**Update** Since I made this video, I exchanged emails with the rep who reached out via email and he helped expedite my return process. I have dropped the camera off at FedEx for return. I noticed they DO sell a dive case on their website, but I also noticed they have replacement sd card doors for sale as well, which makes me think they are aware of this flaw. Hopefully they can rectify this issue with future versions of this camera. I had high hopes and would definitely give the next generation a try. Please keep in mind that this camera is probably suitable for 90% of users, just not for someone like me who wants something durable and waterproof without a case.

I ordered the dive case with mine, this will make a great dive camera, the case was out the same time as the camera. i wouldn't take a GoPro or DJI diving without a dive case either, I dive 100 ft, there's no camera that has that kind of depth proofing, the DJI O4 is the closest at 19 meters I think.
Yeah. Very surprised to see they recommended the case for cliff jumping and even surfing though
@@JesseStLouis I'm going to be dead honest with you lol I always use a dive case even with my DJI and GoPros when ever I see there's a possibility of damaging my camera or scratching it lol My OCD kicks in and case goes on, probably why all of my cameras are scratch free and I have yet to break any lens guards lol for the price of those cases which you can likely find much cheaper aftermarket, it's worth the headache and protecting your expensive toy. But that's just me ;)
I own two of them and I love the versatility of the ace pro. I use it as an action cam, dash cam and vlog cam all in one. Both cameras work great as advertised, and software is easy to understand for editing

I totally agree with you. I also almost got trapped into the marketing machinery called Insta360 as well. I bought the Action 4 a few days before the launch of the Ace pro and was so intrigued in ordering it as well. I STAYED STRONG THOUGH. I told myself that I would never use the flip screen as I film myself running up and down mountains. And the fatal flaw for me was the missing exchangable lens cover. That is an absolute no-go for me in action cams. I am so glad that I stayed with the Action 4 because it is so compact, durable and not bad in low light either - better than I ever experienced in action cams until now. And the small screen up front is way better than a flippy screen - invite me to brake off - as well. Hope you get your money back!!!
Absolutely right, the lens cover is extremely important for an action camera.

The x3 u need lens cover yes or yes and if it scratches u fuck. I put lens cover and lower quality and glad i did because i ended return it with no scratches and got my full refund
I experienced this when I removed the door, however, after some choice words, I was able to get the door reinstalled where it operates normally. I also agree not having a replaceable lens cover is a major flaw. GoPro realized it after their GP8 or 9 can’t remember. The underwater thing is a concern as I kayak and produce videos. My other concern is the click on base. You really have to make sure it’s on there solid. However, I do love the performance of the camera.
Thanks for your real-world unsponsored review! I own GoPro Hero 9 and Hero 12 and was (and still am) considering this Insta 360 Ace Pro, mainly for mountain biking videos in low light (and no, I can't use the phone :) I'm not going to be using it in wet environments so the SD card flaw doesn't bother me much. However, I'm wondering what you think about that magnetic mount - will that survive good mountain bike downhill sessions (assuming no crash)?
I am not a mountain biker so I'm probably not the best person to ask. I already returned my camera but other comments have said they make a mount with a lock, that would probably be best

I was considering to buy the Ace Pro but seeing this video and a few others (and the fact that people like Potato Jet aren't even talking about it) makes me sit this one out, at least.
Insta360 has been making some really interesting camera's, I own 3 of them (ONE R, X3 and Go III).
Some of these camera's though, look more like proof of concepts, or prototypes to me.
I was very dissapointed with the fact that my ONE R has stopped being a fully functioning camera after a mere 2 years!
The X3 I bought because I'm no longer able to use the ONE R as a 360 camera.
It looks like the Ace Pro won't survive long either...

Hey man! I’ve been having a huge problem with my ace pro- flickering. At 60Hz 4k 24 ss-literally anything I get this awful flicker in my video which totally takes away from my shots. Any suggestions why? Great video!

Awe Jesse, I’m now having that friggin problem with the door not going back on. I took it off to put the mic adaptor on then when I tried to put the door back on, it just won’t go back on. Like yourself spent hrs trying and still can’t fathom it out.
Did you finally find out how to do it.?

