    Review of the Spinnaker Fluess SP-5055-01 Automatic dive watch featuring a Seiko NH35 movement, Sapphire Crystal and a water resistant leather strap. In this review I test the strap to see how it holds up to water. Is this the perfect every day watch?

    Absolutely love mine. Blancpain is my dream watch, so this is almost free in comparison. Not using the provided strap but bought about four others. Goes with almost anything. Love the lume too, especially the bezel

      How's it holding up? I love the look and need a daily dive watch. I'm not crazy about the strap, looks a bit stiff but ik it will loosen up after some wear, but as you said you can switch straps easily. I think on a metal band this baby would be a 9/10

      @@trevorgray4852 Wore for several days last week. Using the original strap at the moment. I can't really comment on the watches robustness but I always love putting it back on. A metal strap would be perfect but the provided one I have warmed to. A metal strap would be perfect though. A classy watch for sure. No regrets here. Quite the opposite

    This is a very attractive, well proportioned watch with nice specifications. It wears well on the brown leather strap. I agree with your assessment that the Fleuss makes for great daily wear watch. The 150 meter water resistance wouldn’t bother me, as I’m not a diver, yet its more than adequate for swimming and recreational use, which is all i require. Overall, I agree with all the comments you make in your video as to why the Fleuss makes for a nice daily wear watch. $285 with a discount code is a very attractive price point for this watch. Thanks for the nice video!

    I just found your channel a few months ago and just see you pop up every once in a while when searching for a watch, I am just in my early 20s and can't afford those high end watches of other channels, your channel certainly helps people like me who are on a very small budget for this hobby. Keep it up! I have a timex fairfield which is the watch that led me to your channel, and so far it is my favorite watch. Keep it up!

    I am thinking about buying the Fleuss OXBLOOD RED SP-5055-07. I love that you can see the movement. The only thing that makes me hesitate is the acrylic bezel because I fear I will have many scratches on it soon.

    • @JusttheWatch
      @JusttheWatch  11 місяців тому +1

      I'm pretty sure the newest versions switched from an acrylic crystal to either sapphire or mineral, might be worth checking the specs on whichever one you're buying to see what kind of bezel it has.

  • @oktc68
    @oktc68 3 роки тому +5

    I like it because it's basically a homage to the Fifty Fathoms although the size is a little off the original, however you're better off with a Steeldive SD1952T which is the Barracuda rather than this style. It's also slightly smaller at 41mm and has a domed sapphire crystal and dumps the plastic bezel for a ceramic one. If you prefer this style they have that too although with a flat sapphire crystal. Another one to consider would be the Invicta 31290 which is a homage to the 1953 Rolex Submariner 6204 all these alternatives are powered by Seiko's excellent NH35A automatic movement that's in the great looking Spinnaker. Wow isn't it great to have all these affordable choices? What a brilliant time to be a watch guy/gal or non binary. You lucky lucky people! Great video thanks

    Hi ! I pulled the trigger for a Spinnaker Fleuss Lumber black some times ago. I'm very pleased by this watch !
    Comfortable at the wrist, great looking, pretty accurate (only -4s a day !).
    The AR coating is "not too bad" (Sorry, i'm used with the Breit.... 's AR coating).
    Just two point i would like Spinnaker to improve : their AR coating and the lume used on their hands and dial
    If they do that, i think many of their models like this Fleuss could became REALLY GOOD
    Thanks a lot for you test and videos !

      How's it holding up now? This baby is a looker. I would get a metal band just cuz that's my preference especially for a dive watch(I'm not a diver) would be a 9/10 on a metal band and im a tough judge/picky

    I got a Spinnaker during a run in with a Watch Club of the Month. I got the Spinnaker as my second watch and out of 8 months this was the only watch that was not a DUD. Because I felt burned by the Watch Club I wore it but did not like it. It took a lot of hate abuse. The crystal was VERY durable. It was also a Quartz and I was entering my Auto-Mech snob phase. So I wore it for two years daily. I thought the watch was a $40 watch but it turns out they actually do sell for the $200-$280 range (just Google'ed all over the place) so the price is not an inflated Invicta MSRP type situation. Maybe I should not have hated on it for coming from a Watch Club.

