      I was able to use the generic 0 gauge to 4 gauge reducer. You just need to manipulate the plastic around the inputs to slip the reducer in.

      I get that it would be easier to run larger power cable the whole way from the battery to the amp without a reducer but one thing to remember is the reducer is not the only bottle neck. In most amps the traces on the board, filters and fuses if used, MOSFET legs, and the toroidal transformer all use much less copper and handle the current just fine. If you have an amp with repeatable results(back to back runs close to the same power), I'd like to see a video testing different wire sizes and/or reducers and fuses for both power losses and heat generated in the cables.
      Also, I believe the super low capacitance in both the power supply and high voltage rails in this amp is what yields poor test results in the Dynamic Burst test. The low capacitance can only hold a few milliseconds of power at 3000 watts and a for a 40Hz burst you would ideally want enough capacitance to push full wattage for at least 25 milliseconds.

      Yeah, it made me keep looking. No way I wanna listen to fans peeking in and and drowning a couple dB of my treble. That's not necessary. And when he said the amp itself was not able to keep up with fast music? I thought amps weren't supposed to color the sound or do anything except provide power so if it doesn't provide power in a manner that keeps up with fast music, that's a deal breaker for me for sure because I'm very genre diverse.

    Taramps gained alot of respect for me when they showcased how their amps were made. Almost All parts made in house which was cool to see their process. I would buy from them but I think they do need to listen to some suggestions like you said with adding 1/0 gave inputs knowing thats what most people run in their car. A little displeased with the fan noise...hopefully they can solve that issue and the upper bass notes not being totaly there..But overall not bad.

    The "Bass" version I belive is a half bridge output while the HD version is most definitely a full bridge amplifier. Look at the difference between the transfomrers of the two. The HD only had 2 wires from the transformer while the Bass version has 3 of them (it's a center tap secondary on the transformer since it is a halfbridge amp). Also the caps in the bass version were half the voltage (HD : 2200uf @ 200 vdc while the Bass version has 2 2200 uf caps @ only 100 vdc each)

I have the MD8000 and it clearly states that 1 ohm is the minimum impedance. (Same with my Bass 30K and the Bass 8K) I just get frustrated hearing everyone bash Taramps when they burn them up by not following the manufacturers recommendations. My suggestion to others is if you want more power don't wire down, just buy the next bigger amp. They are cheap enough! Headroom is where it's at.

    As a dealer I am glad that we finally have a product that doesnt end up on Amazon. I sell the product at MAP. Which is $399.00 . Most of the other products on Amazon are sold for less than my dealer cost . I get numerous people asking if I can match Amazon like no I can. And I cant even buy it for what they sell it shipped from Brazil. So keep in mind about the only dealers can sell, it helps us small business guys that cant afford 200k purchases from the factory. Another awesome review. Thanks Big wiz. I'd be curious to find out the technical reasons behind why the dynamic tests results were so low. I would be interested to hear how it does on transients as well since you mentioned it not offering great woofer control, especially on punchier notes.

    • @wal
      @wal  5 років тому +1

      I don't think the two are directly related but I could be wrong. The woofer control is a bit odd, but I have experienced this with other Brazilian style class D amps in the past. It will be interesting to give it a week in my daily driver to see if it's noticeable in the real world.

      You can hear it's sloppiness over a home stereo when it's trying to keep up with the track. It's muddying up the sound. Whatever built-in low pass they are using, is probably partly at fault. It's littered with cheap components too.