I've used GoPro Heros and recently the DJI Action 4 for snorkeling and swimming pools without a case endless times and never had an issue. I bought a dive case for the Hero but only used it once. These cameras promise waterproofing without a dive case down to 30+ feet depending on the model... swimming and snorkeling should be a no brainer without a dive case but no way you could trust this new Insta360 Ace Pro with that design of door.
@@canyonblue737-8I'm a rescue diver and dive master, i dive with 3 cameras, one on my bcd, on in my leg pocket and one i use exclusively for stills in a housing. I'm paranoid with electronics especially with cameras, a lot of money invested so yah, my OCD kicks in lol. Yes, flip screen not the best idea in rough conditions but doable, keep down and keep it locked, it's really a simple solution. If you're in salt water and you're using a dive housing, you're taking a huge risk, I've seen GoPros, DJI's, Insta360's, Sony's with corrosion on their metal parts because it wasn't rinsed properly after a nice day at the beach. And why I use a housing always. This camera is not for everyone but you can use it as an actioncam, you just have to be more cautious with that screen that's really all.

Well I've gotten a lot of comments that i should get the Dji action 4. I'm sick of Gopros shit, same old overheating and freezing up issues. Depends on what you're gonna be doing I guess. I picked up a Hero 11 for cheap right before I left on this trip and it's the same old fucking gopro drawbacks but at least it's durable. Finally got my money back from Insta360 so I'll probably try an Action 4.... You need to decide what your priorities are in terms of durability vs image quality I guess. Tons of direct side by side video quality comparisons on UA-cam for you to check out. 🤙
@@JesseStLouis thank you I'll be optimizing my footage for action only, so I'll give the Dji Action 4 a chance solely because Gopro in my opinion is outdated and overpriced.

welcome back to gopro. I felt the exact same when I found out about how it requires a slpash case.
I don't know why yours came that way. Mine did not come with this same issue. Even after 6 hours of snowboarding with a couple of falls and the door is still solid without any signs of issues. Just my experience so far.

Jesse you should give DJI action 4 a try , i have it now for 2 months put it thought some paces and i do like it , it just works , no fancy modes like star trails , but it just works .
I've been getting a lot of feedback saying that, so I think that is my plan as soon as I get my money back
Jessie, is it true that you cannot use this camera until you 'register' with the app and agree to sharing your data for direct advertising from Insta360? I read a few reviews online that state this is the case and why those users sent their cameras back.

You're right. It's a Vlogging Cam. But the DJI Pocket 3 does that better anyway, so what's the point of this Insta360 ? If they had provided a high impact waterproof case with it as standard , it might have been a different matter
everything you say can be done! you just need a little patience! This Lens cover can be made, it uses a little bit of glue and silicone, you can unscrew it and put a new one on, no problem, you can do it yourself! I had and still have many cameras and the quality has never broken the lens. I think that as long as you don't hit rocks with the camera, it will be ok.
Yes, I understand but it would be OK for most people but I do a lot of caving, canyoneering and coasteering which potentially involves getting slammed into wet rocks so there's the problem for my use case 👍
Bummer as it had just been recommended. It might still work for me since I have a Gopro that I use for underwater shots anyway, so I just need a vlogging camera and it sounds like it could be an upgrade from my DJI in terms of video quality. That underwater shot at the end was intense, some tight cracks there.
Yeah that underwater shot at the end was done with my Hero 9. I think for someone who is not in and out of water as much as me, it would be great.

No, I'm still shooting with the Action 1. I'm considering getting the 4, if there's some noticeable improvement in the video quality, particularly in low lighting. Otherwise the 1 still does a pretty darned good job and I have literally no issues with it. But someone had also recommended the Insta 360. I guess it will wait until I get back to the US and have the opportunity to research and compare.
For vlogging its really not good since it only has one screen..which makes it difficult to go back and forth between front and back without having to adjust the flip screen every time.
Oh man. You know how I feel about the One RS that I've struggled with since getting the camera. The support team really tries hard but being in Hong Kong makes them out of sync with North America. Strange that they send it out to big channels that give all sorts of positive reviews but never address any of these issues.
Rush a product to market without the real users, non technical guys, who want to turn it on and go without screwing around with configuration or setups or cases etc and then scramble.
I break everything I use, usually a product defect situation and it's getting expensive and tiresome dealing with warranty and support people. Delays or ruins my trip planning.. They are going with the just good enough approach and work on the presumption that enough people don't, won't or are to lazy to care or follow up with an issue...
Stress less, ride more, adventure more!

