any sort of therapy is a long process, and we're just now hitting the point where research utilizing CRISPR-Cas9 is going into trials. However, in a few years, medicine will likely be revolutionized by both CRISPR-Cas9 and the multitude of other similar therapies that are being developed.

On the last story as a researcher who has used CRISPR in the lab the risk of "off target" edits is really high. We really need to have the full genome of the individual. I think the biggest barrier to making this sort of therapy useful is the price to do whole genome sequencing (WGS). Ideally you would do it twice once before to make sure your guide sequences don't have any other near hits, then after to make sure only what you intended to edit was changed. Right now that is ~6,000 USD + the time and expertise to actually do the assembly. That price needs to go down, and it is, 20 years ago it would have been ~7,000,000,000 USD

Daily walks with my dog in my yard (1-2 miles a day) on rough terrain caused leaks at the seem. I didn't want to bother with RMI at first and just accepted this was a bad purchase.
Eventually I did try to get a refund or replacement. I was too late on the one year warranty for one and near the deadline for the other. I finally decided to at least try getting back something for the wasted purchase, but they instead emailed me back that I needed to prove and show them where the leak was with some silly paper towel experiment. I gave up on them and just ate the $200+ in wasted money for two pairs of shoes that are very much not waterproof. Something that I really need in the PNW. Both in the same spots funnily enough. Not recommended for anyone that walks on ground that isn't completely level.
