Thanks for posting! Both my brothers were sailors aboard cargo ships long before the internet and computers. They said life at sea could be very lonely and that as engine room crew, they had little to no contact with the officers who were supposed to stay to themselves. The favorite crew member? Always the cook ;) Amazingly, a raft of Vietnamese refugees was discovered at sea, many already dead. Brought aboard, the crew shared some clothing to cover them and brought them to their next port, Canada. Decades later, in Regina, Saskatchewan, my brother ran into a Vietnamese man who recounted being rescued by a Norwegian freighter and brought to Canada. Although they didn't remember each other, they recalled all the events of that night out in the vast Ocean. Talk about Karma! Anyway, great videos, I always enjoy them! Cheers, Doc
OOCL is a Hong Kong shipping company. Hong Kong used to be the busiest harbor city at one point. Based on his youtube name. I assume he lives and got his job in Hong Kong.
Jeff, thank you so much for all your videos, they are very helpful when preparing for lessons with seafarers- English learners. We enjoy your sense of humor!
I've always been facinated by huge boats and the life at sea. I stumbled on this video and like the blogger. He's concise, direct and easy to follow. Great editing
in reallity it doesn't rock . it's a very big responsability and whatJeffHK doesn' t say's it's that it takes a couple of years to become an officer . I'm a second mate ....myadvise is " if you like to go to cinema, drinck coffe in a coffe shop , watch some sport on TV , or just hang out with your friends ....don't become a sailor ....it's a very lonely life . Also that is a big container ship ...the smallers ones ...life is very hard on them , 3 port per day ....it means 6 manouvering per day , 1 hour per every manouvering at least ......you get very very tired ...belive me i know this
Just found your vlog Jeff. Thanks for sharing. I sailed on some enormous ships too over 30 years ago including a super RoRo out of shipyard in Pusan. Great life as a young man. Sure you have it all mapped out. Great video editing.
Jeff, I've been watching a ton your posts today truly amazing work. Thanks for showing me the world from the Bow of a ship. I fly a lot to Asia for work commissioning Chemical reactors, so like you I am gone from home a lot. Great videos thanks for posting always wondered what it was like on these container ships, they are just massive. And being a guy i love anything that's made of metal and full of rotating equipment!!!!
I have my meteorology exam tomorrow, but your videos I stumbled on are so awesome! Please keep on posting man, thank you for the good content! I wish you calm seas. :)
what an informative youtube contribution, professional and entertaining. on a personal note: my first time seeing such a timelapse of the night sky and clouds, The ship is very clean and majestic also , CHEERS !
Holy crap, I actually started experiencing motion sickness about a minute before the end of the video, and had to stop. Obviously, I'm not cut out for life at sea if I can't even handle an 8-minute video, let alone weeks, nay, months of the real deal... Aside from almost blowing chunks all over my laptop near the end, I rather enjoyed the tour! Very interesting stuff. Thanks for sharing this, and I'll definitely be checking out your other content... right after I stock up on Dramamine.
Very cool video. It's neat seeing the inside of those ships. I actually work for a tow boat company that operates from the monongahela river in Pennsylvania to the end of the Ohio river where it meets the Mississippi River. The boat I work on is about 70 feet by 26 and is three decks high. We operate a two crew system ( 1 pilot and 2 deckhands per watch) and the watches operate 6 hours on 6 off. Our boat mainly runs from Pittsburgh pa to the Ohio Pennsylvania border. We push barges that are 200ft by 35ft in a tow any where from one barge to 15 barges ( which is set up 5 long 3 wide).
I grew up in the sf bay area watching the huge container ships in the port of Oakland. I wanted to work on one. Still do. I'm sure it's hard work, but I'd love to live at sea some day
your videos are best learning stuff for how to do amazing editing and switching between the scenes apart from the amazing content that you are producing. Your cinematography is like a boss. Great fan of Your work. Love from Pakistan
very well done Jeff. It's nice to see the vessel tour beyond my desk :) By the way I work for the one of the biggest shipping companies, but I am on board very rarely, so your production has brought me some new experience :)

I've always wanted to know what it's like on a big cargo ship. Thank you for making this video!
This looks a lot better than my job. I would do this if I was young again.

Awesome vid, I was so ignorant as to what a cargo ship actually looks like on the inside
They may be very industrial but these ships look absolutely amazing to live on... Asthetics aside lol. They seem ridiculously roomy.
When I was a kid I always wanted to be a sailor, great channel 👍🏻
I've been in this ship with my husband. For 3 weeks sailing...most of the time spent time in the recreation room😀🎤🎵...our room is on the F level...💕
Linda get back to work
Soy de Chile y me encantan estos videos mucha dedicacion felicitaciones... muy buenos....
Aviation is fun but ships are graceful.
Oriental Overseas... that sounds so much like one of those age-old lines from the steam or even sail age. Yet founded in 1969. :)