4:23 Yep, that's absurd, definitely just a flogging camera as you mentioned.
As a mountain biker I need replicable lens cover. proper doors, it has to handle getting impacted, me face planting rolling on the ground if I crash.
I do enduro, trail style mountain biking, not only light XC or pavement riding. So definitely not for me.
I had my suspicions after seeing how a ton of reviews were released in a very short period of time. Glad I waited, because I almost purchased one.
I’ve watched a bunch of reviews about this camera. This one has me perplexed. The guy admits he’s not a camera guy. That says it all.
The whole reason I'm here looking at action cam videos again is because I ran out of replacement lens covers for my action cam (sony fdr-x3000), and I've come to find out they're discontinued. Everyone thinks they don't need a new lens until they do lol.
The dji action 4 still seems like a better camera for the action sports.
I think when get my money back from Insta 360 I will probably get one of those

@@craigshandworld GoPro will give u more crisp video, but dji action is better in heat management and battery backup is more than go pro.
If u buy the adventure combo then it is less than goro with 2 extra batteries. Plus fixing am external mic with dji is not as expensive as gopro. Many have shifted to dji after getting fed-up with GoPro hang and overheating issues. Hero 12 is better than previous GoPros but stil dji has better heat management.
Do compare before buying.
@@ijs_diy unfortunately, I found out that only GoPro and the new Ace pro have that mode where you can shoot in full and then easily convert to wide or vertical footage in its editing software. Action 4 doesn't. For me I need that

YES...the camera wasn't designed well. First and foremost, the battery doesn't last long ..mine is lasting about 45 mins which is VERY disappointing. The other thing I overlooked is that it doesn't have dual screens...meaning that if you're vlogging and want to show the surrounding, you're not able to see what you're showing unless you flip the screen down...
Agree, HUGE problems!!! I bought three of these to replace my three DJI Action 4s. There is a similar problem with the battery door. TRY THIS: Push down on the "VERY TOP PORTION" of the battery door near the camera's top (NOT the lower part from which you should open the door). Watch the battery door pop open. Unbelievable!!!
Yeah it's all fun and games till you fry your brand new camera, then it doesn't matter how good the footage is
@@JesseStLouis Feel free to add this battery door issue to a future video. I even tried to address a couple of other issues (1. the new GPS Remote, and 2. warranties) with customer service and fell extremely short of having them fully addressed.

Have you never own a GoPro 5, 6, or 7? The door goes back on the same way. You push the inner part forward then it pops on easily.
This is not a GoPro and the door does not go back on the same way. You really don't think I tried that?

Liked because you just saved me $450. I have a trip planned next week and coming from the Go Pro 4, I haven't kept up with action cams for quite some time. I watched several reviews last night comparing the Action 4, GP 12, and Ace Pro. You discussed drawbacks that a lot of larger 100K+ sub channels may be "incentivized" to (not) talk about. Constructive feedback; I agreed with everything you said but felt there was some repetition which made the video longer than it could have been. Thank you again and have a great day.

Thanks for this. You saved me some bucks here. I have the GP Hero 11 action cam and was tempted to give the Ace Pro a shot due to the low light feature. I'm also not willing to shift to DJI at this time and prefer to stick with GP or Insta360 lines. I will await improvements to the Ace Pro before biting!

If you are vlogging, why buy an action camera? Funny enough I'm a middle age bald man looking for an action camera for mountain biking in gloomy forests. This helped me out. Cheers.

This thing splits files on long recordings......it breaks them at 29 minutes and 59 seconds.....automatic no from me but I had to find out the hard way. The auto ISO is also pretty poor in comparison to my DJI Osmo Action 3. Swing and a miss from Insta360 on the Ace Pro.
1) SD Card door is flimsy at best.
2) Splits long recordings above 30 minutes every 29 minutes and 59 seconds.
3) Gets extremely hot recording 4k 30FPS in standard bitrate mode.
4) Auto ISO is pretty poor and records "too dark".
5) Non removable lens cover.
6) You only get recordings above one hour long if you don't use their phone app. The battery will die in 60 minutes of continuous recording with the flippy screen on etc.
Some pluses
1) 8k if you want it
2) Flippy screen is cool if you vlog
3) Advances the action camera market to force GoPro and DJI to improve their products.
It is vlogging camera. I wouldn’t take it for mtb enduro. It is to risky. I will go with dji action 4 or insta x3 360.

I bought my daughter an Insta360 Go 2. She loved it. First day she had it, took it in the swimming pool - and it died. Supposed to be waterproof without a case, but apparently it was her fault, for not tightening the lens cover? No, to me if it's waterproof then it's waterproof, not "but you need to X or actually it's not waterproof, ha ha, gotcha! Buy another one?" Nope.
I own the insta360 x3 and the door is removable to connect audio adaptors and the external car reader. There is a specific way to clip the door back on and once you have figured it out, it is easy. It is NOT a design fault as you claim. Spares are available because they get lost when removed, not because of a design flaw.
Yes I tried putting the door back on the way it is supposed to go on. I know how it theoretically should go on but it didn't. Tried for quite awhile