    I'm late for this one Dave. I've got the kind of French Navy colourway with leather strap arriving from Amazon tomorrow at 149GBP. At that price I thought that I better had because I won't see it at a better price. That's at least 50% of what we would pay in the UK. I hadn't heard of the brand until I saw it on one of your other reviews. Great review. Stunning scenery and I don't think that I will be disappointed with the watch either. Thank you. ✌🏽🙏🇯🇵🇬🇧

  • @InGratitudeIam

    Water resistance ratings are really misunderstood. In SCUBA diving, you want to use equipment that is rated to twice the working pressure. That means, for recreational diving, 100 meters is far beyond adequate. Sunlight disappears at approximately 30 meters. Most recreational dives are between 40 to 80 feet. The deepest I ever went was on a wreck dive at 148 feet. So, a watch that is rated for 100 meters (approximately 330 feet) will have no problem at 150 feet and certainly won't even notice 80 or 90 feet, let alone 40 to 60 feet. People who insist on 200 meters or more, unless they are commercial divers, really don't know what they're talking about.

      This is a great analysis, thanks!

      Sunlight disappears at 30 meters? I think you mean that certain parts of the color spectrum may be diminished. I am no diver but I am pretty sure that there is still sunlight at 30 meters. My uncle was a certified dive instructor and I remember him telling a story about him cutting his hand and the blood looking like a green gel. Could that be what you mean. I am not trying to be condescending, I really would like to know.

  • @MikeAustin2012

    I love that you reviewed this in direct sunlight! I have seen photos and reviews before but never saw that face this way. Like a black sand beach form 5 or 10 floors up? Nice sparkle yet black and easy to read. I would rather the resin bezel ring over aluminum if I can't have ceramic. That combined with the off white or yellowish white gives this piece an antique vibe. The little bit of stainless bordering the bezel ring adds to it like pin stripes on a great sports car paint job. Having spend some time around horsed and baseball gloves, I would use saddle soap or mink oil on that strap to add water proofing and adding life span. Good review for a good watch! Thanks.

    FYI I discovered your channel about 3 weeks ago cause I was looking for why companies list their watches as 30m WR but then say it's only splash proof and advise not to go down to the depth rating. Yours was the only video I found (at the time) and it was good so after watching more videos I subscribed. You should try to do more original content that would bring more viewers in but also the usual mainstream stuff cause that's what ppl want to see. The Hyakuichi hyaku1-003 is a watch that has no reviews and I would've liked to have see one before ordering it last week, you might want to consider doing one as you'd be the only source of information, thanks.

    I would think that subjecting the leather strap to sea water (salt) and/or pool water (bleach) would speed up the damage to the strap unless you soaked the strap in clean (distilled, maybe?) water for a long time to leach out those chemicals.

    So companies use "Waterproof Leather Straps", which are leather straps designed for wearing in water. You test the leather strap in water and the waterproof leather strap passes your test as its should as its a waterproof leather strap. So the first thing you you tell the audience to do following your successful test, is to change it out for a rubber strap. Eh???????

    • @JusttheWatch
      @JusttheWatch  5 років тому +2

      Because oddly enough useless and undesirable don't seem to be the same thing all the time...

    • @JusttheWatch
      @JusttheWatch  5 років тому +2

      It's primarily an emotional choice. Despite quartz being objectively "better" in almost every way, a mechanical watch, with its complex internal mechanisms just feels cool. In addition to that most of the time if a brand is offering a mechanical movement in a watch, chances are they are also using higher quality components in the other parts of the watch as well. And some companies, like Spinnaker, don't even offer a quartz option in many of their watches.