The distance the 4 gauge is going won't cause loss it would be the same amount of loss that a fuse connection has. The other thing is if you look at the guts of the amp the power that comes from the outside is tremendously larger then what enters the amp enters the amp bored at the hand off between the outside power wire and the inside wire they transition over to a very small gauge at the board. 6:12 the efficiency is better because the toroïdal is not providing voltage for powering 2 ohms. Lower is the voltage output, better will be the efficiency. Thoroïdal transformer can provide here a middle range voltage for 2 ohms version, and lower voltage for 1 ohm version. For to have the same power on higher impedance, the thoroïdal need to work with more secondary turns, and provide more voltage, against more resistive secondary turns and load, and it flows from it a effeciency loss. By the way, when the secondary coil is significant, the magnetic coupling between both are less perfect due to the resistive effect of the wire at high frequency switching. This ability to overcome the higher impedance needs more energy (and you pay it with loss), and you will find it by the loss of efficiency. For to talk roughly, more higher is the power on a higher resistive load, more higher is the loss. We can quote too than efficiency can decrease if the thoroidal size is lower, for the same power.

    That's a nice video. But except talking only about power, I really wonder what is the difference betwin Soundigital 3K and a Taramps 3K...? Are they able to replace a class AB amplifier? At this level of power it is impossible? What about noise ratio?

    I, like many others I’m sure am absolutely baffled by the lack of 1/0 gauge inputs on this amp. It’s not like it’s some marvel of engineering to put the proper size inputs on an amp producing this much power. I’m really at a loss on this. Anyone else too?

    QUESTION: I have a Taramps Bass 8K 1-ohm which I want to try using daily at 1/2 ohm so that I won't need to buy a bigger amp >> T. Bass 15K. Do you think the 8K @ 0.5 ohm would give me 12K to 15K? Thanks.

    Why not throw a couple 16 volts in parallel with your bank as well to keep the voltage up around 14.5-15 volts during heavy tests? And just charge them separately while not in use. Maybe have a heavy duty switch/breaker between the main bank and the 16s so you don’t have to unstrap them every time you need to charge or when their not needed for a test.

    Great video man. Crazy that they use 4 gauge. This makes it obvious that they're not listening to their engineers at all. I would never buy anything from a company like this. You know the engineers told them they shouldn't do this. Now you've got to think. What else are they choosing to ignore from them? Could be safety related, could be about reliability, or who knows. Either way. It makes me too nervous to buy their product.

Curious to see what some of the micro 4 channel amplifiers from companies like diamond audio, arc audio, ct sounds, cerwin Vega, zapco, and the list goes on.... So I’ve noticed that on full bridge amps, the dampening factor is much lower than of a half bridge amp. I was told the a good class A/B amps have the highest dampening factor, but a lower efficiency. I’m not 100 % on these statements but would be cool to discuss them.

    I think someone forgot to Q&A that AMP. Even with the smaller blocks for power, the fit and finish is horrible? It even looks like the barrels inside the power inputs are of some very low grade materials. Take a look and see if it is just me or not, but it looks like they could break off and slide out? Is it me?

    Hey Big D, I'm sure you get many requests but if you wouldn't mind testing a Hifonics ZXX series amp I'd love too see a video on it. I bought a BRX 3016.1 based off of your review of it and am now looking at something for a bunch of 6.5 coaxials I'd like to install. Their 2k ZXX was about 120 on Amazon which is a lot of power for the price. I'm wondering if it would still be real because hifonics seems to be a good brand, but that is almost too good to be true. Even hearing your thoughts would be and honor, or if anyone else reading this has an opinion I'd appreciate a response.

    They're only "rated" for 130A of draw on music. So as usual, Brazil is counting on impedance rise to counter their design compromises. Also, I wonder if maybe you had your clamp too close to the amp and that's why you got inconsistent current measurements.

  • @303nitzubishi4
    @303nitzubishi4 5 років тому

    BigD! I think we all agree and understand the need for larger input terminals but I have to ask where you are measuring the voltage at? Is it measured through the probes stabbed into the side of the 1/0 wire? The voltage at that point should be greater than the voltage after the bottleneck of the 1/0 to 4 adapters. Methinks you may have a battery or two with some weak cells that are failing under load?? Just a theory. Doesn't make any difference to me I have not approved of these amps since the beginning and I probably never will. Sorry Brazil :(
