- Black and white Brisbane taxi diver starts swearing and threatening stops the cab in the middle of a busy road still 20 minutes away to my destination demanding $100 cash when my trip will only cost about $20 when I tell him I’m paying by card he starts swearing at me I get out of the cab because his threatening behaviour and he gets out swearing don’t ever catch this crook of a taxi driver in Brisbane disgusting behaviour.

@@AjithKumar-uk1wq in Australia there is a law to demand for upfront fare if the rider seems to be dodgy as there’s been cases where people run off without paying taxi drivers. So in Taxi driver’s defence he didn’t do anything wrong until the rider denied to pay upfront cost.

Never been treated poorly by a Sikh Taxi Driver in Vancouver. Always super friendly and especially the older gentlemen. They even have given me a free ride when I was drunk and didn't have enough money. Hard working nice people.

The passenger is intoxicated probably after a night out. You can clearly make out from his voice. Hence the driver is asking the punter to pay first before giving him the ride in order to avoid the risk of not getting paid.

the taxi driver is right to ask for cash upfront, because people from certain areas tend to not pay once they reach their destination.
It’s actually illegal.
That’s a fail practice unless if they introduce certain rules and require based on experience. You can’t just pick and choose to ask money upfront.
The driver’s first line was polite and kind: “you pay for now” meaning there was a trip already made (for 7$!?) and he wanted the amount settled before going anywhere else. Then the passenger replied to the elderly driver: “I ain’t paying for any sh**”. This got the driver angry. Passenger, you are inconsiderate, arrogant and inhuman.

LOL. Do you know what $7 is worth in Australia? Not much! $7 is the flagfall on the meter. Taxi drivers in Australia are allowed to set their own fare/offer a fare to the passenger, in response to Uber's surge pricing where Uber can charge more at a particular time and the passenger is free to take it or leave it. The driver and passenger had agreed on a fare so the meter was not in use. Taxi drivers can use the meter or don't have to use it and that is protected by law. The industry changed after Uber entered the market. Here in Victoria the rules state that passengers can ask the driver to use the meter or can agree to a fixed fare.

Ok, I'm sick of it. Just got back & a person complained to me, again (silver s) about having to wait over 2yrs to bring nephews here. I'm a very tolerant person, but to hear this for 45mins strait is enough. @Real Gamer it’s probably one of those old school taxi services where you pay at the end, now we have uber etc so we pay ahead of time but in the past that wasn’t possible and many drivers got cheated and that was probably the cause here.

I'm a cabbie & get knocked all the time. He was perfectly within his rights to ask for the fare upfront.
The guys reaction SHOULD have been sympathetic to the man's plight & said - "Yeah, sure. How much is it?" Pay him & give him a drink on top!

Ok... The company I work for has a pricing engine, as do the majority of companies in the taxi game at the moment, so it's far from a case of just thinking up a number.
Outside of that I would have got an estimate as to how much the job would have been. I would have taken that money off of you and I would have run it on the meter and either given you change or requested the additional payment.
I don't know if you have any idea what it is like working as a taxi driver. I'm 6 ft, 16 stone and am out of the East End of London and know my way around looking after myself and potentially doing damage to people but I have been severely beaten up and had money stolen off me on many occasions by people not paying a fare, in fact, and this is no word of a lie, I was knocked for £ 11.70 this very morning!
The vast majority of the people around where I work are extremely nice, but unfortunately it is a universal fact that there are universally nasty people. All this guy was trying to do was protect himself potentially from that situation and doing that possibly from a background where he has suffered a lot of people not paying him & probably actual physical & verbal abuse.
Just be understanding & realistic of people's predicaments and situations.