1:53 "Its not going on properly", man just push the small part forward so the clamp is free to connect back to the rod. Its so damn easy to fix, how is this a fatal flaw?

the Action 4 also has the same problem. Same...the 2 doors opened while I was doing Wing Foil. Everyone knows, except you it seems, that doing sports in water risks contact and it is better to protect it with a case. You made another useless video like the previous one. I and many people have seriously compared them. You talk but you only talk nonsense. Clicks and a few likes this time?!

lol you should have seen my comments the day of. In a professional photographer by trade and I’ve been slamming their cameras since the x2.
The piss poor quality of both of these, the bad color science. (I don’t expect it to be as a good as my 1dx mark iii) but I do expect it to be better than the gopro and it’s just not.
Also, called it out as a vlogging camera. That floppy screen crap is in-needed for a true action camera.
The video delay in said back screen? Also sucks… 2 plus seconds I’m seeing…
My pocket 3 has its flaws but as a vlog camera crushes this!
What insta360 is good for us novelties. Software not cameras… and from other rumors apparently good at lying to us. There are some claiming Leica did not do much in this. They fed some info but didn’t provide the actual optics. Which would make sense since in low light you get a lot of haze and misty looks…
Disappointed my self… can’t wait to be disappointed again when the x4 comes out with 8k and some cheesy novelty software 😂

It helps if you know how to put the door back on. It is designed to come off. I'm guessing you accidentally pulled yours off.
To reinstall the door you have to extend the door all the way (it's two pieces) and snap it onto the hinge pin then close the door.
From your video it didn't look like there was anything wrong with your door except operator error.
Already know how to put it back on and it didn't go back on. Also already returned the camera and got my money back. But good luck with the camera.

See but you are making the assumption that I did not know how, and it is a bit condescending. I knew how and tried for 2 hours to reattach but it never reattached. Also, all I did was open it to charge it. There was no accidentally pulling off. It broke off, whether accidentally or manufacturing flaw. And despite knowing and applying proper technique to reattach, it did not. So please do not just assume user error. It is either a design flaw or manufacturing defect.
@@JesseStLouis you weren't even sure IF it was supposed to come off. You are correct that based on that it's easy for me to assume you didn't know how it went on. I've installed doors on other people's GoPros that were "broken" and wouldn't go on.
It doesn't matter to me if you did or didn't or if you keep or return the camera or if you like or dislike the camera.
I made the statement to help other people that are not familiar with the camera or the door in an effort to maybe help someone who did accidentally pull their door off. It is after all a bit tedious or tricky to get the door back on properly. Good luck with your trip.
@@onlymyopiniontechHi. I hate to say this but I couldn't put back mine either and I took it off intentionally for me to just make a routine check up for a brand new release. It will be replaced with a brand new unit wherein they opened it and took a video of the USB door being detached and then re-attached easily. The fact is--it shouldn't be that way especially when Insta360 provided had an instructional video on how to detach/attach that usb door.
My copy also had another flaw: MicroSD Card insertion. I have to do repeated attempts instead of just conveniently following standard procedure just for it to be secure.
Hence, perhaps, Jesse and I had manufacturing defects. It's just odd though that it had to be that USB door.
Hope this will shed light to the situation. And yes, I'll still be using a 360AP because it fits my needs capturing, travel, documentary, family and food. And yes, I always use a dive case whenever its subject to any kind of water.

This is like watching politicians run for election! Sometimes it entertaining. Place a click-bait title describing a monster and ends up being pointless. I guess they call people like this influencers for a reason. I agree that its peoples right to spend their money on what they want, but this is why general consumers end up making bad purchase decisions. I am sure you are aware that you have possibly influenced lots of people not to buy an outstanding camera, just because you broke your door! An issue that 90 per cent of users would never have. They all sell replacable doors!

@@JesseStLouis I use a GoPro 12 which is amazing in day light. iPhone 14pro max for low light videos which is amazing. I have insta flow gimbal for my iPhone which is actually really cool. I also have an insta 360 x3 which has amazing drone like shot but definitely not an action camera. I do more vlogging so I will probably order the pocket 3 for low light. I could just use my iPhone but people seem to get triggered when I film with my phone lol

Geez man, you ain't doing it right with the cover. I've been using it for a week and non a single time the cover pops out unless I want it to for the mic adaptor. It's easy to put it back. Saw your other video too. All are user problem. Just because you didn't know how to use it properly you are blaming it at the cam fault. I suggest you you learn how to use it properly first. Anyway, guess this AP cam is too complicated for some folks. GP12 or A4 might be a better fit. Good luck in your next cam purchase.
